A recent study showed that 60% of race horses show signs of ulcers when scoped.
My horse Oatmeister has tailed off this year. I took his blood counts and found them to be low. I put him on ulcer meds and he won yesterday by 4 lenths in 156 2. Sometimes we ignore the obvious. I probably should have figured it out in January.

Has anyone tried a feed supplement called Neigh-lox? They have been feeding it to our standardbred who seems to have trouble with ulcers for about a month now and so far he has not gone off his feed like he occasionally used to.

its funny i got a horse yesterday that seems to have a bad stomach.i trained him today and the further he went the weaker he got and his tail kept going up.what meds did you use?if you dont mind saying. |

We use Omeprazole wich is the main ingrediant in the purple pill people use, Nexium. Your vet should have a generic version that costs about $300 for 15 tubes. Use 1/2 tube for 15 days and then 1/4 tube every day. It should do the job in just a few days. You could use gastrogaurd but it is much more expensive.

We have had real luck with Ranitidine.
Used it as appropriate on several.
A heck of a lot cheaper than anything else we tried.

I use G.U.T. on several of ours. Have had great success with it and it really helps put the weight on and keep it there. It runs about 40.00 and lasts about a month. Very inexpensive and seems to work as we have had a few move up in class after being on it.
