Maywood Park - Race Card Analysis
Friday, May 18, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1
8 - FOX VALLEY DOMINO (3/1)
Love this horse. Won his last two at good odds and in impressive fashion. Debuts for Elliott barn tonight. Won from the eight post two starts back, so it can be done. Will likely seek a good early spot and be a factor throughout. Have to string along here.

7 - ELUSIVE RAINBOW (5/2)
Been facing some tough winners or dealing with poor posts at BMP and HOP. Much better spot here. Won the only time he raced on this oval. Top driver Oosting at the controls. Early move likely. Looks like a major contender.

3 - HE'S A GOLD DIGGER (4/1)
Took some betting action last week and responded with a nice win. Steps up, but looks like he has some talent. Repeat not out of the question.

1 - LOGAN D (15/1)
Simmons trainee draws well for 2012 debut. Might need the race, but could hang around for slice.

5 - HUGGY BEAR (8/1)
Had his own way on the lead, but could not close the deal last week. Likely to show speed again and will be in the mix.

6 - SHOTGUN BOB (6/1)
Shows speed at times and has been a factor in recent races. Needs to do more to pull off the victory.

2 - PARK'S FINALE (12/1)
Was too far back last week. Did make up some ground late and should have better position tonight. Capable of hitting the board.

4 - C R JACKPOT (10/1)
Recent form is so-so. Gets close at times, but needs to do more. Might have to go first over.

RACE 2
1 - I KILL TIME (PP1) / 1A - ODDS ON MOINET(PP7) (6/5)  ***Winner: $2.80  $2.10  $2.10***
Both parts of the entry in sharp form. ODDS ON MOINET would be the odds on choice even if entered alone as she's won 7 of 9 nine races this year, mostly against the top local mares. She has not raced on this oval recently, but does have 2 wins in 4 lifetime starts here. Expect early move. No price, but will be hard to beat.

6 - LETS TALK ABOUT ME (4/1)
Solid as they come mare fits well here. Has knocked heads with Moinet several times this year and is always right there at the wire. Won the only time she raced on this track. Has hit the board in 13 of 15 races this year. Must use.

4 - REV ME UP (5/2)
Set a sizzling pace before fading to fourth last time out at BMP. Had won two in a row on this oval. Front end style fits this track as she has hit the board in all of her eight races here. Will gun for the lead and could be tough to catch.

3 - DEE DEE SAGE (8/1)
Likes to come to the scene late. Will need a hot pace and striking position. Not completely out of the question.

2 - EDITA HANOVER (15/1)
Game effort last week to finish fourth at BMP. Solid horse in her own right, but looks a little in over her head against these.

5 - CHINA GAL (8/1)
Looks like she is a little overmatched against these. Pass for now.

RACE 3
1 - KB'S ROBBY (3/1)  ***Winner: $3.40  $2.20  $2.20***
Drops in class, draws the rail, has speed and likes to win races. Sounds like a great formula for success. Arguments can be made for several in here, but I don't want to over-think this. Horse looks like he "can do".

9 - SENTIMENTALJOURNEY (10/1)
Big effort last week to finish second against a tough winner at this level. Should be in good position from here and can be in the fray when they turn for home.

3 - HURRICANE JOHN (8/1)
Excuses in last few. Prefers the lead, might settle for the two hole here. With a clean trip, no reason why he won't be part of this.

7 - LA CABANA (15/1)
Liked this guy last week. He made a little move, then flattened out. Seeing a hot pace tonight. He could be there to pick up the pieces if the speed tires. Capable of pulling off the upset.

5 - M M WEST (7/2)
Claimed back by Conley barn last time out. Been racing like a machine at this level. Does his best work on the engine. Will have to work extremely hard to get to the top from here. Difficult, not impossible.

4 - RIO'S Z TAM (9/2)
Been on fire for the Warren barn. Might try an early move again. Needs to avoid a parked mile. Can be right there.

6 - JUST THE WAY ITIS (6/1)
Another razor sharp four claimer. Seeks fourth win in a row. Might have to try different tactics with all the speed inside. Race could set up for a closer.

8 - RICH N SPORTY (15/1)
This one has not done much lately. Draws poorly, but does get Oosting. Needs some luck from out here.

2 - OUR SECOND CHANCE (12/1)
Tossing hints in recent races, but needs more to pick up his first win of the year. Can grab a share with the right trip.

RACE 4
6 - FRESHMAN PHENONOM (2/1)
Was too far back at half last week. Gobbled up a ton of ground and came on well to be third. Top driver returns. With a little better position, this one rates highly.

1 - GET A LITTLE CRAZY (6/1)
Did not have much of a chance against a tough winner in his seasonal bow at BMP. Kept good company last year. Roberts and the rail are a good combo. Figures to be right there.

