Looks like Hawthorne and other tracks take a hit with Sunday racing in the fall.  With the NFL, sports betting, and fantasy leagues being so popular, it might be a good idea to vacate live racing on that day.  Maybe it might be better to see if permission can be gained from the harness tracks to do a night program on Sunday.
Ask permission from the harness track? Why?Thoroughbreds are 2/3 of the handle(live and simulcast).Seems as though the harness shouls seek permission to run.

Because that is the way the law allowing simulcasting was written.  For there to be a Thoroughbred race after 6:30 pm, it must be approved by the nearest harness racetrack.  It works the same way when they want to race an afternoon doubleheader.

That I think your your idea is poorly thought out.

So by that reasoning, ideas or opinions that you do not agree with should be ridiculed or argued out of existence.  Of course, that is your method of operation on this and other forums for years.  This attitude sure promotes the exchange of thoughts, doesn't it?

I think the real reason for your passion in this discussion centers around the word Hawthorne.  That is the word you saw in my first post and that started the furious replies.  You assumed that there was something sinister in the post.

It was just a thought about racing in general that I thought may be of value.  I don't even go to Arlington on a Sunday in the fall.  You see, I watch football, baseball, or do something outside.  I am sure you do not see, your view is very narrow.  Have a nice day.

As you just said, the forum is an exchange of thoughts. That means you post yours, and others respond. Sometimes, when you post an idea that seems ridiculous, others will ridicule it. It's not your personal soapbox, where you can post any old thing and no one says a word.

Furious? You're the one getting all exercised, not me.

A valuable idea unsupported by anything? Uh huh.

Just a thought in general, but you had to mention Hawthorne's name specifically. And go further to state your idea was based on your brief look at Hawthorne's handle. And somehow this thought didn't percolate to the surface until Hawthorne's meet even though the NFL season has been going on for four weeks now.  Roll Eyes

Here's my "thought"  - this was no more than your biannual transparent clucking about Hawthorne's handle numbers that starts the first weekend of every Hawthorne meet without fail. You can't defend the flimsy suggestion it was cloaked behind in any way, shape, or form, other than saying "can't a guy have an opinion?" IMHO that is because the idea was, as I said, poorly thought out, because there was no real "idea" in the first place.

Ah, I got my answer!  The issue was about Hawthorne and nothing else.  For your information, I have been posting about Arlington's handle or lack of all summer.  You even answered my question about locating the WPS pool on Equibase, so you know I have been looking at handles.

In earlier days I did bash Hawthorne, but I refrain from doing much of that anymore since I have seen the effort put forth by them and, epecially Jim Miller.  I also look at Arlington and CD somewhat differently and I have posted such.  I have expanded my outlook, but apparently you still live in the past.

It's exactly what you made it - nothing but your annual clucking about their handle, wrapped up in an incredibly poorly thought and transparent idea, which was incredibly easy to see through.

I saw no brilliant ideas for them to abandon any days of racing when NFL season came around or any other time they had bad handle.

Uhhhh .... I've been looking at Equibase charts and handle numbers since well before anyone cared about the big Magna boycott, so I know what numbers are in the charts, yes. As for what's specifically in there for Arlington or Hawthorne, only when someone here makes some outlandish, ignorant, or obviously ill-informed claim that begs for figures to be checked or verified.

No, no, you do. You're the one living in the past. Nyah nyah nyah.

I understand the "splits" quite well.My point is the tbreds bring in so much more, that the harness would be fools not to allow it,conversely,if harness wants to run in the day,Arlington and Hawthorne won't take a hit if they say no.

Sorry, Joe, I started this post with a legitimate observation which I never stated as fact.  As usual, Terry totally misread it and took it as an attack on Hawthorne and on and on it went.  Must be my week again to babysit him.

Sorry Joe, Dan made a mess of it with his ultra-thin skin and total lack of any sense of humor, yet again. Need to remember to humor the slow oldster.
