Think I mentioned that there were numerous misspellings in the Hoof Beats after the relocation to the central USTA Office at Columbus, previously.
The misspelling is NOT my focus, rather the actual reference to "sealed hopple's".
Anybody know if this was ever implemented (other than Sportsman's Park)?

from the Oct 1951 Hoof Beats:

An interesting hobble device was in use at Sportsman's Park, Chicago, Illinois. The hobbles are sealed with an identification number on the seal. The paddock judge records the hobble numbers. If a change is necessary, he records the change and the hobbles are re-sealed.

Some advantages of the system are that it stops manipulation of the hobbles, forestalls indiscriminate changes, and safeguards against tampering. In one instance, the paddock judges' records showed a groom had picked up the wrong hobbles from the stable. Except for the record system, the horse would have gone to the post in different hobbles than he had been wearing.

You got me. Never heard of Sealed Hopples.
They seldom even measure them anymore.

I am just an old "Hoss" trainer, that has been raced hard and put away wet.
As my Friend from Maine(Ora Stratton) says "There are horse trainers, and then there are real "Hoss" trainers.