4 - M T NESTER (7/2)
Simmons charge makes 2012 debut. Competed with stakes company last year. Keep tabs on other Simmons horses. Might be ready to roll right out of the box.

8 - TOO SPORTY FOR YOU (15/1)
Was a little too far back to a slow first half last week. Did gain a bunch of ground in the stretch. Hard to like from way out here, but did toss a little hint last week. Outside chance if things go his way.

7 - ANOTHER BEAUTY (8/1)
Left well for position last week and finished third against a tough winner. First time lasix tonight. Not sure of tactics from this spot, but he is sharp and fits in here.

3 - YANKEE DOODLE JIM (3/1)
Fought to the wire in seasonal debut last week. Figures to improve off that solid effort and looks like a contender.

2 - STEUBEN PAPALE (20/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Slow qualifier. Let's watch for now.

5 - GYPSY LEATHER (12/1)
Finished a respectable fourth in last. Switches from Oosting. Needs best to share.

RACE 5
1 - SMOKEN CAMBEST (6/1)
Scratched last two times he was entered. Not a good sign. Trainer Calvert does have a solid record and the horse has done well here in the past. Fits if ready.

4 - HANNIBAL HUDSON (4/1)
Big effort from the eight hole last week. Left for an early spot, then would up having to go first over. Battled tough all the way to the wire. Should get closer to the front in much better shape here. Contender.

6 - MADEY MAC (3/1)
Came out ready to roll and wired the field last time out. Prefers the top and will have to work for it from here. Won't be easy, but he is capable.

5 - PURE ADDICTION (7/2)
Oosting drove last week, the horse was bet down and won rather easily. This guy is a strong player at this level, but losing Oo scares me off.

9 - ROLS ROYCE MINDALE (12/1)
Finally sheds the eight post. Was a close fifth last week. Gets new driver tonight and should have better position than what he's had recently. Does not win often, but is another that can hit the ticket.

8 - HE'S BUCKS BEST (15/1)
Managed a perfect trip last week and just missed winning at big odds. Might try same tactics and with another good early spot, can be part of it again.

2 - LITTLE MORE RAM (8/1)
Has not been too far off lately. Should have good position here. Rarely wins. Gimmick possibility.

3 - SIXXPAK (10/1)
Tried to circle the field last week, but flattened out. Needs to bring A game to threaten here.

7 - JOSTING JACK (15/1)
Gets close at times, hardly ever wins. Tough spot from here. I'll pass.

RACE 6
5 - DELCO WILLOBEE (9/5)  ***Winner: $2.60  $2.10  $2.10; 5-1 Exacta: $4.60; 5-1-2 Trifecta: $28.80***
Third start back following a layoff for this guy. Parked from the eight post last week and still was close at the finish. Better post, faces easier. All systems go. Looks solid. Hope for even money.

1 - AT MAX SPEED (9/2)
Good spot here. Gets Oosting and faces easier. Won the last time he had the rail. Looks like a strong contender to round out the exacta.

2 - LETSGETREADYTRUMBL (15/1)
Was on this guy for a few weeks, but he just has not fired. Like the switch to Roberts. Maybe a more aggressive drive will wake up this fella. If ready to rumble, he can hit the ticket.

7 - POLAR BEAR (7/2)
Was all over this guy last week and he threw a total clunker. Looks like he should fit with these, but the tough post and dull effort last week scare me off.

4 - DONALD HIMSELF (6/1)
Could not get it done from the rail in last two. Trip only gets tougher here. Pass.

6 - AMERICAN LEASE (8/1)
In form, but appears way overmatched here. Outside shot a minor award.

3 - WESTERN DEAL (12/1)
Recent form is dull. Needs to bring much more.

8 - COLTINS PLACE (20/1)
Gets close at times, but looks like he's in over his head. Tough post. Pass.

RACE 7
7 - DAZZLING DIANA (9/2)
Returns to the claiming ranks after taking on better. Looks like she wants the lead. Should blast from here and can take this all the way.

4 - JANET ROSE (10/1)
Fits well in this spot and Oosting returns. Might show speed and should be a factor in here.

9 - PICKAPLACETOPARK (7/2)
Tossed hints last two races. Could be rounding into form. Will have the position needed to be part of this.

8 - TILLYFILLY (6/1)
Razor sharp and wants the lead. Will have a hard time with speed to her inside. Probably needs to change tactics somewhat. Can be in the mix with the right trip.

6 - DELIGHTFUL DOT (3/1)
Perfect trip last week and managed a second place finish. Could share with the right trip.

2 - CAMILLE ROSE (12/1)
Been holding her own at HOP and BMP. Has a couple wins this year. Does not show any speed. Will need some breaks, but looks like she could get a piece.

