There are a thousand reasons where the NFL has problems and isnt the league it used to be. We didn't have all these fiasco's when the likes of Bob Hayes, Lance Alworth, Sonny Jurgenson, Norm Snead, Ed Podolak, John Brockington, Leroy Kelly, Mike Curtis, Fred Cox, Gale Sayers, Jim Kiick, Roman Gabriel, Herb Adderly, Jim Otto, Chuck Foreman, and the Gogolak's were playing.

Look at the implications of the Packers/Seahawks game as it relates to playoff seedings, fantasy football, and Vegas wagers to name a few. As a result, logical human beings dont need to be insulted by this current feeble product being offered by the NFL. Just board up shop, shut it down, throw away your jerseys, reduce your beer consumption, and let us have our Sunday lives back.

Let's name the 1000 reasons/problems that we dont want/need the NFL anymore ...

1. Packers/Seahawks travesty w/ replacement refs
2. Hochuli - Broncos/Chargers mishap
3. The gray area of Challenges, Un-challengeable
4. "The whistle blew"...
5. The helmet to helmet injuries
6. Players destroyed for life by injury (Steve Smith, Oakland Raiders FB as an example that you probably didn't know about)
7. The ridiculous celebrations and dances for common plays made that you and I made in our backyards and in our streets 30-40 years ago
8. The million dollar salaries dont equate to million dollar performances when it comes to the repetitive uncalled-for penalties for late hits, taunting, etc (lets just start w/ Josh Morgan Redskins)
9. Bounty-Gate
10. "Did he make a football move"?
11. The Haynesworth stomp
12. Week 3, what should have been a 15-yard penalty against the Lions was marked off for 27 yards. It set up a game-winning Titans field goal.
13. Week 3, the refs allowed the 49ers to challenge even though they didn't have any timeouts left... twice. So they were effectively given 5 timeouts.
14. Week 3, Darrius Heyward-Bey got knocked unconscious on a clear helmet-to-helmet hit that wasn't called.

Please help me add-on the remaining 986 reasons...

15.  Games are way too long........too many TV timeouts.....I know that need to make money from advertisements but after a score they have a commercial then come back for the kickoff then have another commercial

16. Challenge system is too slow......it shouldnt take 5 minutes or more to review some of these easy calls that the refs missed in the first place

While I understand your point....old time football had PLENTY of its own issues. Haynesworth's stomp would be a misdemeanor in those days....and if you want "integrity" issues, just look up Paul Hornung and Alex Karras.

I agree with you about #7.....They tried to eliminate trash talking and did for a while....now its back too....the players are so confrontational and these refs are a joke trying to keep it under control.....I propose a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty on any player who does any type of celebration while his team is losing

Gerry Austin is now an "Official in the Booth"

He is not immune to bad calls either...

Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers
1998 NFL Wild Card Game
Referee: Gerald Austin

In San Francisco 49ers lore, there are two last-second, heroic touchdown receptions simply known as The Catch and The Catch II -- the latter of which should never have happened. Down by four points, the 49ers moved into Packer territory with less than one minute remaining. On a second-down play, Jerry Rice made a reception on a short crossing route and fumbled. Replays showed that the ball had slipped from Rice’s grasp before either of his knees had made contact with the ground, but the official ruled that Rice was down prior to losing control of the ball.

Outcome: The 49ers completed the comeback as quarterback Steve Young picked out Terrell Owens between five Packer defenders on a miraculous 25-yard touchdown with three seconds left.

Number 7 is my favorite.....So ridiculous dancing around.   Don't matter the score or down.

Goodell is a joke ---With his London games.  18 game reg season idea....
I thought Tagliboob was a bad commissioner.....Battle now is on for who is worse.
They all act like gambling isn't the big reason for its popularity...
Only sport rules change each year.   Baseball would get killed if it changed rules every year.

How about their rules..Depending on where  you are on the field what a catch is.  Football move in field of play .Basically a catch in Endzone --must take it to sideline with ball....

My favorite---Your allowed to Horse Collar the QB between the tackles....How does that make sense?  As soon as Pretty boy in NE or a Manning get hurt being horse collared that rule will be changed.
But you can't hit QB high or low.

No one knows all the rules....ESPN in Packer / Seahawk game kept saying simultaneous possession not reviewable.  Including saying this was Gerry Austin.  The league released a statement yesterday, simultaneous possession is reviewable in the end zone.
