Is this a possibility? I read a story that if the proposed legislation passes, QCD gets 900 slot machines and would re-open. From the video the place looks like it would take millions in repairs just to open.

Duchossois would do ANYTHING to get slots, even open up QCD if he has to. And you better believe me, he will only race the minimum days required.

I'm sure the grandstand and clubhouse are in okay shape, but they tore down the barns. Guess they don't expect this thing to pass.

They don't need any barns. Just make everybody ship in to race. The barns were torn down 15-20 years ago.

SB3970 calls for 240 races, with an average of 12 races per card. So, a nice 10 week meet, racing on weekends, ship in only. Build a 120 stall race paddock, fix the track, upgrade the lighting. Not a bad trade-off for getting 900 slot machines operating 365 days a year.

Wasn't Aurora Downs formerly Fox Fields? Or is my memory getting that bad?

Aurora Downs was named Fox Fields by Gillilan who ran a harness meet there. Balmoral was named Lincoln Fields.

IF, that were to happen, they would have to tear down the existing grandstand,(upper floors are junk) and build a new one.....which IF this were to happen, would take about 1 month...LOL....How old does Duchoisosisosis have to be by now? 137? QCD for a summer of slot highlighted purses would be a lot of fun....if nothing else.

All will be fixed if slots come.  They could wreck the place and build a new casino track.  The track part could accommodate 500 and that would be more than enough.  Not going to happen though.

Mel, they would only close the upper floors and use the main floor. Doubt there would be 300 people there. Especially with the economy. Just build a new bigger building in the parking lot for the casino people. There is a lot of parking space there. Can't imagine that a racetrack that hasn't had races in over what 15-20 years and has torn down the barn area and sold/leased the land, would STILL qualify for consideration of being an actual racetrack to get the slots. What a "GREAT" state. STILL the most corrupt state in the country.

Well, the original paddock is still in place....yes the backside is completely gone but isnt a big deal. As far as room or whatever for a full card paddock, there is room for most anything to the west (former quarter horse chute)....I go there twice a year and while I stated my opinion, i doubt there would be much trouble to get it ready, even if they tore it down. I would disagree with the 300 a day thing tho, Supe....they closed in 1993 and it would be fun for a short meet on weekends....they most likely still wouldnt handle all that much, but again, as stated, it would be fun. beer

Me too, it would be more like 225.
I remember the 1992-93 meets quite well, they were betting more on the QCD cards at Fairmount than they were on-track.
