What could possibly be the best idea ever,
this must be one heck of an idea.

Maryland racing, in the midst of decline, the revenue is down, Pimlico looks like a housing project in one of chicago's bad neighborhoods,
what can be done to secure the continuation of the triple crown series while causing as little
problems with horsemen around the country.

MOVE THE PREAKNESS TO ARLINGTON PARK.

there you have it ,

the best idea ever.............

its a great venue, beautifull and clean,
in the center of the country,
no home town favoritism
east and west meet at a neutral venue.
it removes the Maryland racing problem, and puts chicago in the center of racings triple crown
which could only put life into arlingtons dirt racing schedule

And instead of a blanket of black eyed Susans to the winner, they could produce a black eyed "Rosie".

This has been suggested before, could either be doen with transferring the Preakness Stakes itself to AP or by just by annointing an AP stakes as the middle race with Churchills and Belmonts blessings (couldn't be too hard to get Churchill to get on board I imagine) and tie them in with a big bonus.

Don't see it happening though - would basically cause an out and out war between Magna and the rest of the racing world again.

Great idea, but too much tradition and pride in keeping this race in Maryland.  This would never get done.  Love the thought!

The main problem here is that the Preakness is a valuable Magna property, and they're not going to turn it over to a track that belongs to their #1 competitor.

If Magna moves the Preakness out of Pimlico at all, my first guesses are Laurel, then Gulfstream, then MAYBE Santa Anita.

Gulfstream will never ever get it. They will never get the Breeders Cup also. No where to put anyone. Laurel is not real alternative. So, that leaves SA. In reality, it will not move unless Maryland racing goes under.

Pimlico is just like Hawthorne built around a bad city. Clockerterry knows he must be a bad egg.

Lone Star has been mentioned as a possibility.

SA going Poly prolly in 2007. lets see run a tough race in Kentucky and then ship cross country in two weeks to run at SA, run another tough race then ship back across the country and run another tough race at Belmont.

You ain't gonna make too many friends among the horsemen with that kinda sked.

I hesitate to ask, but ... what does that have to do with this subject?

Another place with space problems, unless they put up temp seating. That track is very uncomfortable when the least bit crowded.

Being the traditionalist I am, hell no, don't move it.  Hawthorne's not in nearly as bad of a neighborhood.  Anyone go to Churchill Downs lately?
