Maywood Park - Race Card Analysis
Thursday, May 3, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1
6 - CLEVER SADIE (6/1)
Added this gal to my watch list after she went a big race on 4/19. Was parked the mile and raced well to finish fourth. She fits with these and has 11 lifetime wins at this track. With good cover tonight, she has a great shot. Like the horse and love the 6/1 morning line.

5 - NIGHT'S ALL NIGHT (2/1)
Returns from BMP, where she held her own. Has raced well here and figures to be a major player tonight. Should have control of the pace and will be tough to catch.

7 - MIKAYLA'S ROCKETTE (8/1)
Gets Roberts back and he has done well with her in the past. Tough post, but this gal is competitive with these. Can be part of this.

1 - BUTCHIE LIL TAX (3/1)
Does not win very often, but she should benefit with the move to the rail. Could get a piece of this.

2 - FRONTIER LADY (4/1)
Showed a little spark last week. Post shift helps here. Cannot dismiss. Struggles to win, but has to be considered a gimmick possibility.

4 - DIXIE DARLIN (12/1)
Sheds the eight post tonight. Been unable to sustain bids in recent races. Might have to go first-up here. Could hang around for a slice. Slight chance.

3 - INTIMATE HALL (10/1)
New driver tonight. Has not been close lately. Needs to show improvement before considering.

8 - MY GIRL LORA (15/1)
Driver change from Leroy Miller to Smolin could help the cause, but the tough post and dull form make it difficult to like her chances.

RACE 2
8 - DELCO ROCKNROLL (9/5)
Been waiting for this guy after he had nowhere to go in last. Looked like he was loaded with pace. Maybe the eight post helps with the price. With clear sailing, this guy could romp over these.

3 - WOLFIES SPORTSTER (4/1)
Liked this one a great deal last week. Unfortunately, he found room too late and finished a fast closing third. Willing to give benefit of the doubt as my hunch is that this guy has ability. Perhaps a more aggressive drive will help. Using him with the #8 in the exacta box.

2 - FRONTIER SCOUT (8/1)
Showed high speed from the 10 post before fading at BMP in last. With the move inside, this one could get control in much better shape here. Will be a factor at a price.

7 - HE'S A GOLD DIGGER (15/1)
Caught my eye with the flash of speed in his debut. Might fire out and, if he builds off his initial race, this one could be a gimmick contender.

1 - ARIZONA STRAITTALK (10/1)
Makes second lifetime start and draws rail. This one has every right to improve off the first start and could be one to use in the gimmicks.

4 - ACE'S Z TAM (3/1)
Was not able to get it done last time from the rail and finished second as the betting favorite. Will have a more difficult task tonight. Must consider for gimmicks, but not wild about his chances to win.

5 - FLIP (6/1)
Was a non-factor in his 2012 debut over at BMP on 4/25. Raced in a couple big races as a two year old. Can't rule out. Watch tote board for any hints.

6 - NEVER EXHAUSTABLE (20/1)
Has not been remotely close. Pass.

RACE 3
8 - PHOBIC PRINCESS (8/1)
Back to back eight posts for this one. Fired off the gate and went after the leader before she had trouble maintaining stride. Looked like she had some horse that night. With a flat mile, she can be right there. Price could be right.

2 - PEYTON'S PINKY (2/1)
Razor sharp right now. Will seek lead and could very well take it all the way tonight. Major contender.

4 - FRONTIER BELLE (3/1)
Ships in from BMP and gets top driver Oosting. Horse did show some speed two starts back and perhaps Oosting will make an early move here. Strong player.

3 - BABY HOLD ON (4/1)
Made three wide moves in her last two races. Draws a little better tonight. Struggles to notch victories, but with a well-timed move, she can grab a slice.

1 - BE MY ESCAPE (10/1)
Drops in class and moves to the rail from the eight post. On the other hand, recent form is just dismal and this one has not won a race in ages. Guess she should probably be used in gimmicks.

6 - BASHFUL INTERLUDE (6/1)
Poor recent form. Has shown speed on occasion. Needs more to contend.

7 - SPUNKY BABY (15/1)
Draws poorly yet again. Finished far back in last and will likely finish far back again.

