Shannon Brough of Salem, Ind., bested a field of more than 3,300 competitors to finish first in last weekend’s free “TVG Online Challenge” handicapping tournament. Brough amassed a runaway winning total of $184.20 in the May 14 contest that required competitors to make mythical $2.00 win and place wagers on 10 mandatory races that took place at Belmont Park, Monmouth Park and Hollywood Park. Brough will now receive a guaranteed berth in the $2 million (estimated) Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship Presented by Sovereign Stable (NHC) next January in Las Vegas. Brough will also receive roundtrip air travel and hotel accommodations at Treasure Island Las Vegas, site of the NHC.
Also gaining an NHC berth and a free trip to Treasure Island were second-place finisher Nancy Sedin ($143.80) of Huntley, Ill., and third-place finisher Junior Wong ($142.30) of Copiague, N.Y.
