Maywood Park - Race Card Analysis
Thursday, May 17, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1
5 - SAMMOBRAND WILLOW (8/1)
Form appears to be on the upswing for this guy. Raced very well last week and finished third at big odds. Hoping he'll leave for early position, get a good spot and gobble up the #1 in the stretch.

1 - TROIX HANOVER (8/5)
Just missed wiring the field last week. Will be on the lead again from here. Likely fave certainly rates again.

6 - FOX VALLEY SEE YA (10/1)
Excuses in last two. Had nowhere to go last week, appeared to have some pace. A clean trip might be all he needs to pull off the upset.

3 - SPORTS SCOOTER (5/2)
Finished a close fifth last time out from the seven post. Better post, faces easier and gets Marcus at the reins tonight. All signs point to a good effort from this guy. Contender.

4 - REAL DESIRABLE (6/1)
Finished a fast closing third last week. Does not win very often, but if he can repeat last week's effort, he can hit the ticket.

2 - COLT HONOR (15/1)
Was a little closer at the finish last time. Still needs more. Long overdue. Pass.

7 - FOX VALLEY SIZZLE (20/1)
Has not been close in forever. Pass.

8 - GLASGOW GAMER (15/1)
Scratched sick last time. Has not raced since February. Pass.

RACE 2
3 - TOPVILLE BRIDGETTE (5/2)  ***Winner: $5.00  $2.60  $3.00; 3-6 Exacta: $12.80; 3-6-4 Tri: $60.60***
Makes 2012 debut. Forward progress in three qualifiers seem to indicate that this gal might be ready right out of the box. Respect for top driver and solid trainer put this one at the top of the list.

6 - ITSABOUTTONIGHT (2/1)
Makes first lifetime start. Trainer Prather has solid credentials and typically has them ready to roll. Showed speed in most recent qualifier. Could be a good one. Watch tote for clues.

4 - ROLLIN IN THE DEEP (8/1)
Found foes a little too tough at HOP and BMP. Showed some good speed last time she raced on this oval. Could get the jump on these and might prove tough to catch. Consider.

8 - TWELVE JEMS (10/1)
Was never really in position last week. Makes third start after layoff. Could see a better effort, but the post an obvious concern. Remain intrigued here. Keep an eye on this one for now.

1 - IAMLOVEDBYTHEKING (15/1)
Has not been close in four starts this year. Races for new trainer tonight. Need to see something before considering.

2 - BONJOUR MADAM (8/1)
Showed some speed before fading against BMP claimers in last. Looks overmatched here.

5 - FOX VALLEY TAHITI (4/1)
Lost to cheaper last time out at BMP. Appears overmatched.

7 - CLAIRE DE LUNE (15/1)
Did not show much of anything in 2012 debut last time out. Needs much more.

RACE 3
3 - FLIP (8/5)  ***Winner: $3.00  $2.40  $2.10***
Raced very well last week, but came up just short as the favorite. Expecting him to gun for the lead once again and has a great chance to hold these off.

6 - MURVEY LEO (20/1)
Rather dull effort last week after tossing a hint in his previous race. Should find better striking position here and should be a big factor.

4 - NJ'S GO JOHNNY GO (8/1)
Had all sorts of traffic issues last week. He looks to be in good form, but the 0 for 16 is hard to get past. Probably won't win, is a strong gimmick contender.

7 - PARK LANE HERO (9/2)
Was in too tough at HOP last time out. Have much respect for trainer Willis and driver Marcus Miller. Still, would like to see some flash of form before backing. Watch for now.

1 - ARIZONA STRAITTALK (7/2)
Third straight rail draw for this one. Has not really threatened to win yet, has been in middle of the pack. Another ground saving trip in the cards here. Has shot at the ticket.

8 - CJ'S REAL DEAL (10/1)
Rode the rail last week and hit the board. Much tougher task from out here. Winless in 14 starts. Longshot to win.

2 - DONTEVENMESSWITHME (12/1)
Has not been close lately. Romped on by claimers in last. Pass.

5 - LOYZ KINGPIN (15/1)
Did not show much against claimers last time out. Probably needed the race and might need another. Pass for now.

