Hello Boys!
I had to make this post since it is hot off the press and I'm wondering if anyone else has heard the same?

Due to Hoosier starting next week and more horsemen are packing up and leaving the Johnstons have decided to drop one card of racing.

This info is directly from a manager who attended a meeting and said I could post this but to leave his name out.

Not that it matters but he wanted to remain anonymous.  The one card drop is said to be temporary.

They decided on Balmoral's Wednesday card because the Meadowlands has dropped Wednesday racing.

Why is this a temporary drop?  Because the racetracks are SUPPOSE to be getting slots in about 3-4 months!

How the deal has been arranged was not disclosed but the deal is said to be 90% done!

Why only 90%?  Because of the duchebag from Arlington Park!

King Dickie is crying over the total number of slots Maywood and Balmoral will be allowed since they are both owned by the Johnstons.

Getting King Dick on board is said to be the only holdup.

Whether this is all true or not, only time will tell.  But this is exactly what I was told and the sources have no reason to lie!

I hope it is true but even if it is will any of the big stables and drivers return?

I hope Chicago gets the slots and racing continues. It's in everyone's interest for racing to flourish, the more tracks go the less reason for politicians to care. It affects all horseman, east coast to west coast. Chicago guys are coming out east, one day maybe some east coasters will go out west. So i wish you all the best.

So many stories and the casinos still never released the millions owed . Why wouldn't they fight to keep tracks from getting slots and that could hold slot play up for years .

Last Wed. handle was over $900,000---on a crappy card.  The Big M dropping Weds. would be a reason to keep it.
Of course, what is done often does not make sense.   As for slots, who knows.  The fact that the State is just about belly-up makes it more likely than ever, but that does not mean it is 100%.  Last years video poker bill was a bust and will bring in very little revenue.  Casinos are already the highest taxed in the nation  and have a hard time competing with those in neighboring states.  I remember those Casi NO buttons they were handing out when all this started.  Too bad they didn't listen to Bill back then.  Oh my, what could have been.

Last nights handle at Maywood was about $650,000.  Balmoral last Wed with no Big M over $900,000.
Conclusion of maanagement---let's drop the $900,000.  We are doomed.

Why do things that make sense? The industry wouldn't be where it is today with out great management over the years.

Isn't AP now a subsidiary of the Churchill Downs Corp ?   What does Dickie now have to do with anything ?

do agree that King Richard has always  had his own best interests at heart....Not sure of the OTBS but I think when they sold they also sold them...
Maybe someone knows the terms of the purchase and whether King Richard has any interest.

i would think king richard is getting up there in age and needs to move on,,,,,,,,,i remember when he got quad cities down,s and illinois started otb,s   before out of state similucasting came legal,,,,he promply closed quad cities after securing his state license for otb,s,,,than he gripes about balmoral running day time $2000 claimer races 65 miles away when arlington was running live, back when there was no horse population problems,,,,,,the problem there was BALMORAL COULD NEVER compete with arlington and never would draw away horse,s from arlington,,,,, this was early 80,s......yet dirt bag dick was at his finest trying to make every other illinois track dissapear,,he wanted it all,,,,,,,,,,,even when sportsman,s defaulted on some loans and hawthorne was running the show,,,,,dickie purchased the bank notes  on spotsmans and tried to enforce there ther bankrupty and demanding payment,,just to screw up other track interests,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he is a scum bag

I also believe RLD and his son sit on the board of directors of CDI.

I would not expect any change in the landscape if RLD was longer around as his son would simply step into fill daddy's shoes.