1 - LANGTREE LILY (15/1)
Has not won in ages. Every now and then gets close, but I'll pass.

3 - WINDY CITY DIANE (8/1)
Recent form rather dismal. Pass.

5 - JUST SHUTUP NDRIVE (15/1)
Looks like had some road trouble last time out against cheaper. Prior races appear a little dull. Pass.

RACE 8
2 - SHARK WAVES (10/1)
Like the 10/1 morning line here. Been battling better at HOP and BMP in recent weeks. Was a terror on this track earlier in the year. Roberts should have this one in good position from this spot. Well-timed move gets this done.

6 - FIVE COUGARS A (4/1)
Brutal trip last week against much tougher. Parked the mile to quick fractions and still was close at the finish. Shouldn't have to work nearly so hard tonight. Will be tough to collar.

8 - SWEEET TALKIN TOM (5/2)
Held firm last time out to pick up his eighth victory in sixteen starts this year. Affrunti barn is on fire. Tough task from out here, might get parked out, but can be right there if things go his way.

7 - BAUER'S Z TAM (3/1)
Racing very well at BMP recently. Has had success here in the past. Needs trip and hot pace to close into. Another that cannot be ruled out in a very competitive event.

4 - ALLAMERICAN BOMBER (12/1)
Was a nice winner the last time the Bomber raced here. Chased tougher at BMP and HOP last two weeks. Needs a good trip, but figures with these.

5 - LARRY'S PLACE (15/1)
Won the last time Oosting drove. Figures to be a contender again. Needs live cover.

1 - CHARLIE RUSSELL (8/1)
Takes on a bit tougher, but is sharp right now. Rail keeps him close.

3 - GEORGE'S ZTAM (6/1)
Has some speed to burn. Loss of Oosting hurts chances. Will be involved early. Can hang around for a slice.

RACE 9
3 - NJ'S BIG DEAL (10/1)  ***Winner: $10.20  $4.00  $3.80; 3-1 Exacta: $44.00***
Love this guy. Is inside of main rival. Will gun to the top and figures to be tough to catch. As long as we don't have some insane fractions, I believe he can pull this off. Price looks right.

1 - KING'S LEGEND (3/1)
Nice horse from the Erv Miller barn. Will use rail to sit right behind the leaders. Can pull off the win if speed duel develops. Open stretch move coming.

5 - AL'S HAMMERED (2/1)
Is racing like a machine right now. Has uncorked some amazing final panels out at BMP. Did lose last time he was at this track, so he can be had. Certainly capable, will have to work for it.

7 - UNCLE SMOOTHIE (6/1)
Knocked these off the last time they squared off on this track. Had the perfect trip that night. Will have to work a trip from here. Top flight ICF horse has to be considered.

2 - FOX VALLEY MAHALO (8/1)
Should be in the mix from here. Will need a few breaks to knock out these heavyweights.

6 - URAWOMANIZER (7/2)
Was not far off last time he was in an ICF stake. Oosting helps cause. Needs hot pace and position to take advantage should the leaders tire. Outside chance.

8 - MIKE'S BOY (20/1)
Looks like he might have some talent, this is a rough group and rougher post. Pass for now.

4 - WESTERN COLE (12/1)
Has some speed, but looks overmatched here.

RACE 10
1 - ICE MAN COMET'H (5/2) ***Winner: $4.60  $2.60  $2.60; 1-9 Exacta: $11.20; 1-9-2 Trifecta: $34.20***
Speed, rail, solid trainer/driver and faces a softer group. Hard to look beyond this guy.

9 - ANESCAPE N (3/1)
Horse is usually right there, but tends to find new and interesting ways to lose. Last time he was DQ'd. Will probably just miss once again.

2 - FOX VALLEY LIBERO (6/1)
Wired an easier group last time. Might sit behind the #1 and hope to pass the leader in the stretch. Will be in the mix.

7 - SIGN THE PRENUP (9/2)
Was a perfect trip winner last time he raced on 4/27. Likes to use his speed, but is in a tough spot from way out here. Has done well historically at this track. Will need one of his better efforts to pull this off.

5 - INNOVATION (8/1)
Used the open stretch to pick up an overdue victory. Loses Oosting and needs to work out a trip from this spot. Not feeling this guy here.

4 - BRING THE RAIN (15/1)
Got stomped on by the Ice Man last time they met. More of the same here.

3 - SLEAZY MR E (10/1)
Looks a bit overmatched. Pass.

6 - MAKE IT WORK (15/1)
Recent form on the dull side. New driver tonight. Needs to show more.

8 - CJ'S CRUISER SAM (15/1)
Returns from a brief layoff. Tough spot. Probably needs one. Pass.

RACE 11
8 - KAYDON BEGONE (3/1)
Was an impressive winner here on 5/4. Will likely seek early position once again and power past them late. If the #2 is a little short, this guy will take advantage.

