Maywood Park - Race Card Commentary
Friday, April 27, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1
4 - WOLFIES SPORTSTER (3/1)
This guy raced very well in his 2012 debut last week. Showed some good late pace as he gobbled up ground in the stretch to finish third. Should build off that effort. Major contender.

8 - FOX VALLEY DOMINO (8/1)
Made a huge move in last before flattening out. Switch to Miller a plus, switch to eight post is a negative. If he can fire like he did in last, he will have a big say in the outcome. Might be worth the price.

7 - ROCKSTAR GLIDE (4/1)
Flashed a big move last week and wound up finishing fourth in a suggestive effort. Can build off that race and be a big factor here.

1 - ACE'S Z TAM (5/2)
Was no match for a runaway winner in last. With the switch to the rail and top driver, this one figures to be a player tonight.

2 - MURVEY LEO (6/1)
Horse has shown progress over its last three starts. Finished a solid second in last. Upswing should continue. Gimmick possibility.

3 - BONEIRE'S BRANDON (10/1)
Fits well with the drop. The 0 for 21 lifetime record does not inspire confidence. Hard to put on top, but could be used underneath.

5 - ARIZONA STRAITTALK (12/1)
First starter comes in off a winning, albeit, slow qualifier. Barn does not show much success with first timers. Will watch this one for now.

6 - BECOME LEGENDARY (15/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Was not very competitive in most of his 2011 races. Pass.

RACE 2
8 - PECK BLUE CHIP (3/1)    *** Winner $3.80  $2.60  $2.20 ***
Maybe the post will enhance the price here. I'm all over this one. Seekman trainee looks much better than these. Raced well against tougher in last at HOP. Was in some big races as a two year old. Look for him to blast out from the gate and pull away from these.

6 - SCOOT IN THE PARK (2/1)
Returns from HOP. Raced very well here previously. Top driver and solid trainer need to be respected. Has two wins in two starts on this oval. Will battle for second.

5 - GYPSY LEATHER (8/1)
Did not have good striking position in last  at BMP. Makes first Maywood start tonight. Has shown some speed at times. Perhaps an aggressive Roberts drive could have this one in contention. Sleeper with a chance.

2 - DIAMOND JACK'S ACE (6/1)
Makes second start of the year after a solid second place finish a couple weeks ago. Has hit the board in 8 of 13 starts and should be considered for your gimmicks.

7 - REVY REVRAC (4/1)
Disappointed in last as the favorite. Switch from Oosting and the outside post hinder his chances. Pass.

1 - CLASSIFIED INFO (20/1)
Finished far back in last couple. Warren at the reins, along with the rail might help. Still a longshot.

3 - SHADY MAPLE BULLET (12/1)
Raced poorly against cheaper at BMP in last. Not sure how he figures here. Pass.

4 - HUGGY BEAR (10/1)
Could not keep up with the field in his 2012 debut last week. Need to see something before we can consider this one. Pass.

RACE 3
8 - MY KIND OF TOWNE (10/1)
Impressive winner in slop at BMP in last. Encountered road trouble last time he was here. Tough post, but this guy is in good form. Looks like the best of a struggling lot. Price should be right.

9 - LITTLE MORE RAM (7/2)
Has not been far off lately. Might be in good position from this post. Has every right to contend.

1 - JILLIBY GENERATOR (4/1)
Third straight rail draw for this one. Has not won a race in quite a while. Will seek lead again. Hard to like on top, but has a solid chance at hitting the board.

2 - HANNIBAL HUDSON (8/1)
Last week's effort was disappointing. Good inside trip will keep him close to the fray.

3 - TROIX HANOVER (6/1)
Expected a little more from him last week, but he finished a distant fourth. Not sure of tactics here. Might fire for the lead or have to come first over. Both propositions are risky. Has chance with a trip.

7 - SENSATIONAL BB (12/1)
Perfect trips in last two. Will have a more difficult time from out here. Seems to hit the board consistently. Usable in gimmicks.

5 - SPIRITUAL KING N (3/1)
Made a move, but flattened out in last as the betting favorite. Several breaks in recent races make this guy hard to trust.  Hard to support. Hard to rule out. Your guess.

4 - CAT FIVE STORM (15/1)
Has not been very close in ages. Pass.

6 - ROCKET DOG (12/1)
Has not been much of a factor lately. Pass.

RACE 4
6 - FOX VALLEY TEENIE (4/1)
Speedball figures strongly here. Should get to the front in decent shape as no one inside of her seems to have much early foot. Main rival is to her outside. Will be tough to collar.

7 - PLACE'N FIRST (2/1)
Seeks her fourth in a row. Bit of a tougher task with the outside post tonight. Will have to go a big mile to run down the #6.