5 - NACHOORDINARYGIRL (15/1)
Has not been close in two starts this year. Pass.

RACE 4
8 - SHES LOVIN IT (3/1)
Makes 2012 debut after a solid two year old campaign. Made a move in her qualifier. Could be ready to win at first asking. Major player here.

5 - JUNE P (5/2)
Demolished the field in her last race on 4/12. Not wild about the mini layoff here, but this one was lightly raced as a two year old. If she races like she did in her last, she will be tough to handle.

4 - TWELVE JEMS (6/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Parked out in qualifier. Raced out east last year and changed hands a few times. Hard to get a read on this one. Watch warm ups and tote for clues.

6 - COLE HEARTED CHICK (7/2)
Makes debut for new connections. Raced well in her last on 4/12 from the eight post. Has struggled to win, but this one should be part of this.

3 - SILLY SYDNEY (10/1)
Races for new connection and gets Oosting tonight. Not close in five lifetime starts. Watch for now.

7 - ZIPPER (15/1)
Got motored on by claimers in last at BMP. Have respect for trainer/driver Gillespie, but this one looks like an outsider here.

1 - FINE TERROR (8/1)
Could not handle claimers at BMP. Maybe rail and Roberts can keep her in contention. Gimmick outsider.

2 - J T'S FIRST (12/1)
Was not close against claimers in last. Pass.

RACE 5
9 - PARTY TIL THE AM (6/1)   *** Winner: $10.80  $4.80  $6.40 ***
Was in over her head in last. Drops to a much better spot here. She was a convincing winner last time at this level. Should find herself in good position and can blow by the tiring pacesetters. Price could be right.

5 - FREE PARKIN BEHIND (7/2)
Has run into a couple toughies in recent races. If a hot pace develops, this one can pick up the pieces.  Big shot.

4 - POWER AND PURPOSE (3/1)
Will blast and can take it all the way again. She is razor sharp and could be tough to collar.

3 - STEPH'S MELODY (5/1)
Impressive winner last week has a definite shot at repeating. This field looks a little tougher than the one she just beat. Will need another big effort to get it done.

1 - PLUM GROVE (9/2)
Draws the rail for the third straight time. Finished a close second last time. Figures to be in the mix again and should be used in your gimmicks.

2 - JUST SHUTUP NDRIVE (12/1)
Moves inside and should be in better position to contend tonight. Can grab a slice.

7 - PLEZEN MR HACKER (20/1)
Highly doubt this one wins here, but she appears to have enough speed to cause some problems for the #4. Will probably be in the mix early and then throw in the towel.

6 - ALYCOLE (15/1)
Has not been close in last three. Pass.

8 - NASHVILLE KITTY (15/1)
Did not do much from the extreme outside in her last at BMP. Tough post again. Pass for now.

RACE 6
1 - PUDDIN TAME (3/1)    *** Winner: $4.80  $3.20  $2.40; 1-4 Exacta $25.00 ***
In a great spot to pick up her first victory of the year. Raced well from the eight post in last and finished a close fourth. Will use her early speed for a good position and does not have much to beat tonight. Solid.

4 - SPORTY BURBON (5/2)
Held on for dear life to beat softer company in last. Is sharp and will probably be heard from. Strong contender to round out the exacta behind the #1.

7 - WINDY CITY JOANN (6/1)
Tough luck of the draw once again. She appears to fit against these, but the post looks to be too much to overcome once again. Outside chance.

5 - LT'S SPORTY BABE (12/1)
Disappointed as the favorite in last. Does appear to fit well at this level. Will need a bigger effort to contend.

6 - ARIZONA TALES (7/2)
Looks a tad overmatched. Respect for driver Oosting keeps me from ruling out. Slim chance.

2 - TRENDY L (8/1)
Draws well and once again should be a big factor. Does not like to win, but should get a slice of this.

3 - PARK PLACE GRACE (10/1)
Returns from layoff. Probably needs a race. Has not won in ages. Pass.

8 - AMY ELLEN (15/1)
Dull form. Appears overmatched. Pass.

RACE 7
9 - RANKING OFFICER (6/1)
I'll go with this guy in a field of strugglers. Went a pretty big mile last week from the seven post. Should have much better striking position tonight. Owns seven lifetime wins on this track. Red hot Trainer Affrunti typically has them ready to roll.