RACE 4
5 - JUNE P (9/5) ***Winner: $2.60  $2.40  $2.10***
Seeks third win in a row. Has been impressive for sure, but has had an easy time getting to the top. Might be tested a little more tonight, but is hard to pick against.

1 - MISSY MUFFLER (6/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Competed against some very good two year olds last year. Decent qualifier. Nice post and top driver make this one a solid contender here.

4 - BRILLANT ROSE (12/1)
Excuses in last two at BMP. She was a runaway winner the last time she raced here. Would expect an early move from this gal. Looks like a contender at a price.

6 - CYPRESS HILL SUDS (3/1)
Made a bold move last week and wound up finishing third. Does not win often, but can hit the board if she can repeat last week's effort.

8 - SPORTY BURBON (8/1)
Is usually in the mix, but she will have to work hard from here. Might leave and hope for the best. Outside shot at the money.

2 - FALL'S DELIGHT (4/1)
Last two races sort of dull. Might share with good inside trip.

3 - SATRDAYNITESPECIAL (15/1)
Having trouble keeping up with easier company. Looks overmatched here.

7 - FOX VALLEY DINA (20/1)
Shows speed at times, but lacks stamina. Needs to show much more.

RACE 5
5 - CLEVER SADIE (12/1)
String of excuses for this one. Parked the mile the mile in last two. Can only get an easier trip. Looks live. Can pop at a price.

2 - ALLAMERICAN VIRGIN (3/1)
Tangled with a bit tougher at BMP in last two. Will probably seek the top from here and will be tough to catch.

3 - KB'S TK (8/1)
Tossed a hint last week and finished a close up fifth. Oosting at the reins tonight. Figures to be a major player in here.

9 - MS CAMRY (7/2)
Disappointed as the betting favorite in last. Looks like she has had excuses since joining Affrunti barn. Should be in striking range from here. Contender.

6 - FRONTIER LADY (6/1)
Flew late to grab third last week. Should flush live cover here and another late move can see her finish in the money.

1 - GYPSYS LITTLE STAR (9/2)
Did not do much last week in a start she probably needed. Draws well, but rarely wins. Slight chance at a share.

4 - NASHVILLE KITTY (10/1)
Does not win often. Recent form on the dull side. Pass.

7 - MARJAY DREAMS (15/1)
Has not been close in six starts this year. Pass until we see something.

8 - ALYCOLE (15/1)
Poor form. Tough post. Pass.

RACE 6
4 - DARN SKIPPIE (5/2)
Been tossing hints in last few. Made a bold move last week to just miss. Could be sitting on a winning effort here.

6 - SNILLOC FIVE (3/1)
Raced very well in a needed start. Should be tighter tonight and with Marcus at the controls, he will be tough to catch.

3 - STRYKER (4/1)
Makes 2012 debut off two suggestive qualifiers. Fits at this level and has done well at this track in the past. Probably needs a tightener, but has a great chance if ready.

8 - KB'S GOINGCOMMANDO (8/1)
Likes to be on the lead and will have to blast from here. Hung tough on the front end last week. Will need more tonight. Can hit the board if he doesn't get parked.

2 - JUST US (10/1)
Seems to make a move every race, but never gets close to winning. Maybe another well-timed move can help him hit the board this time. Outsider.

5 - INDIAN RIDGE ZAK (6/1)
Was close at the finish, but hardly ever wins. Might follow cover and get a slice.

1 - SPRINGLAKE DRAGON (12/1)
Winless in 15 tries this year. Has not been close recently. Pass.

7 - J V'S BAD BOY (15/1)
Scratched sick last time. Shows speed in lines. Might be an early factor, but is in a tough spot from out here.

RACE 7
8 - MELODIE HOTSPUR (4/1)
Tough post, but this gal looks like a strong contender. She made up some ground into a fast second half last week. Been keeping much better company. Roberts first time with her also a plus. Maybe we can get a price here.

5 - AR SISSY (3/1)
Brushed to the front like a wild horse last week. Unreal. If she brings that kind of wallop again, she could leave them all in the dust.

3 - SUMMER PARTY (8/1)
Our big bomber from last week has every right to contend once again. Probably needs to avoid a first over trip, but with live cover, she will make her presence felt.

