IS THIS A GOOD IDEA OR BAD ON THURSDAY/FRIDAY FOR GRAND CIRCUIT WEEK?

Awful. They cant possibly compete with even the worst thoroughbred tracks racing, (regardless of Grand Circuit or not), so the pools suffer at the simulcast locations and the live attendance doesnt add much to those pools anywhere. Its really ridiculous as those who still have jobs are likely shut out of the racing or certainly viewing the races. The handle for a cheap claiming race at Belmont will have 50x the amount The Red Mile will handle for a $100,000 race. With the minimal interest in harness racing , one would think that the powers that be would have the races run when they can get their biggest audience and least competition possible. However, everything they do is backwards and has been for many years. I believe the Saturday card is in the afternoon as well. I could be wrong. Last week it was at night. Handle has got to be better at that hour.

Its a very good question, and I cant possibly imagine what their reasoning is. Of course, the harness racing players who still are around have come to expect this kind of stupidity. Maybe they don't want to pay a higher electric bill for lighting up the place at night. And I'm being totally serious. The pools were awful yesterday in a Steaks filled card. And from what I saw at Freehold, nobody was paying any attention to Red Mile races on any monitors. Of course there were only about 75 or so people at the facility gambling.  Maybe.............

The problem with the matinee cards is that they rarely put them on any tv's in the OTB...

I also hate that they only have 10 minutes between races...what is the rush???

With most people betting a few tracks, I think 15 min between races would help handle...

Car dealership have a giant screen showing Red Mile ?
That could help sell a few more cars
Im guessing most of your customers never saw a harness race

Red Mile packed yesterday afternoon weather was ideal 80's and sunny.  Didn't make any wagers never checked any of the pools sure they were on the light side.  Sure majority of the people there were owners and some of the locals however wonder what today brought with the opening of Keenland.  The opening weekend at Keenland stake filled. The place will be packed nothing like it the first week of October.  College kids will help fill the place, girls walking around in skimpy dresses, and cocktail in hand.  Lets face it the comparisons between the two are night and day yes maybe night racing should be held during grand circuit week but like Mr. Dalrae said the sale is at night.
