"One of the things New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo accomplished with his takeover of the New York Racing Association was elimination of Belmont Park as a likely host of the 2013 Breeders’ Cup, according to several insiders tuned in to the selection process for the 30th annual year-end Thoroughbred racing championships.

NYRA last hosted the Breeders’ Cup at Belmont Park in 2005, and it was widely believed the event would return to the Long Island, N.Y., racetrack next year after such a lengthy hiatus. But that was before the upheaval created by a takeout scandal rocked NYRA’s management, leading to the dismissal of CEO Charles Hayward and the move by Cuomo to reconstruct NYRA’s board of directors with political appointees. That NYRA board reconstruction, which has yet to begin, leaves too many questions unanswered about the future of the racing association for the comfort of many Breeders’ Cup directors."

It's really a beautiful, excellent, and clean facility that MNR Gaming has invested a ton of money into since the W. Va. legislature gave them slots back in the 1990's to revive and reinvigorate horse racing.

Not.  thumbs down

I love watching TVG and seeing the two turn six furlong races from mountaineer. It's like the track is a circle.

You must be thinking of Charles Town. Really red dirt surface?

Mountaineer is a mile.

that would've been interesting if mountaineer would've hosted it. anyway, not a bad idea. but i dont think it wont happen. well at least we'll have a track outside of churchill or santa anita next year. kind of getting tired of santa anita and churchill hosting it now. i don't think monmouth isn't a great choice because of the weather that happened when it hosted in 2007. i would like to see it new at racetracks like del mar (if they widen the turf and go back to dirt), saratoga, keeneland (if they go back to regular dirt) and fair grounds. i'd more likely prefer it to be at the fair grounds.

Mountaineer is a dump. Your So Cal fair track at Pomona would be more appropriate.

Golden Gate is a palace compared to Mountaineer.