4 - PLACE'N FIRST (5/2)
Faced a bit tougher last week and is in a better spot here. Has shown speed in the past. Might blast to the front here and, if so, will be tough to run down. Contender.

7 - THEDAYYOUHAVEMADE (15/1)
Has not shown much lately, but has been facing some tougher gals. Has shown speed at times. A good early spot will make her dangerous. Can't rule out.

2 - SKYWAY LENA (10/1)
Showed a little something last week and she might be slowly rounding into form. Still needs more before putting her on top, but she is a viable gimmick contender.

1 - FOX VALLEY LILAC (6/1)
Rarely wins, but does have some early speed. Should be contention throughout and can get a share of this.

6 - FOX VALLEY KATRINA (12/1)
Dull form and rarely wins. Does get Oosting tonight, but I don't see it helping much here.

RACE 8
8 - BLAZING FURY (3/1)
Been battling much tougher gals at BMP. In a soft spot here. Post the only concern. Needs somewhat decent striking position and can roll right on by these.

3 - FINAL ATTRIBUTE (12/1)
Made a nice move, coming from the eight post, and held third. Looks to be rounding into top form. Should have better striking position from here and could be sitting on a big race.

4 - MAKIN' A STATEMENT (5/2)
Speedball always battles hard. Has not held off a field in some time, however. Won't go down without a fight. Needs a soft quarter somewhere along the way. Not sure she'll get it.

5 - MO VALLEY MAGGIE (4/1)
Speedball has been razor sharp for weeks. Will likely have her hands full getting to the front, but has shown she can sit in the pocket too. Will be in the mix.

2 - TAMARAC SASSY (8/1)
Thought she would have been much more competitive last time, but she never got involved. Ability is there somewhere, but her last race scares me off. Pass for now.

6 - NOTJUSTAPRETTYFACE (6/1)
Seeks third win in a row. Not sure she beat the toughest of fields last week. In a tough spot from out here and loses Oosting. Pass.

1 - BLUEBIRD REGAL (10/1)
Broke last time out and was never a factor. Rail helps cause and she figures to be in the mix from here.

7 - JOKERSLITLWHITELIE (15/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Had a solid record last season, but let's watch for now.

RACE 9
7 - NO GIN (8/1)
Flew up the open stretch to snag the win last week. Oosting chose him over the #2 and #5. With the right trip, he could win right back. Price appears to be right.

2 - ZELLER'S ISLAND (5/2)
Raced very well against tougher in last two. In a much better spot here. Will use early speed to his advantage and will be on or near the lead throughout. Strong contender.

4 - FOX VALLEY TOCCOA (4/1)
Won handily last week. Debuts for new barn tonight. Figures to blast to the front and rates highly against these.

8 - GUTS N GLORY (10/1)
Was rolling late to get up for second last time out. Does not win often, but is competitive with this kind. Can grab a slice if things break his way.

1 - SHASKA (12/1)
Showed a good late burst last week and finished a close fourth. Should be a factor here with the nice rail trip.

3 - MAJOR WORRIES (3/1)
No match in last at BMP. Just missed from the seven post last time he raced here. Winless in 14 starts this year. Might have to come first over, or hope for an opening late. Outside shot.

5 - PARK BUG (6/1)
Uncorked a three-wide move, before the half, last week and held on to second. Loses the services of Oosting tonight, and that has to hurt chances. Pass for now.

6 - DO ME BLISS (15/1)
Threw a real clunker last time out at this level. Hard to like after that race. Pass.

RACE 10
9 - DASHING MAJORETTE (9/2)
Giving this gal one last chance. Flew late and got up for third. Was parked to outrageous fractions in prior race. Should have good position from this spot. She's racing well, just needs clean trip and she can break through at a decent price.

2 - FREAKN FRIDAY (10/1)
Making third start after layoff. Moves inside after racing from the seven post in consecutive weeks. Took a little action last week, but was never in striking range. She should have the position tonight and could be ready for a big effort. Looks live.

6 - CUZIMADEMYMINDUP (8/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Comes off a very successful three year old campaign, in which she competed against some toughies and banked over $45K. She might be good enough to handle these if she's ready. Guessing she needs a race.

