Thalberg 2:20 the noted western‑bred trotter which toured considerably, was credited with 208 heats in 2:30 and faster. He was really a one‑man horse, the fall of a whip on his ribs meant nothing to him, but when the veteran, C. C. Bates, thought his record not endangered, he gave the gelding's tail a peculiar twist and an instant increase in speed resulted.
