Just browsing ahead of schedule and found this in the Sept 16, 1964 Harness Horse:

A. J. Foyt, a lad who can apprently drive anything with wheels to victory, turns back his rival of recent years at the Indianapolis Speedway, Parnelli Jones, by a half-length in a special match-race on Hoosier Fuurity Day. Foyt drive Redstone Ranger and Jones was up behind Pokey in the event, clocked in a slow 2:351/5.

I am guessing they were in the 2 seat sulkies with drivers?
Sounds like a great promotion though. Sport needs more promotion always.

3wide,
The photo was rather small and not great quality, even though and because I was just browsing issues ahead of itenerary, I did not scan the image.

Each driver was alone in the bike.

2:35 on the mile track at Indianapolis, likely not much more than a jog.

They didn't use two seat sulkies or jog carts back then.

Awesome. Most stars wouldn't take the chance of being in the sulky alone nowadays. I cant imagine seeing Jeff Gordan behind a horse now. Too much chance of an accident. The times sure have changed. And it is probably not for the better.

You know Lyndon Johnson was once at Rosecroft. You ever hear about this or have any info on it?
That id love to read or hear about. Of course this is well before my time but some of the old timers told me about this.

 3wide,
I've seen this photo, however don't recall if it's in an issue that is awaiting my attention and that I've browsed previously, or something I've just seen some where.

I've a solitary references to "Lyndon Johnson" in my data and it was not at Rosecroft.

Thanks. Maybe it will come up sometime.
Lots of history. But I am guessing that's the only time a sitting president came to a harness track.
If you come across anything Id love to see it.
