Maywood Park - Race Card Analysis
Thursday, May 10, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1
7 - FLIP (2/1)
Blasted to the front last week and nearly held on. Gets top driver Oosting tonight and that could put him over the top. Third start of the year could be a winning one.

8 - ROCKSTAR GLIDE (8/1)
Third straight outside post for this guy. He left quickly for position last time out and finished a close fourth. Always a tough task from the eight spot, but I think he is far better than most of the horses in here. Should get a piece of this and the price could be right.

2 - ACE'S Z TAM (9/5)
Finished well in last, coming home in a snappy 56.3. Should be closer to the leaders from this spot. Big shot to roll on by.

1 - ARIZONA STRAITTALK (4/1)
Makes third lifetime start. Shown improvement in each race. Should be in good position and upswing could continue. Contender.

5 - HE'S A GOLD DIGGER (15/1)
Was far back throughout last time and never threatened. Showed speed two starts back. Maybe an aggressive drive by tonight's new driver will help. Slim chance.

4 - BONEIRE'S BRANDON (10/1)
Finished a close fifth last time. Still needs to show more before I can consider.

6 - WHOSE TRICK N WHO (12/1)
Returns from brief layoff. Shows speed in lines. Looks overmatched, but might help trigger a hot pace.

3 - NEVER EXHAUSTABLE (20/1)
Gets lasix tonight, but this guy has just not been close this year. Pass.

RACE 2
1 - INXPRESSIBLEBEAUTY (4/1)   *** Winner: $4.20  $2.40  $2.20 ***
Raced very well in debut last time out. Raced parked out and hung on well to save fourth. Has every right to improve off that effort and with the rail, has a great shot here to greet the photographer.

2 - VAGUE RESEMBLANCE (3/1)
Parlayed a rail trip into a third place finish last time out. Should be forwardly placed again and has a great shot to grab a slice of this.

4 - APRIA AMIE (15/1)
Benefitted from rail trip to grab third last time out. She looks like she is improving with each start. Might follow up the #3 and have a big say here.

3 - ASK NO QUESTIONS (2/1)
Despite the services of Oosting, I think this morning line fave is beatable. She's 0 for 13 lifetime and, on more than one occasion, she could not handle cheap claimers. Maybe use underneath.

6 - FINE TERROR (6/1)
Rail trip helped her finish third last week. Was having trouble hanging with claimers previously. Does show some speed. Gimmick possibility with good position.

7 - SURE ANYTIME (12/1)
Winless in 19 starts. Hits the board from time to time, but she has her work cut out for her out here. Pass.

5 - OUR LAST ROSE (20/1)
Makes first start. Not much to go on from qualifier. Need to see a race. Pass.

8 - KATHY JEAN (8/1)
Couldn't beat claimers last time out, draws poorly and loses Oosting. None of that is good. Pass.

RACE 3
4 - CRAZY D COLE (6/1)   *** Scratched ***
Liked this gal last time and she disappointed. Looked like she just had poor position and was never really in it. Gets a little better post tonight, field looks a little easier and Gillespie's barn has been clicking. Giving her another chance.

8 - PLEZEN MR HACKER (10/1) *** Winner: $6.20  $5.20  $3.80 ***
Upset alert. This gal has been blasting out and will be on or near the lead again here. She held on much better last week, finishing a close sixth. Has 14 lifetime wins on this track. Big shot to take it all the way.

3 - KB'S TK (12/1)
Raced parked out against a tough winner before tiring last time out. She fits well in this spot. Reunited with Marcus, who has won with her in the past. Strong chance at a price.

2 - WAND'S COWGIRL (8/1)
Oosting returns and he has done well with her in the past. Her recent races look dull, but the inside post and driver change greatly improve her chances.

9 - BUTCHIE LIL TAX (7/2)
Does not win all that often, but seems to get close. Could find herself with position to hit the board again.

1 - ANIGHTWITHWILMA (3/1)
Makes her first start since January. Nothing much to see in two qualifiers. Looks to me that this gal will need a race. Pass for now.

5 - GYPSYS LITTLE STAR (15/1)
Returns from layoff. Probably needs a race. Pass.

6 - FRONTIER LADY (9/2)
Yet to hit the board this year. Tough spot from here. Pass.

