When calling/contacting the Gov,tell him to sign AS PASSED.Any change, even if track slots are not affected will doom the bill.

The slots at the fairs were only supported by 2 representatives, it doesnt carry much clout other than with the two who requested that amendment be put in the bill to garner their support. After listening to the Governor yesterday, this is a major deal breaker with him. Hes NOT against slots at the tracks nor against a casino in Chicago. As of this writing.... the casinos are flooding the phone lines and e-mails with opposition to the bill. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that you e-mail and write the Governor a letter requesting that he sign sb 744 for horseracing . To not participate in this simply means you dont care if horse racing no longer exists in Illinois...Please dont let the casinos beat us for the last and FINAL time!!!!!!!

Also spoke with one of new chgo alderman who basically said the same. This person has had a long term association with Quinn and feels the airport slots is a concern. But is OK with slots at track and Chitown casino.
Therefore even more reason to continue to call Quinn.

There must have been a lot of pressure to get the casino in Chicago. I live in Elgin, (no I don't go to the Grand Vic ever) and Noland voted PRESENT for the casino bill.

I wrote to the Springfield address mentioned in this thread. The Arlington Park website has a different address. I assume it will get there either way.

Seems like more groups are listing the Springfield address, that's what Arlington has too so they may have changed it.

Anyone find it ironic that almost immediately after the slot bill was passed and held by Cullerton that Quinn began sending out letters soliciting donations for his re-election campaign? Sounds like he should perhaps be sharing the spotlight with Blago....

Moops is just a trool Dan preying on people like us who actually give a sh*t about Illinois Horse Racing...pretty low on the food chain in my mind and I usually take the high road, even with a-holes.

Yes, you do and it had better be a positive say. Otherwise, your groom days may be over at Fairmount and anywhere else in Illinois.

Unstick this thread. It was and is a waste of time and paper to send anything to this Governor. Maybe you can retitle it as letters to the legislature if that will do any good.

I REPEAT: UNSTICK THIS THREAD! This thread was established with the idea that a mind can be changed with logic. We now know that mind was closed to us all along and all this writing/calling was a waste of time. The subject line of this thread is a cruel joke and needs to disappear. Please!

I know we've been asked to write and call our legislators and the Governor countless times in the last couple of years.
It's tough to keep rallying the troops. There will be naysayers on here who will say we are wasting our time. And who knows, maybe we are. But isn't trying to save our business better than giving up?
We could not have gotten SB744 passed without the calls to legislators, let's not forget that. They HEARD us, and the bill passed the General Assembly.
We have a human roadblock in the form of the Governor. He says the public is on his side. Quite simply, that's bullshit.
Let's all call. Be polite but firm in your convictions. Horsemen and bettors alike. In state or out of state. When I called both offices yesterday they didn't even ask where I live. A minute of your time and a few cents for the call. Well worth it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again now: there is no quit in an Illinois horseman. Please prove me right and call.
Thanks

Emphasize that this bill helps horsemen: it ends recapture, it guarantees live racing dates
There is agriculture funding: state and county fairs, 4-H, conservation
Illinois horsemen are united in support of this bill, we need longterm growth to rebuild our breeding industry.

What a joke. Down here in bumblemuck Southern Illinois, rowdy bars have slot machines that pay and nobody does anything to stop it because the officials are all crooked.

This failed Governor needs to go! He has done nothing for racing and more importantly, he has done nothing for the state economy as well. Illinois is coming apart at the seams yet clowns like this keep getting re-elected.

Appears current hang -up is that Gov. insists on ethics provisions , including a contribution ban, and the Legislators want to keep collecting big contributions from the gaming industry. Politics and Greed in Illinois.
Looks like Gov. has a valid argument . Ethics should be paramount.
May be time to lay the blame on the Senators and Representatives.

There used to be a contribution ban many years ago, why was it removed? Lang said during debate yesterday that there is a question of constitutionality.
Of course other articles seem to say it is only certain contributions that are a problem.

This was posted yesterday, but wanted to bump it up. Everyone get on this site and let Gov. Quinn know that we need for him to sign the bill as passed. http://www2.illinois.gov/gov/Pages/ContacttheGovernor.aspx I called today and asked to speak with him...Of course he was not available but the girl who answered was in his staff and said she would document my concerns..I went on for a good 10 minutes emphasizing the fact that my family and friends are democrat voters and we feel that he has turned his back on his democratic constituents and he needs to sign this bill and or a stand alone ADW bill...She said she has received a few calls today like mine so we need everyone who reads this to take 5 min and call...Let's put some pressure on him!
