Claiming rule caught me by surprise

I heard in CA that a trainer can enter 50 claims on a horse as long as they are for "different" owners....That has to be one of the most bullshit rules ever.....Is it that way everywhere in T-Breds?......Im pretty sure it isnt like that here in DE/PA......No wonder they have all these 20 way shakes......Its 10 Sadlers 9 Mullins and 1 little guy

I am not familiar with the CA claiming rules but here in Illinois if multiple slips are dropped in different owners' names with the same trainer, a preliminary shake is done to determine who is in the actual shake for the horse.  So, in the end, every trainer only has one opportunity to get the horse.

Also, there would need to be funds on hand in every account in whose name they dropped to be eligible.

I just happened to see it the other day.....Ron Ellis (who was actually on the air at the time and not down at the shake) won a 4 way shake against 3 Sadler claims.....Ellis mentioned that one time Jeff Mullins had 11 claims in on one horse and lost like a 15 or so way shake for the horse......No wonder the same 5 trainers in California get all the claims
