Personally I think the projections look awesome. Also for those of you interested....I noticed Harrahs is taking applications for the race secretary position.

Maybe Paul could be race secretary since he knows so much!!
I think its ridiculous - now the horses have to deal with mosquitos AND flies
And what kind of horses are they going to have - where are all these horses going to come from? Pocono can't even fill their cards now

I sure hope the outside fence is tall and strong! About the first time one chokes down, goes through thefence, and into the water, someone's family would be rich!
Mel Turcotte went through the outside fence at Northfield. The was an 8 foot dropoff from the track level to the bottom. He really got banged up. Of course, back then no one sued anyone.

I can tell you this about Chester Downs. I was stationed in the Navy right down the river from Chester Pa. and I spent 3 months at Sun Shipyard the actual site where Chester Downs is sitting now. There is toxic material in the ground that is too dangerous to dig up without further polluting the Delaware river. Also the neighborhood in Chester is as bad as it gets. God forbid anyone breaks down there, your life will be on the line. I believe that the track itself was just a ploy to get the casino. I don't know where they'll get the horses from to race there because it will be all ship ins. I wish them well and hope they succeed but I can't see it.

I know many of the better trainers in MD are looking into property up in PA. Whether any of the stock is any good from MD to race up once slot money hits the purses there is another story. Maryland is in horrible shape they race like 3 nights a week and nightly purses for about 10 races on average 35k. Who cares for the reasons behind why they built the track as long as it promotes the harness industry. The projections look beautiful and I'm sure they looked into the bridge thing before they built it. Rumors were going around that they weren't going to let horsemen from DE in to race there because of how nasty DE is about letting out of state horsemen in. I stress that that is a rumor I heard. Then again the racetracks are full of rumors.

What about all those training facilities in South Jersey...lotsa horses looking to race on a 5/8ths less than 45 minutes away..the word is the slots at that track won't be running till the end of 2007 at the earliest. I also agree with whoever said the track was a way to get the slot license.

yeah - the f-ing crooks can't decide how to split up the bribe money. they can't decide which middle men are going to get the contracts on the machines and since everyone is getting paid off by different people, and the vote has to be unanimous, they will never agree until they all get their palms greased.what a frucking joke the slots won't be up and running till late '07 due to politics

you are right phlem...about three weeks ago the Pa Senate ammended the slots bill to take out the provision that required pa owned slot distributors (middlemen)..This would expedite the whole process...It easily passed. They adjourned for 45 minutes and the folks in line to be the distributors started twisting arms...The Senate re-convened and put the pa owned distributors back in the law...Wait and see who these middlemen end of being.
