Have the Marines previously been tolerant of guys going out and ripping their C.O. in public places? Somehow, I think not.

"I think 99 percent of the soldiers and Marines currently on duty understand the duties of supporting the chain of command and understand their rights of free speech are limited," he said. "To that 1 percent who don't know their rights to free speech are limited once they take the oath, this is a loud and clear message."

I understand your sentiment here, and am not critical, however coming from a long line of military folks in my own family, we were all taught not to publicly disrespect our Commander in Chief regardless of how it was expressed.  I firmly belive in this policy.  Should he have been seperated from the service?  Yes.  I do feel however, that a less than honorable discharge for his 9 years of honorable service was not appropriate.

we used to have commanders in chief like eisenhower and reagan , not dickweeds like this last group ie clinton, and obama.

would you like takin orders from these guys ? better yet would you like going to battle with them watching your back?

don't u think a leader earns respect rather than demand it ?

i never got the military mentality.

If you don't support your Commander in Chief you need to quit your post.  Not disrespect over 200 years of military code in public instead, then demand your right to serve as well.  You take an oath.  He took an oath, then violated that oath...he gets the boot and deserved it.  It's simple..don't like it, leave....he is leaving.

Just what the world needs another state/government servant. Kudos to the young lad speeking his mind about our Muslim leader. How did it come to this? A country built on Chritrian values now in the hands of an Indonesian named Barrack Husein

Lets be clear here......This should not be a political issue, however it will be used as such by many.  I for one, am not a supporter of the current administration, nor was I ever. He is ill qualified, with zero foreign policy, ect..ect...ect...I could go on and on.  However this is about a Marine who disobeyed a time honored directive.  Had he disrespected Ronny Reagan or Ike himself, he still deserved the boot.  Lets not forget this........

And when they are caught  the pile of BS gets REAL huge.  Tears roll, apologies fly, fingers get pointed.  Even this kid has publicly stated he wished he could take it back.  Shoulda kept his mouth shut, period.  Keep his beliefs, but keep them quiet as a Marine.

Marines are held to a much higher standard.  I know-my daughter is one, my uncle was one,and many other of us have served in other branches. Disrepect the chain of command, you pay the price. Nothing new here.......nothing.

A shame a junior Senator from the most corrupt state in the union has the last say. I wish the kid the best. Another that spoke his mind with no recourse has just been eliminated from the playoffs. Till next year Tim Thomas beer

The military doesn't want men who can think for themselves, they want men who will take orders, no matter how wrong they are, and take the orders without question.
Even if the orders are coming from a guy who is President for no other reason than the color of his skin. His lack of qualification to be President, nor his horrible record for the last 3 1/2 years should not enter into the decision making process of a soldier..
Just be a robot. Cheer a lot for your country, no matter how badly it is being run by the pathetic politicians we get to elect.
That's what the people at the top of the military want their soldiers.
Never seen many Marines who were Mensa members, and I have several friends who are former Marines.
For this guy to be discharged in this fashion and wipe out 9 years of service is a travesty.
If the standard for firing/discharge were the same for the clowns we have in Washington, there would be a new election for all of them every 3 months.
If we had more Marines like this guy, perhaps the United States would not look as bad as it does to most of the rest of the world..

Even if the orders are coming from a guy who is President for no other reason than the color of his skin.

He is President because the Republicans totally f'ed up the country and the American people wanted them the hell out of office, and then on top of that the Republicans ran a couple of nasty and objectionable (and in the VP one case, utterly ignorant) ultra-right wing whackos against him. Run a reasonable candidate or two for a change who might appeal to Americans in the middle, instead of people who pander to the KKK/neo-nazi wing of the reactionary Republican party, and maybe you'd get better results.

Quote
If we had more Marines like this guy, perhaps the United States would not look as bad as it does to most of the rest of the world..

If we had more Marines questioning their C.O.'s and refusing to take orders just because they don't like they color of a guy's skin or desperately believe in some extremist whack job birther conspiracy (as an excuse to de-legitimize someone who is "commanding while black") or have some personal idea of what are "lawful orders" or maybe even don't agree with his command decisions, it would not be much of a fighting force, would it. But you're right the rest of the world might think better of the U.S., because we would not be able to take military action as the first option to any and all disputes.
