Maywood Park Selections
Thursday, April 19, 2012
(Program odds in parentheses)

RACE 1

4-APRIA AMIE (12/1)
Faced a tougher group than these in last at BMP. Gets big driver change to Oosting. Has shown improvement in three starts this year. Might be ready to pop and price should be right.

2-ART'S BAD BOY (8/5)
Erv Miller trainees always need to be respected. Second best last out. Should be well-backed and is a major contender.

6-WESTERN MODEL (9/2)
Tough trip last week. Didn't seem to like the turns very much and now goes from Oosting to Crisler. Looks like there's some ability here, but I think we need a better spot before investing in this one.

7-SPORTSCAR GEORGE (15/1)
First time lasix user. Decent race last time against runaway winner. Tough post and driver change from Oosting don't help the cause. Not completely out of the question, but would need things to go his way for chance at upset.

8-ROCKSTAR GLIDE (4/1)
Draws 8 post in Maywood debut. Does not appear to have been raced very hard in two BMP races this year. Driver change tonight from Hiteman to Wilfong. Perhaps an aggressive drive could ignite spark here.

5-WOLFIES SPORTSTER (8/1)
Makes 2012 debut. Nothing much to see in qualifiers. Leonard barn has good numbers off layoff, so keep tabs on this one.

1-JACK N WATER (15/1)
Has not shown much of anything in two qualifiers. Need to see something before considering this one.

3-DONTEVENMESSWITHME (8/1)
O for 19 lifetime and has not been close at all. Pass.

RACE 2

5-CLEVER SADIE (8/1)
Didn't have much of a chance from the 8 slot in last. Parked out the race previous. Shows a liking for this track with 11 lifetime wins here. Warren at the controls tonight. Longshot special.

4-WAND'S COWGIRL (9/2)
Makes third start after layoff. Look for more of an aggressive drive tonight. Has a decent record at Maywood and has to be viewed as a strong player here.

6-ARIZONA TALES (2/1)
Disappointing race from the rail in last. Gets Oosting tonight, who has done well with this one in past. Probable fave has shot, but odds likely short.

3-MADDISON PAIGE N (5/2)
Just missed last week in a good effort. Another that struggles to win, but if she can muster another effort like last week, she'll contend again.

8-DIXIE DARLIN (15/1)
This one has been racing better than results suggest. Would probably give her more of a look from different post, but will toss tonight.

1-MY GIRL LORA (12/1)
Finished up the track in last. O for 12 this year does not inspire much confidence. Rail trip always helps cause. Maybe she can hand around and land in the tri.

2-LADY ANN SPUR (15/1)
O for her last 38. Though, she did run second last time Roberts drove. Will certainly find a way to lose this race, but it would not be a complete surprise if she hit the board.

7-INTIMATE HALL (8/1)
One win in last 48 starts. Has not been close lately. Poor post. Pass.

RACE 3

4-BLUEBIRD MUFFLER (8/1)  *** Winner: $12.60  $8.40  $2.80 ***
Makes 2012 debut. Looks to have been highly regarded as two year old as he raced for some decent purses at Indy last summer. I'll take a shot here.

2-DELCO ROCKNROLL (6/5)
Bet down in debut at BMP and raced very well finishing third. Might have some talent here. Major player.

8-PARK LANE HERO (4/1)
Comes to Maywood after four blah races at BMP. Much respect for trainer Willis, but hard to beat that 8 post.

7-SNIPPY BINK (15/1)
Another first starter. This one with Oosting driving for Binkley. Not much to go on in qualifier. Watch tote board.

1-TAYLOR'S ATM (9/2)
Decent second place finish in 2012 debut. Would have to think rail keeps him in contention again.

3-HE'S A GOLD DIGGER (12/1)
First time starter. Was not a factor in qualifiers. Not much to go on. Watch tote for any clues.

6-TRIGGERHAPPY HERO (10/1)
Gary Rath trainee has missed a few weeks. Three races this year just okay. Needs more.

5-NEVER EXHAUSTABLE (20/1)
Has not been remotely competitive in five lifetime starts. Pass.

RACE 4

7-FREE PARKIN BEHIND (7/2)
Always a big factor at this level. Will be charging home. Like her to roll by the tiring early pacesetters.

1-STEPH'S MELODY (3/1)
Roberts trains and drives. Has the rail and a solid record at Maywood. Finished second last time despite first over journey. Lots to like here.

4-RONNY B GOOD (5/2)
Solid horse at this level. Always has a say in the outcome and that should continue again. Will likely fire for the front. If she gets there in decent shape, it could be all over.

5-MIKAYLA'S ROCKETTE (8/1)
Game effort last time with no cover to finish a close third. Driver needs to find a trip for this gal. Might share.

6-PLEZEN MR HACKER (15/1)
Been gunning for the lead and not having much success. Guessing she tries for front yet again, but needs either an easier first quarter or some more stamina. Outside shot.

2-BUTCHIE LIL TAX (12/1)
Can be competitive in this spot. Should sit behind one horse and hope for the best. Does not show propensity for winning, but could very well be part of tri and/or super.