7 - LADY ANN SPUR (15/1)
Has not won in ages. Tough spot from here. Pass.

RACE 4
3 - POWER AND PURPOSE (2/1)
Has been rugged on the lead and has finished first or second in eight straight starts. Will be on the engine once again and will be tough to catch.

1 - DON'TMAKEMELAUGH (5/2)
Been racing well and now draws rail. Should get the good trip here. No surprise to see her power past in the lane.

4 - FREE PARKIN BEHIND (4/1)
Seems to always bring a big move, but has not quite been able to get there in last couple. Maybe she'll get rolling a little sooner tonight and challenge the #3. Strong chance.

7 - PLUM GROVE (12/1)
Raced very well from the rail in her last two. Made a bold move last week before flattening out. Seems to be showing signs that she is sitting on a big race. Tough spot from out here, but she looks live.

2 - ALYCOLE (8/1)
Form appears to be tailing off. Inside position helps, but she needs more.

5 - MIKAYLA'S ROCKETTE (6/1)
Flashed some speed last time and raced well to finish second against a softer bunch. Might try another early move, but she rarely wins and looks like an outsider here.

6 - NASHVILLE KITTY (15/1)
Has not been competitive in recent races. Pass.

8 - SPYDER BITE (15/1)
Faces easier tonight, but form is dull. Not seeing it happen from out here.

RACE 5
8 - BY THE SEA SALLY (12/1)
In a race with no standouts, I'll take a shot here. This gal is making her 2012 debut after competing against some tough ICF foes as a two year old. If she's ready to roll, she looks to have too much talent for this soft field.

7 - REPERTOIRE (5/2)
With one win in 33 starts and the outside post, this fave looks vulnerable. Her lines look okay and I would expect her to be in the mix, but will probably just use her underneath.

5 - TWELVE JEMS (3/1)
Was a non-factor last week against a tough winner. Makes her second start of the year and could improve. Has a legit chance here.

4 - CHECK MY SWAGGER (4/1)
Did absolutely nothing in her first lifetime start over at BMP. With a race under her belt, she figures to improve. This looks like a weak group.

3 - GIADA (15/1)
Had all sorts of trouble staying flat last time out at BMP. Broke the last time she raced here. She might have ability, just cannot trust her.

1 - BS SMOKIN ARIZONA (5/1)
Has been somewhat close recently, but she is winless in 56 starts. Rail might help her hit the Super or Tri, that's about it.

2 - J T'S FIRST (15/1)
Was parked out to a tough winner in last, but really has not been close to the money in ages. Pass.

6 - MY MOM IS SEXXY (8/1)
Got romped on by BMP claimers last time out. Pass.

RACE 6
5 - TROIX HANOVER (2/1)
Set a sizzling pace against a very tough winner last time out. Should get the lead much easier here. Oosting chose him over others. Can see this guy going to the front taking it all the way.

3 - FOX VALLEY SEE YA (3/1)
Fits very well in this spot. Has been racing well against a bit tougher. Not sure how the trip will go here, but he does figure to be a major player here.

6 - INDIAN RIDGE ZAK (8/1)
Brutal trip last week and he still only finished five and a half lengths back at the wire. Driver change to Leroy Miller tonight. This guy has not won in forever, but it is hard to ignore his last race. Maybe round out your gimmicks with this bomber.

4 - DARN SKIPPIE (7/2)
Made up a ton of ground last week to finish a sneaky good fifth. With better striking position tonight, this guy could be right there.

7 - HE'S BUCKS BEST (6/1)
Been chasing tougher. Needs right trip, but this sure appears to be a contender in this spot.

1 - JOANIES IRISH LUCK (12/1)
Recent form is sort of dull, but the rail can work miracles. Should be in mix and could hit the  board.

2 - COLT HONOR (15/1)
She had the rail last time and was dead last. Off form. Pass.

8 - ROLS ROYCE MINDALE (15/1)
Dull form. Eight post. Pass.

RACE 7
6 - SHE'S AUTOMATIC (9/5)
Has not been racing particularly well, but she is in a very soft spot here. Must respect trainer Harmer. Might be way too good for these.

5 - CANDY N APPLES (8/1)
Raced well for Johnny Roberts last time he drove her. She fits with these and might be on or near the lead. Might be tough to catch. Contender.

