The canadian pick 4's are not really a good bet for americans.  In canada,  they have a minimum 20 cent wager for the pick 4 while americans betting through the ADW's must bet $1 minimum.  This gives the canadian a big advantage since they can spread out and cover a lot more combinations.  consequently, when do you get a long shot, the payoff are smaller due to that.  The pick 3 is a better play because of the even playing field with canadian bettors.  but their take out is high.

The payoffs for the p-4 at Woodbine can be very large sometimes like last night (April 11) there was a payoff for $34340 with the pool being $73260. Either one guy got it for a dollar with 3 .20 cents tickets or 8 fellas got it for .20 cents ($6868 a piece) for a total of $1.60.

The Woodbine pick 4's are a so much more better bet than the pick 3 it's not even close.  Most of the Woobine pick 3's have about a $4,000 pool...before the takeout.  The pick 4 payouts have been great, either the .20 players aren't very good handicappers or not that many people play it for .20  because most every pick 4 payout has been higher than I was expecting.

I guess there is a lot of ways to look at things.  I am not a big bettor, so at a dollar a pop, I usually limit my combinations.   One example was yesterday,  I hit a pick 3 with just 2 winners because one winner paid $50.  But the pick 4 was hit multiple times.  yes it is true that it still paid well.  but the payoff posted is for one dollar.  I can't help but wonder how many fewer winning tickets there would be if not for the 20 cent bets.
