I have a horse I need to get from Salina Ohio...right outside of Lima...to Saratoga (or Vernon or even to New Jersey) I have spoke with Colin Dowd(he is going south) and also just left message with Joe Morris. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never used this, and you'll need to check references, but there is a yahoo group set up to match up shippers and horses:

Description
This list is intended to help people find transportation for their equines and other animals. Transporters and haulers, private parties with room, and people looking to get an animal from point A to point B are welcome to post here. Topics should be confined to transport related topics.

Flo,

Joe Morris is usually the best around and has the most haulers. I think I still have some #'s for him.

I know Merv Chupp around Illinois dabbled in horse transport but I do not have his number.

P.M. me if I can help

I remember as a kid, had to be in the late 60's, riding in the back of a 4 horse van with sis that my father borrowed to ship to Monti.  The brakes were questionable and had to be pumped and it was shall we say thrilling to go that last hill down to the stable gate listening to those air brakes and wondering if we were going to stop in time to make the turn for the gate.

I don't think it is legal anymore for people to ride in the back with the horses anymore?

I went through www.UShip.com and got bids within hours of posting and have my shipper all lined up now. Very easy site to use. The site posts the bids and when you wait a day or so the shippers will drop bids to be competitive, also post references and feedback.

Oh, fyi if you post on UShip, my hauler says it's good to write a bit of info about the horse, like if it's a racing horse, up to date with coggins papers ready, not in qt, whatever. This helps them in planning their trip. I posted a picture of the pony so they could see that although she is a rescue she is in good shape and not in QT. (They will take rescues going into QT but like to get a full load as the trailer has to be disinfected after that run and obviously those horses cannot ship with horses not in QT..)