3-JUST SHUTUP NDRIVE (6/1)
Has tailed off since winning back to back in February. Arrow pointing south on this one. I'll pass.

8-ALYCOLE (15/1)
Outside post probably too much for this one to overcome. Couldn't get it done with inside posts in last two races. Pass.

RACE 5

2-THE JANITOR (5/2)   *** Winner: $3.20  $2.40  $2.40 ***
Gigantic race last week. Parked every step of the way and finished third. Horse likes track with 12 lifetime wins here. An easier trip should be all he needs to get another win. Solid.

8-LOOK TO KILOWATT (8/1)
Looked like this guy had some pace at the end of the race last time. Record does not inspire confidence with just one win in two years. Eight post also an obstacle, but this one did show a spark last week. Maybe this is the bomb to crash the tri and super.

5-WHATSHOULDIDO (7/2)
O for last 35. Does come off a solid second. Can't put this one top, but is in good enough shape to hit the board.

6-SIXXPAK (8/1)
Barn/driver change can't possibly hurt here. Miller from Rath is a huge upgrade, but I don't know if Marcus will make enough of a difference. Does not have much to beat. Keep an eye on tote.

7-DARN SKIPPIE (12/1)
Horse has not done much in last couple, but Oosting always commands respect. Probably need to include this one in your gimmicks.

1-ROLS ROYCE MINDALE (4/1)
Scratched sick from last. Never a good sign. Prior form was nothing to write home about. Despite rail, I don't plan to use.

3-JOANIES IRISH LUCK (12/1)
Has not done anything too inspiring lately. Needs a good trip and some luck. I'll pass.

4-CAPTAIN RICE (15/1)
Move from 8 post has to help, but this one just does not show enough in lines to warrant consideration. Auto toss.

9-FOX VALLEY SIZZLE (15/1)
Has not been close in forever. Impossible to use.

RACE 6

7-MOMENT OF MAGIC (5/2)    *** Winner: $3.20  $2.60  $2.40; 7-8 Exacta: $21.40 ***
Makes 2012 debut off solid two year old campaign. Two qualifiers indicate readiness. Does not have much at all to beat. Can win at half-speed.

8-FALL'S DELIGHT (6/1)
Despite the poor post, this gal figures to be the main threat to the above. Solid race last time, finishing third without cover. If top pick needs a race, this one will be right there.

4-MILTY'S GAL (3/1)
Finished a distant second to runaway winner last week. Winless in 18 lifetime starts, but has finished second or third 12 times. Can't put on top, but need to use underneath.

5-SURE ANYTIME (4/1)
Driver change to Oosting always a plus. Like many in here, struggles to win with an 0 for 17 record coming in to this. Another to try and include in gimmicks.

2-BS SMOKIN ARIZONA (15/1)
0 for 54 lifetime. Did have a nice second two starts back. Will probably duck to the inside and hope for a seam late. Outsider to use in back end of tri/super.

1-COMPLETECOMMITMENT (10/1)
Got romped on by cheaper at BMP. Rail helps cause, but not enough for me.

3-LEAVE IT UPTO ME (8/1)
0 for 17 lifetime. Looked like she had some road trouble in last, but really had not been all that close lately. Auto toss.

6-WAR PIG (12/1)
No match for cheaper at BMP. Looks like an auto toss to me.

RACE 7

4-PEYTON'S PINKY (5/2)   *** Winner: $7.20  $3.40  $2.20 ***
Been competitive in claimers. Good second last week. Guns for the lead and has a good shot to wire 'em.

8-PHOBIC PRINCESS (4/1)
Makes third start off layoff. Closed a ton in last at BMP. Eight post is rough, but this one might be good enough to overcome. Has shot.

2-FOX VALLEY KATRINA (6/1)
Move inside helps. Another that is not a prolific winner by any means, but is plenty good enough to hit the board. Off back to back solid third place finishes.

1-STARRS FLASHY BABE (3/1)
Made a big move and finished a solid fourth last week. Oosting and the rail keeps her in contention. 1 win in last 28 keep me from putting her on top. Use in gimmicks.

5-BABY HOLD ON (15/1)
Has not done much from the outside in last two. Better trip possible, but needs much more to contend.

7-SPUNKY BABY (12/1)
Been racing just so-so since dropping to claimers. Needs much more. Post does not help.

3-LANGTREE LILY (8/1)
Was not close last time. Does not like to win either. Pass.

6-SKITTLES AND MMS (15/1)
Been having breaking issues. Impossible to use. Pass.

RACE 8

1-STAR GAZED (7/2)   *** Winner: $5.20  $2.80  $2.20 ***
Raced like a monster last week and prevailed by a nose. Repeat certainly possible.

3-MS KATE (3/1)
Another that wants the front. Has three front end wins already this year. Hot pace likely. Will need to bring her "A" game tonight.

4-MACKENZIE'S POWER (5/2)
Returns from BMP, where she held her own against tougher. Could pick up pieces late if she fires tonight.

9-CRAZY D COLE (15/1)
Question mark. Lines littered with trainer changes, scratches, qualifiers and cheap fair races. Horse did win 4 times in 14 races last year. Trainer/driver has a solid record. Watch tote for any clues.

