DRF Bets Tournament League to debut as a qualifier for DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship
New York, NY (March 29, 2011) – On April 1, Daily Racing Form (Daily Racing Form LLC) will launch The 2011 DRF Bets Tournament League – a monthly handicapping contest in April, May and June providing players an opportunity to win a seat at the DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas. This marks the first time that Daily Racing Form has held a qualifying tournament for the NHC, for which the company is title sponsor.
The DRF Bets Tournament League features a series of monthly, live-money contests, with the top finisher receiving a trip to Las Vegas in January 2012 to play in the NHC. To participate, contestants will use their DRF Bets wagering account to make a $2 live win wager on DRF.com’s designated “Race of the Day” every Wednesday through Sunday for each calendar month. Free DRF past-performances are available on DRF.com. The player with the highest earnings at the end of each month will win a seat at the NHC. Past performance packages will be awarded for each month’s top 10 finishers.
“As part of Daily Racing Form’s expanded mission to attract new fans to horse racing, we’ve developed a Tournament League that is accessible to the serious and casual player alike,” said John J. Hartig, CEO. “We are thrilled to qualify horseplayers to Las Vegas where they can compete for the $1 million dollar grand prize. As title-sponsor, we are proud to expand our contributions to this event.”
The DRF/NTRA National Handicapping Championship will award $2 million dollars in prize money, with $1 million dollars going to the grand prize winner. Daily Racing Form has been the sole title sponsor of this event since its inception in 2000. Since that time, the total prize pool has grown from $200,000 to the current $2 million.
