Im a stickler for jocks not riding to the wire....he would have had to move to another country if he lost in that fashion.

His 'blunder' is equivalent to what Jerome Bettis did in the game vs the Colts during their Super bowl run...he fumbled that ball and somehow, god stepped in and prevented him from having to go in witness protection...same for this guy.

Greatest race mare ever, without a doubt.

Did the jock say he misjudged the wire?

Looked to me like he thought he had it won, took another peek, and then, "OH SHIT!"

She normally wins pretty easy, and the jock usually wraps up on her almost as soon as she gets ahead. No one passes here.

It was interesting today, though!  Wink

Her trainer is hinting at retirement. Rumors of injury.

personel ensign at a mile and a quarter on dirt would have a little caviar for lunch. how can you say a turf sprinter is better than any other mare. shes the best turf sprinter ever. why no dirt races ? just grade 1 winning powder puff colts and geldings on turf.  Wink

Why did Personal Ensign never run any turf sprints, or for that matter any sprint, or any turf race? Hmmmmm? Why did Personal Ensign never rip off 22 wins undefeated if she was so good? Why did she run only one race against males? How come she won ONLY 8 G1 events?

In all of these other metrics, Black Caviar is the better mare.

black caviar raced once out of Australia. only once did she venture to another Continent to race. she never shipped over the Rockies, did she? to think that you can spend your entire career on one surface and people call you the best ever. and one more thing, black caviar never had to race with plates and screws or she would have never made it through the metal detectors.

She looked funky galloping back after a hard grinding win. (hard for what she's usually used to)

any Australian horse can never be considered one of the best ever

their grade 1s are not North American Grade 1s or European Group 1s -not even close

Goldikova has accomplished tons more--for starters and there have been plenty of top mares who have raced in Europe the last 25 years--not so many in North America--maybe Personal Ensign and Rachels 3yo season

getting back to the ride--if he gets the  horse beat--it would rank ahead of Frankie Dettoris butchering of Swain costing him the BC  and would have to move his family out of the continent

One more than Personal Ensign did.

Did Personal Ensign ever ship over even one single ocean, or the Alps, or possibly hostile A-rab territories? Wow the thought of that last must be nerve-wracking to a horse.

Yeah, to think. But at least she didn't hide out 99% of her career running against the girls.

yeah but the other 1% was pretty good too.
punch, terry and i are just having a little fun. there are some here that called another mare the greatest ever. terry comment was that she is the greatest ever was meant to get a rise. he is already on the record as saying goldie is the best ever. there was a big black mare a couple of years ago that was pretty good too.

Good god. She shipped half way around the world, ran on softer turf than she is accustomed to, the rider stops riding, and still beats the best sprinters in the world. She re-fired the split second he got back into her. Not the way you want to win, but imagine if she had lost with that ride.

that field was not the best sprinters in the world

horse like Excelebration and Frankel fit that bill and she would be underdog vs Frankel @ 7F or a mile(or longer of course)

how could she be considered the best mare of alltime if she isnt even the best horse the world right now?

thats like saying federer is the worlds best but when head to head vs rafa-he is 9 wins in 27 matches

Uh, I think that was Terry's way of getting an old discussion going.  He gets lonely up in the mountains and feels the need to have contact with humans.

Of course, those were cheap claimers she was facing. Frankel is not a sprinter and Black Caviar is not a middle distance horse.

Black Caviar is the highest rated filly/mare in the history of horse racing.