1 - PILGRIMS HALEY (8/1)
Makes Maywood debut. Trainer has solid credentials and had a nice winner last Friday night. I would expect this one to be ready to roll and be a big factor from this spot.

9 - PRIMROSE PATH (15/1)
Has not been far off in two starts on this track. Switches to Leonard tonight, who has had success with this mare in the past. Early position is the key. With a good spot, this gal could get a piece of this.

2 - CAM SUNDAY (4/1)
Oosting gets a shot at ending the drought for this one. She's typically a factor, but never can quite get there. Would expect her to save ground and wind up with a piece of the Super.

3 - IM A SALLY SUE (12/1)
Looked like she had some late pace last week in a race she figured to need. Has competed mostly against cheaper. Looks a little overmatched here. Pass for now.

4 - SIX PACK ANNIE (9/2)
Was too far back last week. Perhaps an aggressive drive could help. Rarely wins. Outside shot at the money.

7 - CALISTA'S SHARK (15/1)
Looks to be a bit overmatched. Tough post. Pass for now.

8 - KELLI RIVNDEL (20/1)
Makes her return to the races. Tough spot. Probably needs a race.

RACE 8
7 - SUMMER PARTY (12/1)  *** Winner: $43.20  $10.80  $11.00 ***
This gal swept by the leaders and picked up a nice victory last week. There should be a fair pace tonight and, with good position, can blow by them again. She fits and the price could be right.

2 - BLISSFULL DREAMER (3/1)
Been racing very well over at BMP. Appears to have some ability and top driver Oosting will probably look to make an early move. If she takes to the oval, she'll be right there.

4 - DRAGON FANTASY (5/2)
Raced very well on lasix last week. Took some action at the windows and nearly held on for the victory. Roberts will likely gun for the lead and this gal will be tough to collar.

6 - FOX VALLEY VISTA (4/1)
Blasted from the gate and battled all the way to the wire. My guess is she'll fire out again and is certainly a threat to take this if she can clear in good shape. Tough task, but not impossible.

1 - CAM'S WARHAWK (10/1)
Rail and driver change to Warren might help the cause. She gets close at times and figures to be in the mix here.

5 - SIMPLEE PACEFULL (15/1)
Raced much improved last week as she fought hard for the lead and hung tough to save third. She rarely wins, but another big effort could very well land her in the money.

8 - FOX VALLEY LILAC (8/1)
Makes debut for new connections. Had been competing against softer. Tough spot from out here. Watch for now.

3 - KID ANNETTA (6/1)
Recent form is lackluster and loses Oosting. Struggles to win. Strictly a longshot here.

RACE 9
8 - FOX VALLEY TEENIE (10/1)
In a race filled with horses that struggle to win, I'll take a shot here. Speedball gets lasix for the first time. Horse has won three times on this track already this year. If she can get to the front in decent shape, she has a very realistic shot to hold off this bunch.

4 - SPORTY BURBON (5/2)
Racing very well right now. Parked out much of the way last week and finished second to a tough winner. Early move likely. Is a major contender here.

5 - BELLVALLEY MIRACLE (3/1)
Uncorked a big late move last week, but came up short as the betting favorite. She keeps finding ways to lose. Just 2 wins in 41 tries. Can't use on top, but she'll probably hit the board.

7 - AR SISSY (4/1)
Made a bold move and blew the field away in an impressive victory last time out. Tough task tonight with the outside post. Will have to work for it. Not impossible.

6 - SKYWAY LENA (12/1)
Showed a little something last week. Parked out much of the way, but was game all the way to the wire and held on for third. She does appear to fit at this level and could be a factor with good striking position.

1 - CYPRESS HILL SUDS (6/1)
Game effort last week to finish a solid second at big odds. Does not win often, but the rail should keep her in the mix once again.

2 - FALL'S DELIGHT (8/1)
Steps up tonight, but draws well and get Marcus in the bike. She struggles to win, but gets close most of the time.

3 - GIBMEACHEAPTAN (15/1)
Form is rather lackluster and this is one of a few in here that just does not appear to want to ever win. Pass.

RACE 10
8 - DASHING MAJORETTE (15/1)
Liked this gal last week and she was just roasted to some crazy fractions. Despite drawing the eight post again, I have to give her another shot. Not seeing anything in here that can park her out to a 55.4 half tonight. If she can get to the top, she'll be tough. Price should be right once again.

