IRB says okay to Niles OTB

What is your alternative suggestion to the OTB's, Dan? Stay home and not bet at all? Start betting on the Internet and kill the local purses? Go out to the track, but only the once a month when we have the time to make the trip?

NO !! Don't bet on the internet. They should close them all down.

Janine has this additional news item up, a story from the local Niles paper. Some extra details to the OTB license approval story.

As expected, "Mr. Arlington" Dennis Bookshester was the only IRB member to vote against the OTB license. Glad I saved my 37 cents!

One Niles resident against the OTB is real bright and thinks there is a gambling facility in Evanston.

But best of all is this:

"Cliff Goodrich, president of Arlington Rack Track, said he was opposed to the potential loss of revenue at Arlington Park if a Niles OTB opens. He said that, in a survey of Arlington Park's "most ardent betters," 58 percent said they would attend a Niles OTB, 21 percent said they would go to Niles instead of Arlington Park, and 28 percent would attend live racing less if an OTB were in Niles."

HEY CLIFF!!! Do you think your "most ardent betters" might be telling you something about your facility and the service you offer them?

Heh! Heh!  Does he still think the value of a day at Arlington should still start at $6 just to enter the facility.  I trust it won't cost $6 just to enter the new Niles OTB.  Market's been telling them it isn't for years.  Maybe this will finally stimulate change.  What is even a sharper stick is that AP could have been the one to open that parlor in Niles for the convivence and keeping of those patrons, and they could still hang on more of their money, but they didn't so they could keep the fans making the longer, non-expressway trip all the way to AP and then keeping gouging them for the $6 admission.   Yup message sent.  Message ignored (at least previously).  Opportunity left and knocked on another door.