1 - ANDI ROSE (6/1)
Tough trip took its toll last week. Now gets Oosting and the rail. Should be in mix from here.

8 - MAKENA CAT (7/2)
Was not much of a factor in her last two races against tougher at BMP. Fits much better against these. Post an obvious concern, but a good effort from this one, puts her right there.

7 - SHE'S AUTOMATIC (3/1)
Disappointed as the heavy fave last time out. She never really threatened a tough winner that night. Prior form was dull as well. Need to see more before endorsing.

3 - APACHE WELLS (12/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Hit the board in 11 of 13 races last year. Qualifier was so-so. Need to see a race.

4 - SIX PACK ANNIE (15/1)
Dull recent form. Rarely wins. Pass.

5 - AMY ELLEN (15/1)
Appears overmatched at this level. Pass for now.

RACE 11
9 - SEEKIN FOR GLAMOUR (6/1)  ***Winner: $4.20  $2.80  $2.10***
Returns after a suggestive effort at BMP, closing in 26.3, against tougher. Drops to claimers tonight. Makes second start for scorching hot Affrunti barn. Should be in position from here and can handle these with a well-timed move.

6 - EPONA (7/2)
Drops to a much better spot tonight. She was a non factor against much tougher in her last couple. Can show speed. Owns nine lifetime wins at this track. Look for early, aggressive move. Contender.

1 - ANDI'S SISTER (9/2)
Prather trainee makes 2012 debut. Two solid qualifiers indicate readiness. Owns 5 wins in 10 starts on this oval. Shows speed lines and rates highly from this spot.

8 - RONNY B GOOD (12/1)
Oosting returns and he has had success with her in the past. Still, this field has some depth to it and this post is a killer. May blast and hope. Outside chance.

2 - MADDISON PAIGE N (3/1)
In top form and will be a factor once again. Likely to us speed to be up close and can grab a piece of this.

3 - PARTY TIL THE AM (10/1)
Raced huge last week, finishing third despite being parked much of the way. Might have to come first up, but is sharp now and could get a slice.

4 - MACKENZIE'S POWER (8/1)
Wired easier last week. Will need to work harder from here to get to the top. Probably will be part of a hot early pace. Needs a big effort to share.

5 - JUST WINIT (15/1)
Returns from BMP. Been holding her own out there. Looks like she rates with these. Needs a few breaks with the trip, but it's conceivable that she can hit the ticket.

7 - TWILIGHT DELIGHT (15/1)
Finished a sneaky good fifth last time in a start that she needed. Tough spot way out here, and losing Oosting hurts chances. Passing for now.

RACE 12
2 - FREE PARKIN BEHIND (7/2)
Raced like a monster and crushed foes last week. Should be in good position once again. Repeat certainly looks possible.

4 - STEPH'S MELODY (9/2)
Lacked room last time out, but still finished a close fourth. Rates highly with these. She has some speed. Perhaps Roberts will blast out for a good early spot.

1 - LITTLE BROWN SADIE (8/1)
Drops back to claimers and draws the rail. That should add up to a much improved effort from this gal. Should be in the mix here.

6 - NIGHT'S ALL NIGHT (3/1)
Dominated easier last time she raced. Much respect for the Affrunti barn. Figures prominently in here.

7 - PLEZEN MR HACKER (6/1)
Speedball, got bet down, and took it all the way last week. If she can clear in decent shape, could hang on for a slice.

3 - MIKAYLA'S ROCKETTE (10/1)
Was a distant second to the #2 last week. Is competitive at this level and with a good trip, can get a piece of this.

9 - VELVET GIRL (12/1)
Finished last against much tougher last week. Back to a more appropriate level. Should have the needed striking position to be a factor. Can't rule out.

8 - FOUR MAJOR TITLES (15/1)
Finished up the track last time out at BMP. Had been racing well prior to that debacle. Still hard to see anything good happening from way out here.

5 - ECHOES IN MY SOUL (15/1)
Has not been close in recent weeks. Pass.

Locks:
FLIP (3rd race)
BLAZING FURY (8th race)
FREE PARKIN BEHIND (12th race)

Bombers:
SAMMOBRAND WILLOW (1st race)
DASHING MAJORETTE (10th race)
SEEKIN FOR GLAMOUR (11th race)
