Don't know much about these days, but use to be if you could make your way to the backside, somebody was always looking for a hotwalker. Some paid by the head, like 3-5 bucks, and some salaried, like $250.00wk and a little on the side for races. Good hotwalkers did other things in the barn as well, depending on the outfit, and level of experience. They were usually first in line to get in the stall when a groom was needed, but some preferred to just hotwalk, take life easy doing whatever, unlike a groom. Go to stablegate, and inquire, post a sign, or ask security for advice. Some tracks used to announce over the PA that someone was waiting there for a job, and someone usually always came and signed ya in.....
