I have often wonder why a stallion feels the need to checkout every manure pile in his pen?
Ive noticed that mine every time he does this, then he goes over to the nearest geldings at both ends of his pen  and pins his ears.

Whats he saying to them ?
something like?

"dont even think about messen with my chit man"

From what Kerry Thomas has taught me from his wild horse research...horses smell manure piles to identify what other horses have visited the spot.

Alvin does that and he is gelded, but very studdy....I don't know if they gelded him late or that's just how he is, but when someone else has been in his field he immediately checks the "piles." Upon sniffing he pins his ears, arches his neck and squeals....strikes out, rears up....all of that good stuff.