7 - FREAKN FRIDAY (12/1)
Made up a ton of ground last week in a needed start. Faces easier tonight. Marcus returns to the reins and he has had success with her in the past. Post the only negative, but she looks like a player here.

4 - ANDI ROSE (6/1)
In a softer spot tonight after taking on tougher at BMP. Switches to Warren, who has had success with her in the past. With a good trip, this gal will be in the mix.

3 - CHALLENGE MY HEART (4/1)
Is in easier and moves in from the eight post. Might show some speed tonight and grab a good early spot. Looks like a contender.

6 - WINDY CITY JOANN (8/1)
Oosting returns, and he has done well with this gal in the past. Has not had a good trip in a while. Maybe the top driver can work some magic here. Outside shot.

1 - TRENDY L (3/1)
Stayed inside last week and hung around for fourth. Should get another good trip here, but she does not win very often, just 2 wins in 30 starts at this track. Use underneath somewhere.

2 - LT'S SPORTY BABE (7/2)
Form appears to be tailing off some. Good post should help, but she looks like an outsider.

5 - BE MY ESCAPE (15/1)
Struggled against far cheaper last week. Has not won in ages. Pass.

9 - AMY ELLEN (10/1)
Appears a little overmatched here. Pass for now.

RACE 11
5 - VIP FILLY (3/1)   *** Winner: $5.80  $4.60  $2.80 ***
Returns after a rough go of it over at HOP. If she wasn't scratched lame from her last start, I would be all over this one. She has kept much better company than these and has a great record with seven lifetime wins on this track. If she's ready, she could romp.

1 - ANITA HAMMER (5/2)
Was a convincing winner last time out on 4/12. Draws well again. Trainer and driver both red hot. Early move likely. Strong contender if ready to roll.

4 - MADDISON PAIGE N (7/2)
Went wire to wire for Roberts last week and ended her losing skid. She takes on tougher, but she is in form and winning right back would not be a surprise. Will probably go out winging again.

6 - RONNY B GOOD (8/1)
Drops back down to a more competitive spot. Is in great form, but loses top driver Oosting. Shows speed in her lines. Perhaps she'll blast from here. Loves the track with 27 lifetime wins here. Must consider.

7 - PARTY TIL THE AM (10/1)
Won impressively last week against cheaper. Is in good form and could be in the mix again with a good trip. Tough task from here, but not impossible.

8 - TWILIGHT DELIGHT (12/1)
Returns from layoff tonight. Didn't do much of anything in qualifier. Probably needs a race. Tough post. Watch for now.

3 - VELVET GIRL (6/1)
Been racing fairly well against cheaper. Looks a little overmatched tonight.

2 - ECHOES IN MY SOUL (15/1)
Has not been competitive lately. Pass.

RACE 12
9 - SENTIMENTALJOURNEY (6/1)
Showed a spark last week in a needed start. Made up a bunch of ground and finished a sneaky good sixth from the eight post. Should be tighter and with better striking position tonight, this guy has a big shot to take it all.

7 - PURE ADDICTION (8/1)
Returns from BMP, where he held his own against a bit better. This guy has had success here with 6 wins in 18 lifetime starts on this oval. Looks like a major contender in here.

1 - OUTGRAYGEOUS Z TAM (3/1)
Rath and the rail always a good combination. Horse does not win often, but he should be in contention throughout and should get a slice of this.

2 - KB'S GOINGCOMMANDO (7/2)
Broke at the start last time and lost all chance. With a flat mile, he's right there with these. He's just hard to trust.

3 - JUST US (10/1)
Has not won in ages, but he did battle pretty hard last week. Was parked the mile and finished a close sixth. With an easier trip, this guy could hit the board.

5 - REAL DESIRABLE (9/2)
Recent form is on the dull side, but the driver change to Marcus could be what the doctor ordered. With good striking position, he can get a piece of this.

8 - SPRINGLAKE DRAGON (15/1)
Dismal last time out. Tough post. Pass.

4 - OUR CHIP-E (15/1)
Broke stride last time out. Has not won in forever. Pass.

6 - J V'S BAD BOY (12/1)
Lost by a mile last week. Something isn't right here. Pass.

TOP PLAY:
FLIP (1st race)
