Today marks closing day at AP, a great place for myself and friends to gather every other weekend and have a good time. But as big a supporter as I've been of AP, I'm really looking forward to seeing Hawthorne come in and taking center stage for the Illinois racing scene. Both tracks carry generally the same horsemen and jockey colony but it's the smaller things I'm looking forward to. The first 'Theruff!' from Peter Galassi, the underground paddock which no way rivals arlington's in the way of looks, but somehow I find cozy. The long stretch battles, the food, the crowd featuring considerably less beautiful women, yet many of these patrons I find just as captivating. The service, the dirt course, Jim Miller, the sound of Peter Galassi's panting over the mic a second before they spring the latch. Yep, it's about that time, away with the glitz and glamour for the summer and on to the grit and solid racing for the harsh months. Bring it on!!