3 - AR SISSY (3/1)
Made a bold move that caught my eye last week. Does not win very often. But another effort like last week should have her in the money again.

8 - WINDY CITY JOANN (15/1)
Third straight eight post for this one. Parked mile in last. Sure looks like she fits. Might follow up the #7 and be a factor.

2 - BELLVALLEY MIRACLE (6/1)
Trying hard to end losing streak. Has been close and will likely be in contention again. Can't use on top, but could be part of the tri and/or super.

5 - CAM'S WARHAWK (12/1)
Broke at the start last week and lost all chance. Appears to fit with these. If she can stay flat, she should be a factor.

1 - SIMPLEE PACEFULL (10/1)
Was not close last week. Rail might help, but looks like an longshot tonight.

4 - SATRDAYNITESPECIAL (8/1)
Recent form is just okay. Will need more to be part of this.

RACE 5
5 - DICK MCTRACY (7/2)
Another good one from the formidable Seekman barn. Highly regarded as a two year old making second start of the year.  Has great shot to blow by the tiring speed.

8 - PAPA BRIAN (12/1)
Liked him last week and he would up getting parked out. Draws poorly but switches to Warren tonight. Has a great shot, with decent position, to pass some tiring speed horses. Price could be right here.

4 - ICE MAN COMET'H (4/1)
Disappointed as the heavy favorite in last. Will gun for lead again. Speed inside of him could make him work for it. Has the ability to contend.

9 - BRING THE RAIN (9/2)
Figures to be right in the thick of this. Does not win often, but can grab a piece if things go well for him.

6 - KB'S ROBBY (8/1)
Another that prefers the lead. Could not get there last week and was parked the mile. He will have to work hard to get to front from this spot. Needs an easier mile to contend. Outsider.

3 - WOODY'S SHARK BITE (8/1)
Cut some sizzling fractions in last against easier. Will likely seek lead again. Might hang around for a slice.

1 - FROSTONPUNKIN (10/1)
Has not been close, even with the rail, lately. Pass.

2 - MY SECRET WEAPON (15/1)
Dull recent form. Pass.

7 - DONALD HIMSELF (15/1)
Lackluster form and bad post. Pass.

RACE 6
1 - AMERICAN LEASE (2/1)   *** $3.00  $2.40  $2.10 ***
Made a big move and finished a strong second at this level last week. Oosting and rail will get a lot of attention. Solid chance against a struggling field. Short price.

5 - PARK BUG (9/2)
Looked like he was uncorking a decent move before breaking last week. Perhaps this one is sitting on a big race. Must consider against this field of strugglers.

2 - WESTERN RAVENSWOOD (5/2)
Been close in last couple, but struggles to win. Hard to rule out of Super consideration.

6 - SHUDABOUGHTAZEBRA (6/1)
Returns to the races after a long layoff. Showed improvement in last qualifier, but probably needs a race or two.

7 - WESTERN BEAR (8/1)
Scratched sick last time. Not a good sign. Tough post. Pass.

8 - FIRE FOOT (15/1)
Tough assignment from out here. Recent form just so-so. Hard to use.

3 - CAPTAIN HOGG (15/1)
Poor recent form. Toss.

4 - LEVI THUNDER THUNG (12/1)
Was not close last week despite a good trip. Has not won in ages. Pass.

RACE 7
5 - MASTERS CHAMPION (15/1)
Had no chance in last against tougher at HOP. Fits better with these and has success here in the past. Picking up legendary Dave Magee can't hurt. Sleeper as a chance.

3 - CELTIC SEELSTER (3/1)
Speed horse should have control tonight. Wins his share at this level. Will be tough to beat.

4 - NO GIN (6/1)
Suggestive effort from the eight post in last. Switch to top driver and better post help the cause. Will be a big factor tonight.

9 - HURRICANE JOHN (7/2)
Had some traffic issues in last. Has done very well at this track with three wins in five starts. Will be in the mix.

1 - ZELLER'S ISLAND (8/1)
Raced parked out in last. Rail should help ensure easier trip. Appears to fit well here. Solid chance.

2 - JOSTING JACK (12/1)
Raced well for Warren in last. Should have good striking position tonight. Does not like to win, but can round out the tri and/or super at good odds.

6 - RICH N SPORTY (10/1)
Loses Oosting and moves outside. Hard to like from here. Pass.

7 - MAJOR WORRIES (9/2)
Recent form just so-so. Needs to do more from out here.

8 - STONEBRIDGE SYMBOL (15/1)
Has not been close lately. No thanks.

RACE 8
1 - PRIMROSE PATH (12/1)
Would love to get the program odds of 12/1 on this one. Raced very well last week from the seven post in a start she probably needed. Faced some tough foes out east earlier this year. Has a big shot to meet the photographer tonight.