2-AMY ELLEN (6/1)
Has not held off a field in a while. Will likely gun for the lead again, but it looks like she's tailing off some. Pass.

8-MS CAMRY (10/1)
Mildly competitive in recent races. Eight post likely too much for her tonight. Pass.

7-VELVET GIRL (12/1)
Was empty last week from the seven post. Reunion with Todd Warren might help, but this is tough task from out here.

5-COLT HONOR (20/1)
Has not been close lately. Toss.

6-SHES ASTREOS (15/1)
0 for last 29. Breaking issues. Toss.

RACE 9

6-FOX VALLEY VISTA (7/2)
Returns from BMP, where he faced tougher. Looks like a soft spot for her. Class should tell.

7-ANNRENEE (3/1)
Returns from HOP. Horse fits well here. Tough post, but Oosting should be able to keep this one in contention throughout. Main threat to the above.

2-FOX VALLEY DINA (12/1)
Did not do much in last from outside post. Might fire for the lead tonight and could be a major factor in here.

8-WINDY CITY JOANN (15/1)
Bad draw yet again for this one. Looks to have some talent, but needs luck from here. Miller has won with this one in the past. Maybe she'll blast and hope for a good early spot.

4-PLACE'N FIRST (5/2)
Scratched sick from last race. Has won the last two times she raced. The scratch scares me away, but this one does appear to have the ability to contend/win again.

1-GIBMEACHEAPTAN (10/1)
Rail might keep her close. Winning race is highly unlikely.

3-CAM'S WARHAWK (6/1)
Has not been far off lately. Needs striking position to be part of this. Gimmick possibility.

5-SIMPLEE PACEFULL (8/1)
Last two have been rather dull. Would need a bigger effort to be a part of this. Pass.

RACE 10

6-SPORTAMANTE (6/1)   *** Winner: $18.60  $6.60  $3.80 ***
Drops to claimers tonight. Had been holding her own against tougher. Will show speed early, likes to win and has a big, big shot tonight.

1-COLE STAR (7/2)
Sheds eight post for the rail. Top driver and a propensity for winning makes this one a solid contender.

8-LIKE YOUR STYLE (9/2)
Tough task from out here, but this gal has been racing very well. With hot early fractions, this one has a legit shot to pick up the pieces.

4-POWER AND PURPOSE (3/1)
Racing like a machine lately. Will gun for the lead and try and wire them. Has big shot if she can get an easy quarter.

2-TILLYFILLY (10/1)
Racing well of late. Will use her good early speed to contend. Gimmick possibility.

3-BUFFY THE SLAYER (12/1)
Comes off a decent race that she figured to need. Will need to build off that to contend in here.

5-NIGHT HOSTESS (8/1)
Dismal efforts in last two. Needs to regain prior form. Outsider.

7-MARJAY DREAMS (15/1)
Coming in to this off a lackluster qualifier. Prior races were dull. Pass.

9-PICKAPLACETOPARK (15/1)
Has not been competitive at all. Toss.

RACE 11

3-SLICKETY SPLIT (9/5)
Needed last week's race. Figures to improve and her class should tell in this spot. Solid.

7-PINFOOT (8/1)
Switch to OO makes this one interesting. With cover, this one has a chance if the 3 needs another tightener.

2-FANCY TOO (6/1)
Has not been close against much tougher in last two. Better spot for this one. Warren has had success with her. Gimmick possibility.

1-CANDY N APPLES (10/1)
Had the rail last week and it did not help her cause. Maybe this time she'll stay inside and hit the board.

4-TRENDY L (15/1)
Has not been very close lately. Pass.

5-STARDOM BOUND (9/2)
Showed some speed in last at BMP, but really has not been close lately. Needs much more.

6-CAM SUNDAY (12/1)
Has not won in ages. Not happening tonight.

8-STONEBRIDGE NUGGET (7/2)
Couldn't get it done with the rail last week. Eight post will be tough to overcome. Doubtful.

RACE 12

3-JUST THE WAY ITIS (3/1)   *** Winner: $6.00  $4.00  $2.80 ***
Coming in to this off three 2nd place finishes in a row. Racing very well and does not have Giddy Up Boy to deal with tonight. Solid chance to get picture taken tonight.

2-WES MANTOOTH (7/2)
Very competitive at this level. Finished a solid third in last and figures to be a major player here.

8-LA CABANA (12/1)
Scratched sick last time. Never a good sign. But, does get Oosting tonight, so you need to respect him. Use in gimmicks.

9-SAMMOBRAND WILLOW (8/1)
Horse romped last time Warren drove. Needs good early position, but I can't rule him out.

1-WOODY'S SHARK BITE (9/2)
Bit of a rough trip for this one in last. Rail and easier voyage can make the difference here.

5-MVP (15/1)
Needs trip to go his way. Might find a way to land in the Super.

4-COLTINS PLACE (15/1)
Scratched sick in last. Not a good sign. Toss.

6-MASTER JEEVES (6/1)
Recent races are dull. Needs much more.

7-OUTGRAYGEOUS Z TAM (12/1)
Poor recent efforts combined with tough post. Pass.