1 - OUTGRAYGEOUS Z TAM (3/1)
Rath and the rail will be tough to beat. Showed a move last week and fits well against these.

4 - SNILLOC FIVE (7/2)
Makes 2012 debut. So-so qualifier. May need the race, but this one likes this track and can be tough on the lead if ready to roll. Has to be considered.

5 - SIXXPAK (9/2)
Has not hit the board in nine tries this year. Was a bit closer last time. Makes second start for hot trainer Conley. Soft field makes him a contender.

8 - DARN SKIPPIE (10/1)
Rode the rail to a third place finish last week. Will need to work harder from here, but top driver Oosting might be able to work a trip. Has a shot to blow past this weak bunch.

2 - CAPTAIN RICE (12/1)
Was not close last week at this level. Has trouble staying flat at times. Pass.

7 - INDIAN RIDGE ZAK (8/1)
Makes debut for new connections. Tough assignment from out here. Has not hit the board in ages. Pass.

3 - FOX VALLEY SIZZLE (15/1)
Has not been competitive in quite some time. Pass.

6 - JUST US (15/1)
Has not been close. Trainer has been cold. Pass.

RACE 8
8 - PLACE'N FIRST (5/2)   *** Winner: $6.00  $2.80  $2.20 ***
Looks the best of this bunch. Three race win streak came to an end last week as she had too much ground to make up against a runaway winner. Eight post makes the task more difficult, but she might be good enough to overcome it.

5 - FOX VALLEY DINA (10/1)
Been showing good early speed, but does not have much to show for it lately. Might be a different story tonight as there does not appear to be much speed inside of her. Should be a big factor and possibly at a price.

1 - DRAGON FANTASY (8/1)
Faced a tough group at BMP last time out. Roberts and the rail is always a lethal combo. Has speed. Major player here.

3 - KID ANNETTA (4/1)
Does not win often, but is usually in the mix somewhere. Probably should try to include this one underneath.

4 - SPORTY TRIP (3/1)
Solid trainer/driver combo. Horse returns from BMP, where she held her own. Has not had any success here, however. Not wild about her chances, but respect for connections keep her in consideration.

2 - GIBMEACHEAPTAN (6/1)
Struggles to win. Hits the board quite often. Consider underneath.

6 - SKYWAY LENA (15/1)
Comes off two straight clunker races. Hard to make a case here. Pass.

7 - LOLA'S PARK (12/1)
Has not raced since 3/29. Recent racing lines pretty dismal. Pass.

RACE 9
7 - FOX VALLEY VISTA (5/2)
Made a big move in last against a tough winner. Looks like a field this one should handle. Another big effort from her should be enough to get it done tonight.

8 - ANNRENEE (6/1)
Was far back last time and never in contention. Will likely follow up the seven and hope for the best. Appears to fit here and top driver makes her one to consider. Perhaps at a price.

1 - BELLVALLEY MIRACLE (3/1)
Keeps trying hard for that elusive win. Rail will keep her in the mix. Has not won in ages and has never won on this track. Will probably find a way to finish second or third once again.

5 - SUMMER PARTY (4/1)
Never threatened from the seven post last time out. Does appear to fit with these. Better post could lead to better striking position. Can be there with the right trip.

2 - KENNELLY (8/1)
Has missed a few weeks. Races for new trainer tonight. Recent form lackluster. Perhaps new trainer inspires bigger effort. Watch for now.

3 - CYPRESS HILL SUDS (10/1)
Could not keep pace with claimers at BMP in last. Does not like to win. Hard to like tonight. Pass.

4 - SIMPLEE PACEFULL (15/1)
Had the rail last time and could not stay close. Tougher spot here. Pass.

6 - LITTLE BROWN SADIE (12/1)
Having problems staying competitive against claimers. Overmatched tonight.

RACE 10
8 - DASHING MAJORETTE (15/1)
Tough post once again for this one. Was a little too far back in last, but she did go a solid last half. Final panel of 28.2 is quick. Faced some tough foes in recent races. No world beaters in here. If she can get anywhere close to the leaders, she might be able to fly by these at huge odds. I'll take a shot with this bomber.