2 - IN OVER MY HEAD (5/2)
Returns to action following a sharp qualifier. Does not race much, but is effective when he does. Owns two wins in five starts on this track. Has the class to beat these if ready to roll.

1 - DADE HALL (6/1)
Steps up, but with the rail, figures to be in mix and can get a piece of this late.

7 - WINORDIETRYING (10/1)
East coast invader is winless on the year. Faced tough foes at YR. Respect Oosting, but this is a tough spot. Keep an eye on him.

3 - LAZY LIZARD (4/1)
In top form, but looks a bit overmatched tonight. Might hang around for a share.

6 - PICASSOS BOY (12/1)
Flashed a move last week before flattening out. Will need to sustain bid to have a chance at the upset here.

5 - PAPA BRIAN (8/1)
Finally scored his first win of the year, crushing an easy field. Much tougher task tonight. Needs cover, but it's not impossible.

4 - TURN IT UP LOUD (15/1)
Form is lackluster. Will need to bring more to compete with these.

RACE 12
9 - THIRD EASY HOTSPUR (9/2)
Returns after a brief layoff. Willis barn has good numbers on class drops and layoffs. Should have good position and can handle these if ready.

8 - PILGRIMS HALEY (8/1)
Impressive win in her Maywood debut last week. Has speed. So do others. Facing a tough trip, but might be good enough.

1 - PUDDIN TAME (10/1)
Takes on tougher, but her speed and the rail will keep her close.

3 - ANITA HAMMER (3/1)
Could not get it done from the rail last week. Oosting/Affrunti a tough combo. Has some speed. Hard to leave out of the gimmicks.

4 - VIP FILLY (7/2)
Used the open stretch to beat an easier field last week. Will have a tougher go of it from here, but is hard to rule out.

5 - FURIOUS FIVE (6/1)
Set a fast pace last time she raced here and just missed. Roberts will probably blast again. Other speed to contend with. Hard pressed to pull this off.

2 - STARDOM BOUND (15/1)
Racing well right now. Could save ground and grab a share.

6 - TRENDY L (12/1)
Won from the rail last week. Much tougher challenge from here.

7 - LYFSLYKABOXACHOCLT (15/1)
Gets close at times, but this is tough spot for her. Pass for now.

RACE 13
7 - RAGING CAM (2/1)  ***Winner: $2.60  $2.10  $2.10***
This one jumps off the page. Been racing well against much tougher. Likes to win and gets Oosting at the reins. Should power past this group without breaking much of a sweat.

6 - PRIME ESCAPE (3/1)
Suggestive effort in last. Might be rounding into form and is up against a rather soft group. Should factor prominently.

8 - SAMEASITEVERWAS (8/1)
Having a disappointing 2012. Has ability, but he'll need to bring one of his better efforts. Can share with the right trip.

4 - I'M BLUE TOO (9/2)
Showed some late pace last week, but needs to do more.

2 - NDIZANI A (6/1)
Has not won in a while. Gets close at times. Might grab a share.

1 - FROSTONPUNKIN (15/1)
Has not been remotely close in ages. Pass.

3 - BEN'S JD (12/1)
Recent form is discouraging. Needs to show more.

5 - JOEZEHRLOVESJOHNNY (15/1)
Recent form is dismal. Pass.

RACE 14
8 - SPIRITUAL KING N (12/1)
Been watching this guy. Has gone some huge miles lately. Crushed foes last time he was at this level. Even with the post and a probable rough trip, he can wear down this field.

9 - BEAU JET (6/1)
Makes debut for Roberts barn. Been facing a little better at HOP. Should be in good position from here.

1 - LAWSUIT (3/1)
Back down to an easier spot. Should be in the mix from this spot.

7 - MIKE LANIGAN (9/2)
Been a machine at this level. Has hit the board in 11 of 13 races this year. Will likely leave for position and should be in the mix throughout.

2 - WHATSHOULDIDO (15/1)
Gets close on occasion, but has not won in forever. Did toss a hint last week. Might be good enough to crack the High Five.

3 - KEITHER (7/2)
Lackluster effort last week. Perhaps new driver can ignite the spark.

4 - PALMER (10/1)
Recent form is so-so. Needs a bigger effort to pull off the upset.

5 - SENSATIONAL BB (8/1)
Gets close at times. Might show speed. Can get a share.

6 - CRIPPLECREEK FOX (15/1)
Off form. Pass for now.

Locks:
KB'S ROBBY (3rd race)
DELCO WILLOBEE (6th race)
RAGING CAM (13th race)

Bombers:
SHARK WAVES (8th race)
NJ'S BIG DEAL (9th race)
SPIRITUAL KING N (14th race)