8 - PUDDIN TAME (4/1)
Added her to my "watch list" after a very nice effort last week. Would be all over this one from anywhere but the dreaded eight post. With a decent early spot, she will be a major player tonight.

4 - LITTLE SWEETHEART (6/1)
Faced a tough winner in last. Fits much better against these. Driver switch to Miller also helps. Solid contender tonight.

5 - SIX PACK ANNIE (12/1)
Raced well last week in a needed start. Horse does not win often, but can share with the right trip.

6 - ARIZONA TALES (5/2)
Wired easier last week. Anticipate another early move, but she has a stronger field to hold off. Don't like that 5/2 morning line. I'll pass.

2 - TRENDY L (8/1)
Dull recent form. Inside post might help keep her in contention, but she's a strictly a longshot here.

3 - PINFOOT (3/1)
Improved post position, but switch from Oosting hurts chances. Dull recent form. Not for me.

7 - KICKAPOO CHER (15/1)
Dismal form. Has not been close in a while. Toss.

RACE 9
5 - NJ'S BIG DEAL (5/1)
Liked this guy last week and he did not disappoint. Was wide on the first turn and battled all the way to the wire. Might get the lead easier tonight and if left alone at all, could take it all the way. My pick in what figures to be a very good feature race. We might get a good price here too.

1 - AL'S HAMMERED (9/5)
Figures to be the heavy favorite and deservedly so. Top drawer ICF three year old has raced very well at BMP. Does not appear to be the quickest off the gate, so he may have to take the overland route tonight.  Not a lock, but will be awfully tough to beat.

2 - UNCLE SMOOTHIE (5/2)
Makes 2012 debut off sizzling qualifier at BMP. Trainer has solid stats off layoff. Horse has great credentials after a terrific two year old season. Should be a major factor.

8 - MIKE'S BOY (15/1)
Sneaky good race in 2012 debut over at BMP. Looks like this lightly raced guy might have some ability, but does not have the credentials of others in here. Legendary driver a plus, but post is a major concern. Probably not in the cards tonight, but keep an eye on him.

3 - IM A NICE SKY (8/1)
Has raced well in his own right, but appears in over his head tonight. Pass tonight.

4 - ZAMBRANO (10/1)
Appears overmatched. Pass.

6 - FOX VALLEY GEORGE (12/1)
Steps up in class and gets Oosting. Looks overmatched against some of these heavyweights.

7 - TOO SPORTY FOR YOU (15/1)
Came up short against easier in last. Pass for now.

RACE 10
3 - POLAR BEAR (5/2)
Finally sheds eight post, drops in class and makes third start since layoff. Watch for aggressive move in this spot. Has great chance for his first victory of the year.

2 - SIGN THE PRENUP (9/2)
Returns from layoff. Has done well here in the past and gets top driver. Might be good enough to beat these at first asking.

6 - ANOTHER BEAUTY (7/2)
Has hit the board in nine straight races. Will be in the mix and needs to be used in all gimmicks.

9 - COLTINS PLACE (15/1)
Improved second place finish in last against cheaper. If he can find a good early spot, he can grab a slice of this.

1 - ARTMENDOUS (6/1)
Returns after a long layoff. Probably needs a race. Watch for now.

5 - LITTLE FISHY (15/1)
Showed a spark last week, but flattened out. Still a longshot.

7 - LARRY'S PLACE (8/1)
Found room last week to pick up the victory. Will need things to really go his way from out here. Switch from Oosting hurts too. Pass tonight.

4 - EL GEES FOGGYFLYTE (12/1)
Blah form. Has not won in ages. Pass.

8 - INNOVATION (20/1)
Recent form is dull. Hard to see him getting it done from this spot.

RACE 11
8 - REV ME UP (5/2)   *** Winner: $5.60  $3.00  $2.80 ***
Very impressive win last week. Has the class to handle the hike and post. Will blast for the lead. If she gets there in good shape, she will be hard to catch.

2 - TAMARAC SASSY (4/1)
Sheds the eight post and should be in good position tonight. Fits well with these and will have a say in the outcome.

1 - SKINNY JEANS (3/1)
Rail and her good speed will make her a major contender in here. Like her chances to be part of this.

5 - KENNANS NANCY LEE (6/1)
Returns after taking on tougher at HOP. Likes this track and could pick up pieces if hot pace develops. Consider.

6 - CHEESE PLUMPER (8/1)
The Plumper gets Warren tonight. She has a tough task from this spot. Slim chance.

4 - SHE'S AUTOMATIC (12/1)
Recent form appears to be tailing off. Pass tonight.

