Live USA Breeders Crown Coverage For Australia
08 October 2010
"Live" Action Racing from North America Sunday Morning
Australian harness racing fans and punters alike enter a new phase of action this weekend.
Harness Racing Australia in conjunction with Sky Channel and the TAB organisations throughout the country will beam “Live” action from North America on Sunday morning.
And it’s not just any meeting.
The meeting being showcased is the US$6 million Breeders Crown raceday from Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania.
Races will be covered live on Sky2 with the first race scheduled at 8am (AEDT) whilst TABCORP, NSW TAB and UNITAB are wagering on 12 of the 14 races.
Heading up the Sky2 coverage is Bill Hutchinson and Gareth Hall who will provide an expansive coverage on this star-studded program.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is a five furlong track that is conducive for very fast times and is the current home for Australian born reinsman Andrew McCarthy.
The meeting features an all-star cast of equine heroes whilst the biggest names in the business as far as trainers and drivers are concerned are also in action.
Downunder fans have become so accustomed to names like John Campbell, Ron Pierce, Tim Tetrick, George Brennan, Brian Sears, Yannick Gingras, Dan Dube, Jody Jamieson plus Andy and Dave Miller and these champion drivers are all part of the action.
Training legends like Jimmy Takter, Chuck Sylvester, Steve Elliot, Larry Remmen, Casie Coleman, Ron Burke, Ray Schnittker, George Teague, Noel Daley, Chris Ryder, Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman are all represented with runners at the program.
A total of 108 horses are seeking Breeders Crown fame and some of the match-ups in the respective finals are simply stunning.
The most anticipated final is the US$500,000 3yo Colts and Geldings Final where recent Little Brown Jug champion Rock N Roll Heaven clashes with his arch rival One More Laugh.
The Bruce Saunders trained Rock N Roll Heaven has swept all before this season and easily won his elimination last week in 1.49.1 whilst the Ray Schnittker trained One More Laugh also won his elimination last week in 1.50.
One More Laugh beat Rock N Roll Heaven in the US$1 million Meadowlands Pace earlier this season.
Rock N Roll Heaven will be available to Australian breeders next season after a deal was finalised recently with owner Frank Bellino and Pepper Tree Farm in New South Wales.
Another highly anticipated clash will be the US$500,000 Breeders Crown Open Pace with the all conquering Shark Gesture locking horns again with the Ron Burke trained duo of Won The West and Foiled Again.
Won The West is the defending Open Pace champion after scoring last year at the Meadowlands.
Shark Gesture had progeny sell earlier this year at the Australian Yearling Sales throughout the country.
Another ‘epic’ showdown is expected in the US$500,000 3yo Colts and Geldings Trot Final with Lucky Chucky and Muscle Massive set to dominate the betting markets.
Muscle Massive won the US$1.5 million Hambletonian whilst Lucky Chucky turned the tables in the CA$970,000 Canadian Trotting Classic and victory in the Breeders Crown Final will secure seasonal honours.
John Campbell will partner Luck Chucky for trainer Chuck Sylvester whilst Ron Pierce will handle Muscle Massive for training genius Jimmy Takter.
Campbell, is the all-time leader with 44 Breeders Crown victories to his credit as a driver.
Another highlight for Australian fans is the US$600,000 2yo Colts and Geldings Final, the fancied Foreclosure N has strong Australian breeding links being a son of champion sire Rocknroll Hanover out of the Fake Left mare Pleasing Package.
Pleasing Package was bred and raced by leviathan Queensland based owners Kevin and Kay Seymour.
Mark Steacy trains Foreclosure N whilst leading money winning driver Tim Tetrick will take the drive.
This is a first for Australians to watch and bet ‘Live’ on North American harness racing and with good support could easily be the first of many more meetings to come.