2 - CANDY N APPLES (4/1)
Could not keep up at BMP in last. Horse fits pretty well in this spot tonight. Look for her to grab the early lead and could hang on for a slice.

9 - NOTJUSTAPRETTYFACE (5/2)
No excuse in last. Had the rail and soft fractions and still could not close the deal. Appears to have the credentials to beat these, but cannot trust her after last week's clunker.

1 - CAM SUNDAY (6/1)
Hardly ever wins, but gets close at times. Tonight could be one of those times. Should be in the mix throughout.

3 - FURIOUS FIVE (3/1)
Tough trip in last at BMP. Shows speed at times. Does not win very often. Gimmick possibility.

5 - SIX PACK ANNIE (15/1)
Tough trips in last two. Struggles to win. Can finish closer with a happier journey. Outsider shot.

4 - SPYDER BITE (20/1)
Has not been able to hang with cheaper. Not seeing it here.

6 - WOLF CREEK CUPID (8/1)
Has not raced since early March. May need the race here. Watch for now.

7 - IM A SALLY SUE (20/1)
Form is dismal. Appears overmatched. Pass.

 RACE 11
6 - COLE STAR (5/2)
Almost always a major factor at this level. Top driver has done well with this horse. Another three wide backstretch move likely. Might see a hot pace and this gal is certainly capable of sweeping right on by.

7 - TILLYFILLY (3/1)
Loved this gal last week and she came through for us at a nice price. Will likely have to work hard from here to get the lead. If she clears, she'll be tough to catch.

3 - SPORTAMANTE (4/1)
Has raced very well in claimers. Should show early speed again and will be in the mix throughout.

5 - WINDY CITY DIANE (12/1)
Never saw the rail last week as she left from the seven post. Can only get an easier trip. Rarely wins. Capable of hitting the board.

4 - JANET ROSE (8/1)
Is very competitive at this level. Has hit the board in seven of thirteen tries this year. Will be a major player with right trip.

2 - PICKAPLACETOPARK (6/1)
Has not been far off in last two tries. Should find better position tonight and cannot be ruled out.

8 - FOX VALLEY KATRINA (10/1)
Usually a factor at this level, but does not win very often. Tough task from out here. Pass.

1 - ECHOES IN MY SOUL (15/1)
Has not been close in a while. Rail may help some, but probably not enough.

RACE 12
4 - CAMERA REDDY (15/1)
Seekman trainee appears to fit against this group. Will likely blast off the gate and has a very good chance to go wire to wire. Love the 15/1 program odds.

2 - RIVER TSUNAMI (15/1)
Faced tougher at BMP last time out and was not far off at the finish. Horse appears capable of a good late burst. Driver Jerry Brown needs to keep her within striking distance to have a shot. Longshot with a shot.

9 - DON'TMAKEMELAUGH (8/1)
Should be right in the mix here. Was a close third last week and can certainly hit the board, if not take it all, if the trip goes her way. Wide open race. This one has as good a chance as any.

3 - MADDISON PAIGE N (3/1)
Has been very close in last three races. Roberts at the controls tonight. Horse appears to have some early foot. Perhaps an aggressive drive gets her over the top.

1 - VELVET GIRL (9/2)
Gets needed post relief and should have much better position tonight. Has hit the board in five out of ten races this year. Solid contender.

5 - MS CAMRY (7/2)
Looks like she had some equipment malfunction last week as she finished third. Horse has a good overall record and has six lifetime wins at this track. Trainer Affrunti and driver Miller make for a dangerous combo.

7 - MACKENZIE'S POWER (6/1)
Easy winner from the rail last week. Might try and blast from out here. Lots of speed inside of her to contend with. Going against her tonight.

6 - ZZZT (10/1)
Disappointed in last as the betting favorite. Is usually very competitive at this level. Looks like she wants the lead. So do others in here. Tough spot.

8 - MS KATE (12/1)
Seems to prefer the lead. Hard to see her getting to the front from all the way out here. Pass for now.

TOP PLAYS:
DELCO ROCKNROLL (2nd race)
PUDDIN TAME (6th race)

LONG SHOTS:
PARTY TIL THE AM (5th race)
