I don't know about you, but if i had 30 million, i'm not sure i'd be getting up and going to work every morning. Does "Paulie" need the money? Did he blow most of his baseball earnings?

How much could TVG be paying him?

How much money would YOU need to sit home in your pajamas and just bet horses professionally with your bankroll? There's gotta be an amount, right?

"Earning 30 million" and "having 30 million" are two very different things.

After agent fees, accountants, lawyers, and taxes, he'd be lucky to "have" half of that money left.

And that's if he didn't spend any money along the way, which is ridiculous.

You must not be very old, hungry: money is great, but even the wealthiest people in the world feel a need to do something productive with their time.

So, lets say Paulie has 5 million in the bank. He's a racing expert, he can stick a few hundred thousand in his TVG account and probably make more money betting than he can in salary, no?

 Cheesy

Have you ever played full-time before? I have.

It's a grind, no matter how much money you have...even when you are winning.

Want to take a day off for 4th of July? Careful -- you might miss something. I just had a watch horse come back and win at Belmont that I would have missed if I decided to just chuck it and go to a barbecue today.

Playing the horses for a living with a big bankroll *sounds* easy. It ain't. Not at all.

Never said it was easy. But, Paulie is a 'racing expert' on tv, he gives out picks and recommended plays.....surely, those plays are plus ROI......he could be pajama boy betting from home is all i was saying.

Now, if you think Paulie isnt good enough to make a living betting, than its a different discussion.

Btw, i dont take days off and i dont miss too many things....so, i know what you're saying about the grind.

Paper tiger. Not biting.

Paul is a very good analyst, and he must be well thought of by the TVG brass, because he always seems to be present on "big days" like today.

You should start your own horse racing network so you can have "real" racing experts that have a "face for radio"  Cheesy and can't speak live, like Andy "Mouthful of Bumblebees" Beyer, and "Stutterin' Steve" Davidowitz.

Thanks, but the FCC would shut us right down. I'm too fugly.

You need to be pretty to be on TV. The running gag on Matt Carothers is that his horse racing expertise is "40% good hair".

Seriously -- one of TVG's best 'cappers is Bob Baedaker...and he's rarely on, because it's "No Play for Mister Gray".

He could sit still, but he might need someone to prop him up once in a while!

Many of us go to racetracks and bet horse everyday, if that was your hobby (and it might be Paul's) why wouldn't you want to work and get paid while you are betting, doing what you'd be doing everyday anyway?

Good points. But, wouldnt you be able to really concentrate on your betting, race watching and handicapping if you werent forced to talk about it on tv?

Depends.

Am I following one or two tracks, like I normally do...or am I trying the "hungry approach", and betting all of them?

 dunno

I agree it would be tough to concentrate, and you could miss things, however, if you stay with 2 main tracks for the day, for example Belmont and Monmouth I guess it can be done. I realize everyone is different but in my case I like playing a few tracks at once because if I concentrate on 1 track I "over-think" a race...I guess its the old college test expression of going with your instincts, and "think long think wrong"...JMO of course....

Hungry wouldn't need them because he himself is tons smarter than all these other guys. That's why he's constantly on here running them all down. Just look at all the selections he gives us after the fact - the boy is a friggin' genius.

It's just a crying shame no one will give hungry the lucky break these other guys got, because that's all it is, luck and maybe some nepotism.

As a hollywood park analyst he's excellent.  As a human he's a scumbag.   He made that on using steroids like many bad ballplayers who "suddenly" got good.  I know he had financial woes with money owed to ex wives for womanizing and he bought horses for millions and wasn't able to pay for them.  Mo money mo problems but this guys a cheat who gets the usual undeserving a** licking from todd schrupp, king of all a** lickers.

He isn't the first or last baseball player to use steroids.  I had a dodger scout personally give me his opinion on paul and how he scammed them and other teams.

Lame, Lamer, LAMEST.

All of us have given out horses here in the past, and no one has ever had a number moved because of it.

He lost all his money when he decided to parade around with that tramp and the wife divorced him. I guess the baseball community didn't come calling for a MLB job.

Lies, lies all lies.

If someone bets TWO BUCKS on a horse that's given out here, that could knock the price down 20 cents....AND, that's just 2 bucks, this isnt the stock market where you WANT people on your stock, it works the other way around.

But, you knew that already.

Way to go Andy! Another juicy in the last at Belmont today to key a big pick 4! Cmon HV, it's never too late to get on the
bandwagon. Being stubborn is one thing, but fat prices are another. Even you can put whatever personal feelings aside you
have towards him, to climb aboard the Serling Express!  Amazing!  bowing
