Comfy Tie For DDSP ?

I saw this ad a while back and wondered if anyone had used them. If they worked they would be a great help for all those suspected chokers/flippers. They cost about $16 for 4 of them so i would give them a shot but i wondered if they really help, looks like a modern leather tongue tie with the loop in the middle but with a different way of putting them on.

  Good info on DDSP, thanks for posting.  I always preferred the old leather tongue ties.  Seemed like they would be more comfortable for the horse. Looks like the leather tongue tie would be similar to this new contraption. 
   Once again, though, we have the problem of factory line rig em up and get them on the track with as little effort as possible.  No one is going to spend money on something like this that's going to get easily misplaced when one is running around  trying to paddock multiple races.  Cheaper/easier to keep a couple stockings or pieces of baling twine ( !!!  which is what I observed a fella using one night) in your pocket.  Shame.

I'm ordering some to try on a horse that has a cyst on his palate, he's running them over to the 3/4 because apparently they "can't hold him" and then shutting down. Funny that I never have a problem with him under saddle, but I do have what is commonly referred to as "hands." LOL.

We have been using Comfy-Tie for almost a year now. After having one of our horses diagnosed with DDSP our vet recommended we become part of a clinical trial of a tongue tie designed particularly for our horse's problem. She had flipped her palate in her first four starts and stopped badly finishing last or next to last. Our first race with the Comfy-Tie she finished third mainly because of traffic problems but at least she didn't stop like she had been. Her next start she finished second beaten a head, then she had two straight wins! The first win was MSW and the second was an allowance race beating colts.

I have since done a bit of studying on DDSP as well as talking to a couple of the vets that were doing the clinical trials. As I understand it the new tie is flat and wide across the tongue and reinforced on top to hold the tongue FLAT in the caudal groove. Normally tied tongues bunch up between the tie and the epiglottis and sometimes the bunching up or billowing (as they called it) actually causes the DDSP.

Everything in our barn now uses the Comfy-Tie and we are firm believers. I'm just wondering why it took so long to address this problem...

Years ago i used nothing but the leather tongue ties. I'd seen some big outfits use stockings and it seemed to work. You know-follow success. One night our "big horse" was in and I didn't have a tie with me. It happens. So I'm running around trying to find one. The owners were there and asked me what was the matter. I told them I needed something for a tongue tie, even a stocking. Owner's daughter said she would get one for me. She went into the back of the stall, came out, and gave me the pair she was wearing. And said, "you can have these and everything else that goes with them".

Horse won that night and I didn't do too bad either.

What a great way to meet girls. That eventually became ex-wives.
