Now granted, there were only 4 races today but the total handle for those 4 gems at Thunder Ridge was $94.

For that $94, track gets maybe 25% which equals $23.50.  With that $23.50 they have to have a judge, starter, someone at a pari-mutual window, a security guard & possible a couple of programs.  And then the big expense: they have to put gas in the starting car & pay someone to drive it!

Went and looked at it.
Who bets the 93 dollars?

Guess I am unlike some I think its great they are racing. Whatever it is.

Do they have a teller?

At least they post the pools.

Is there some story behind this track?

Harness racing at its best!

This is great. I wonder if its like hill billies.

The open runs for 1200. I hope they get slots money.

It's sort of romantic, don't you think?  Holds up to 350 people & "only" 10 miles from the Inn.  Ya gotta love it!  Word is Pena is banned.  beard

Yes there is. If they continue this charade of harness racing, they hope to get a bill passed for them to have a casino in the place in the very near future. The owner of the place has a US state senator in their pockets. How cozy and exciting to know.

The day the bill is passed, I am sure there will be a big fat envelope waiting for Sen R J Palmer in his office.

Its all about big business and how deep your pockets are.

Actually  the reason they have to race is to enable them to take in simulcast betting.  That is source of income for the purses also.  i believe in Kentucky, you must have live racing in order to operate as a simulcast center.

A Thunder Ridge story. About 10 tears ago before I was married and had kids  I had this wild idea I was going to visit every harness track in the U.S.A  Knowing I would be down in
Lexington for the Red Mile I figure out I can make it to Thunder Ridge  in a couple of hours. Drive
2 hours east heading into appalachia country pull up to the track get out of the car,get to the gate
and greeted by a sign that says TRACK CLOSED VET IS SICK. They closed the track because the vet
was sick, could not believe it. Got in my car and went back to the hotel. True story

Absolutely.

There is also a physician AKA peoples doctor in attendance too and if for some reason the peoples or horses doctor isn't there the races will be canceled. That goes for every track in the country.
A place like Thunder Ridge probably doesn't have a stand by.

back years ago, stable I was associated with thought about taking mine and a couple theirs down for a Sunday for something different. Guy who was driving at Scioto and going down there asked if we had gotten approval to drop in the box. We called the office and they said they would drop our names by the Horse reps and they would call us back. They never called, and luckily we never went. Did hear the judge is the starter in the car. They at times also never had a state guy there to do drug testing so bring your needles.

You sound like "Cousin Vinny", "the whole store got the flu so I wore this for you".

Most state laws require a licensed vet to be in attendance before any racing may take place.

Another weird old law was the requirement of two ambulances, because one was needed as a backup while the other could have been in-transit.

"Balls-on" accurate, Don.  It's an industry term.

Thunder Ridge cracked the $100 barrier today, handling $104.  Now I axe ya', is there a Chinese Restaurant in the area?  At least I'm wearin' boots.

Sinclair not happy camper. He is losing his ass on the track.

Pressure is on the US state senator to get the job done.

He listened to the ethics committee and abstained from voting in 2009 because of the conflict of interest thingee with him being on the payroll of the track owner. This time its different he says. I guess he means he will throw caution to the wind and not worry about ethics no more.

Talk about a crooked politician.

$87 today.  Good thing they ran an Open Hcp as about 40% of the big pool came in that one race.  But I'm sure many people got shut out due to crowding at the windows.
