Skinny horse

Last wk I had a trotter given to me.
I have seen many sad things with horses.
This horse blood counts all pointed to a horse starving to death.
Monocytes so high has to be full of parrasites.
I have started the worming process and he is now eating good.
I will have his teeth done in the next wk or so.
I also put him on fasttrack.
Love to hear your comments.

I would double paste worm now and then in another month use a differnt type and just use a single dose. Ramp up their grain so has to not founder them. Free choice hay as much as they want/will eat. Add Go Max or Red Cell and corn oil to their grain.

He has really picked up weight.
He has bite and kick marks all over him from where ever he was kept.
The ranch he was at the rumor was he quit eating.
When a horse get the snot kicked an beat out of him from other horses I guess it is pretty hard to eat.
The people who bred this horse were also very upset at his condition.
He is coming a long. Has been gaining weight and eats real good.
I would like to bring him to you folks he is a huge nice trotter.
I am sure disgusted with the attitude of some owners and trainers at Calexpo. They sure need a new attitude.

Amazing what worming open pasture and probios redcell and equine senior do for a horse.
This guy is picking up weight and galloping and trotting around the pasture and now is beating the shit out of the fat horse I put out their with him to teach him to eat.
The fat horse lives on that pasture all year only 3 or 4 months out of the year does he get any thing but pasture.
I guess the skinny horse is pizzed at the fat horses. I guess he thinks he is eating all the pasture.

the before pictures I am ashamed to post the before but he was hair and bones with battle scars all over him he fell off the trailer he was so weak.i dont think he would have lasted much longer.
But I would be proud as hell to post the after.

What is so funny I took him back to the vet who pulled his blood and stood their with him Doc says "what are you doing with that horse here?"
I said "Doc dont you recognize a dieing horse when you see him?"
Doc say "I never saw that horse before"
I said "oh yes you have"
Doc gets this big smile on his face and says "amazing what food and worming do for a horse"
One other vet that also saw him when I showed her him with both cried like babies.
Sometimes our Maker gives us opportunities to make a difference and I am glad He gave me this one.

Quick question....are you including a daily dewormer in his feeding regimen now or just the regular bi-monthly rotationals? I know the daily Strongid-type pellet dewormers are pretty popular with trainers out here, but I have been reluctant to try them since I have this (maybe unfounded) fear of "over worming". At the same time I know that horses like yours who have had severe parasitic infestations are prone to colic and other digestive issues and it may be beneficial to them....just wondering.

Because I race with these people.I am sickened that I am in a business that humans can allow this to be done to a horse.
The nice thing about it now they no I am watching  so they wont let it happen to another horse. I only give horsemen like this one chance and that is probably to many.
I was told I should have put the horse down and he was dieing.
He is back jogging and is a few wks out from Qualifying.
The greatest compliment I have is knowing from the horse himself to see his eyes lift when he sees that track.
When i watch him jog he is more gorgeous than any Frisian cart horse.He has such a beautiful way of going.I am so proud to watch him.If he doesnt race that will be just fine too.
I rode him once across my pasture before he went back to the track and my God what power.

No I have him on no daily wormer.
He is always on ulcer medicine and his diet is watch very close.
(I think) I am not at the track as I have to work and pay the bills.
So I can only trust in the trainer.

By the way BTW this was Hydropedes and he raced Friday in the first race at Calexpo and was second.

This horses is the one to be admired.
They day he came to me he fell of the trailer he was so weak I dont he would have lasted any more than a wk or two.
The heart and spirit of this wonderful animal when given a chance    is what is to be admired thousand of years of breeding that brings us race horses the spirit of never give up is what is to be admired.
I would only ask every one who reads this small little story about one poor cheap claimer at Calexpo realize what goes into the heart and spirits of a race horse and the obligation as a owner what commitment is to our horses we own.
