Stakes and series will not be affected by the cuts.

Comments made by WEG Senior VP President of Racing Jamie Martin, "There has been a general softening of Standardbred wagering in the market, and the fifth day of racing during the winter at Woodbine clearly indicated there was an oversupply of product for customer demand,"

Does that actually come as a surprise to anyone who follows the place with the show they put on?

Best facilites of any track on the planet and the worse single file racing anywhere.

Might as well convert it to a 1/2 mile track for all the racing they do. Now they are fining guys for giving guys holes. Laughable as they have been doing it forever and they just figured that it might help the racing style if they have to drive on past a hole.

I think Woodbine's racing has been better this meet than in the past though. They race a couple a night now. Beats the one it had been for last 3 years.

Mohawk has better racing anyway.

The bottom line is this:

Too much money there and no need to worry about overracing one if you dont have to, because you can drop money off your card and still race for a minimum of $17,000 if you have a condition horse. One of the biggest problems in racing is the conditions that are put on Woodbines classes. If they can eliminate them somehow then the racing there would improve. The number one reason why the handle has dropped over the years is because of the nonsense that goes on in the condition races. Thats is what WB fails to realize has driven the big bettors away. You watch guys play the class game over and over all the time.

Think of how good the racing would be if they only paid 1st , 2nd and 3rd out at Woodbine.

This may look a little wild but have a look at this if this was the condition sheet. Would make for good racing

2 year olds           not sure what you could do with the babies for classes
3 year old claimers  $15,000 / 30,000 / 60,000 / 150,000 / invitation with no tags
4 year old claimers  $15,000 / 30,000 / 60,000 / 150,000 / invitation with no tags
5 year olds and up   $15,000 / 30,000 / 60,000 / 150,000 / invitation with no tags

You would also have your stakes races with no legs, just a final to get rid of the crap that goes on in the early legs.

You must finish in the top 3 within 3 starts or you have to drop in class

Qualifiying times would be set for each class so you would have to qualify so fast to be able to race in that class to get rid of the guys who qualify in 59 then pace in 52 and have the bettors in the grandstand shaking their heads,

Payouts
70% 1st
20% 2nd
10% 3rd

The Olympics only hand out medals to the top 3

Since when does horse racing have the interest of the bettors in mind?

Never....and that is a major part of the problem we all now face.