3 - FINAL ATTRIBUTE (15/1)
Switches to Oosting, but this gal appears a bit overmatched here. Pass.

7 - WHISTLE PIG (10/1)
Dismal form. Tough post. Pass.

RACE 12
8 - MISCHIEF MAN (7/2)
Faces easier but draws poorly. Has the ability to beat these, but will need to work from out here. A good early spot helps the cause. Has to be considered a major contender.

1 - PICASSOS BOY (4/1)
Eye popping win in last. Takes on tougher, but Roberts and the rail make him a formidable candidate to win again.

9 - AT MAX SPEED (12/1)
Excuses in last two. Has the credentials to compete in here. Should have good striking position. Price shot worth considering.

4 - FIVE COUGARS A (3/1)
Shuffled back in last against tougher. Drops tonight and should use speed to his advantage. Will be a major player in this spot.

5 - DADE HALL (8/1)
Was no match against Warrawee Lad in last. Fits very well in here. Needs the right trip, but has a shot to be part of this.

6 - FINN JET (15/1)
This one has caught my eye with big moves the past two weeks. Switches to Rick Magee tonight. Needs another well timed move to win. Not out of the question.

7 - ENERGY ANGLE (12/1)
Did not race particularly well against cheaper in last. Oosting does return, which helps cause. Tough post. Needs good early spot, but cannot totally dismiss this guy.

2 - BC'S BAD CAT (6/1)
Could not hold off an easier field last week and loses Miller tonight. Hits the board quite frequently, but is a longshot to beat these.

3 - CELEBRITY BEST (15/1)
Had the rail and lost to cheaper. Not good. Pass.

RACE 13
1 - LETSGETREADYTRUMBL (12/1)
Tossed hints in last three races. Now draws the rail. Will be in good position to hit board, and possibly win, for the first time this year. The likely faves have question marks here, so I'll take a shot with this bomber.

8 - SOME OR LIS (5/2)
Been watching this one this one closely and he has done very little in three races. This is a soft spot and trainer Miller always has to be respected. Maybe we'll see a sign of life from this guy tonight. If ready, he appears to have more than enough ability to crush this field.

3 - ALLAMERICAN BOMBER (4/1)
Road trouble in last at BMP. Takes on easier tonight. Roberts' first try with him. Look for aggressive early move. Solid contender.

6 - RIVER OF FAITH (6/1)
Flashed a bold move last week before stalling. Perhaps he is on the upswing and can sustain his bid this week. Possibility.

4 - I'M BLUE TOO (3/1)
Returns after layoff. Very lightly raced. Not quite seeing the 3/1 program line. I would need to see something before investing here. Watch tote for clues.

5 - NDIZANI A (8/1)
Should fit with these, but recent form is off. Pass for now.

7 - WESTERN DEAL (12/1)
Recent form is rather lackluster. Tough task from here. Pass.

2 - INCREDIBLE ITEM (15/1)
Has not been competitive lately. Impossible to use.

RACE 14
5 - M M WEST (9/2)
Was gaining all sorts of ground on a tiring Mike Lanigan last week. With better position, this guy could turn the tables. Big shot to take the nightcap.

7 - LAWSUIT (8/1)
Finishing well lately. This one shows some speed in lines. Maybe an aggressive early move by Warren can make this one a contender.

9 - MIKE LANIGAN (7/2)
Has hit the board in 10 of 11 tries this year. Opened up a big lead and hung on for the win last week as the heavy favorite. Will probably be favored again, but I think that 32.3 last quarter is a bad sign. Have to use in gimmicks, but I will look to beat him here.

2 - ELKHORN DAMIEN (5/2)
Seeks third win in a row. Loses Miller, but is in shape and merits strong consideration. Will be in the thick of things.

6 - REAL DESIRABLE (12/1)
Has not had a good trip in a while. Will need one from here. Maybe the driver change to Leonard helps the cause. Can't rule out.

3 - WHATSHOULDIDO (6/1)
Finished second in last two races. Has not won in eons, but is in good enough form to grab a slice.

8 - PALMER (15/1)
In decent enough form, but the tough post and the switch from Warren will be hard to overcome. Pass tonight.

4 - SPRINGLAKE DRAGON (12/1)
Had a perfect trip last week, but finished a distant third. Tougher task from here. Outsider.

1 - SAND JAKE (15/1)
Has not been close in a month. Pass.

TOP PLAYS:
PECK BLUE CHIP (2nd race)
DICK MCTRACY (5th race)
POLAR BEAR (10th race)
REV ME UP (11th race)

LONGSHOTS:
MASTERS CHAMPION (7th race)
PRIMROSE PATH (8th race)
NJ'S BIG DEAL (9th race)
LETSGETREADYTRUMBL (13th race)
