Question to those of you who track this sort of stuff, how is AP's handle so far this season? Have we seen any increases with the larger fields?

Nothing scientific, but it seems like the large fields went the way of the buffalo about 2 weekends ago

My math (I used the database on this page http://ww2.equineline.com/AWStats/ap_Awstats.asp) says field size is averaging 8.5 horses through yesterday.  Saturday looks light but Sunday is back up over 8.5 again.

Latest purse report includes the Sunday that was cancelled after 2 races. Appears daily total on live card is about 1% off from last yr. On track and intrrtrack even or slightly up. Not too bad considering Derby day wagering this year was much lower.

What is my forte?  It is not handle, as I am always missing secret sources of handle out there.  As far as what Joe says about the handle, a flat handle is not bad right now.  We will have to see how things go as we get into the summer.

Watched AP card on HRTV. Observation--- the Out of state handle just doesn't seem to exist on Wednesday. Handle on full field race ( with 75-1 winner) about same as 6/7 horse fields. Interested to see if Thursday do better.

2nd- they tried to do an all turf pick 5 today. That meant that by going  off turf the integrity of the entire card was damaged. I appreciate the effort but given the weather last 3/4 years, this effort should wait for the last half of the met. The races that came off were lousy and the handle worsened as these races occurred.
