Hey, if I lived in Chitown, you wouldn't catch me rooting for the Yankees.  That would be like a guy in Indiana rooting for the Packers... OOPS, sorry!  Cheesy

The peeps who are suffering are the fans, mostly... I think the price of a bottle of water at the Stadium is up to about $14,000.  $25 to park, an hour to get away from the place after the game unless you park ten blocks away and take obscure back roads through the south Bronx... just to see creaky old FREDDY GARCIA go five innings and give up 4 earned runs?  Naah... I'd rather see an indy league game out in Central Islip, or even an intrasquad hockey scrimmage in Syosset these days.

I always fantasize about New York: if I simply moved there, would I automatically have a much money as everyone else there?

I know about prices there...entertainment, dining out, endless bridge and tunnel tolls, etc. Oh, and rent.

I have NO idea how everyone pulls it off there. Either y'all are independently wealthy, or you are all Outfit.  Wink

Couldnt agree more, the cost of living is ridiculous, how people find the money is beyond me, maybe everyone is in debt up to their eyeballs and when the CC companies come knocking, they'll just file Chap 11.

In my neighborhood, it's traditionally been the 3 M's: market, mob, mom'ndad.  A few schmucks, yrs truly included, actually have to work for a living.

My wife, meanwhile, has decided that once our kids finish college, we should retire to... our beloved CAPE COD, in good old Taxachusetts.  Fire/frying pan.

What do you think the Yankees were doing all those years Steinbrenner was wildly overspending on roster.

Now, the Yankees are suffering? Good. Let THEM live with a little stench, for a change.

Stankees still have a 4 game lead in their div ... they will be okay. And they'll be even more okay when CC and Andy come back off the injury list. Just glad to catch them on this particular weekend. Their visit to Chitown in August will probably be a different story.

Informal bet:  we don't see Pettitte back this year.  Busted ankle on a 40-year-old pitcher?  Good luck on that one, Cash. Time to deal.

As for Chitown, the Yankees have become the place old White Sox pitchers go to die.  I'm waiting for Horlen and Peters to turn up on the Yanks' roster.  Angry

thumbs up Sox, 19-2 drubbing of the Rangers with ANOTHER 21 hit performance

And as for the Cubs, well, that 4 game winning streak was nice ...

WTG, White Sox! Nice sweep of the Rangers!

7-3 in their last 10, picking up momentum...keep it going, men -- even if some here won't bother to give you a pat on the back unless the Cubs lose on the same day...which is pretty strange.  Roll Eyes

Geez, I said their 4 game winning streak was nice, and that's not enough for you?  bang head

Here's more: That 4 game winning streak put them in danger of not being capable of losing 100 this year.

Two points:

I believe Kenny Williams should get a lot of credit for what the Sox have done so far.  He sure gets the blame.  Team that is expected to finish last is first in July.  Team with terrible minor league system has 10 rookies out of the 25 on the main team.  Questionable manager choice seems to have brought confidence and a relaxed pace to the club.

For the Cubs, it will take some time, but Theo's first guy, Rizzo, seems to be the real thing.

Enjoy the summer!  The Bears may do it all in the fall.  The winter will be long and cold with the Hawks and Bulls.

(PSSST! Terry! We are both supposed to be masquerading as Sox fans -- quit talking about the Cubs!)

(But wait! The Cubs are all that Sox fans ever talk...aw, the hell with this: I can't do this "fake fan" crap just so I can have license to hate another team.)

(Cue the "bitter lost Sox fan" bitter and hateful reply.)

Eliminated.

They've been out for a whole week already, actually.

Not since June?

I suppose, in theory. The "fire sale" was when the Cubs' brass threw in the towel, IMO. I'm all for players playing hard and earning their salaries no matter where they are in the standings, but when management says "Screw it, we're done"...

Mathematically, though, it was September 2.

Pretty cool feature at mlb.com lets you go back in time in the standings, for a great number of seasons (not just this year), and get a point-in-time snapshot. No more having to listen to "...dah Marlins were a hunnert and fifty games behind at the All-Star break before they came back and won the World Series!"...just go look.
