When " Hoosier Park " opens up next month and more horses leave Chicago.

Look at tonight's card at Balmoral. SIX.... 7 horse fields and 1.... EIGHT horse field. And no doubt the fields will become smaller after some lame horses are scratched tonight. And, not only are the fields short just look at the quality of the horses that are racing. Mostly $3,000 purses except for two races that go for 4,000.

WOW!! I never thought harness racing would become this bad in Chicago. What's going to happen when " Hoosier Park " opens?

.."real" racing for good money with a management group that cares about the horsemen and the fans will commence.  The high fuel costs are the only thing keeping some horses here. Ask the LVDS guy to start taking Hoosier ASAP !   trotter  TC

Call someone at Hoosier and ask them why LV doesn't take Hoosier harness, will you? They take Hoosier T-breds so why not harness. Let me know what the excuse is.

jester, trust me when I tell you the place is as clean as a whistle, inside and out, frontside and back.  Foxy Manuever and Priemiereonbroadway are recent decent stock (there program needs to get better) and they don't write any NW/ cheap CL during the w/e, only good overnights.  a typical Saturday would feature every rank from $8,000 cl, up to the top (? $40,000 CL), plus the OPEN or INVITE.  The claimers go for 10 % or more than they do here, so the quality is as good or better than IL.  The drivers are kept in line; no hotdogging, excessive whipping, etc. and the pre-race testing weeds out more cheaters than in IL, where NO pre race testing is conducted.  Geographically, it's located near I-65, I-69, I-70, and I-74, connecting it to Chicago, Cincinnatti, Columbus, St. Louis, Lexington, Louisville, and other racing venues in the midwest, so I don't really follow your point there (you must mean for YOU).  Stay put and enjoy via the world of simulcasting.  Chalk/chalk exactas pay 50 % more there than here.  the average TRI is competitive with here.  The throwout drivers (like an Owen Julius or fill in a name here) never hit the ticket, so the 'capping angles are very good.  My advice is to watch then try it; you might like it.   trotter  TC

swaymi, I thought you were aware - boy was I WRONG !  Try Bellamy, Allums, P'Pool, Brightwell, and some others all will be sending multiple horses to post at the Hop, thus thinning the ranks all the more here @ Form Reversal Downs.  also, show me where I ever said anything negative about Ryan Bellamy and I'll give you $5,000 CASH !  It's a myth, a fantasy, cooked up by proven goofs and liars who ran from the forum like it was on fire when they were proven WRONG !  Jealousy will get you nowhere, nor will multiple troll screennames.   trotter  TC

my dad was born and raised less than 100 yards from that spot.. it is on the corner of front and consaul street in the heart of the hungarian village section of east toledo... exit on front street off of interstate i-280(north off the ohio turnpike) go east about 1/4 mile and you are there.. the hot roast beef mashed and gravy, the stuffed cabbages, and the mother of all hot dogs(actually a hungarian sausage) will leave you stuffed and feeling full for hours .. the chicken paprikash is another favorite of mine and the chili is a spicy work of hunky love...hungry  just writing about it.... one of the special ambiences about tony packos are the autographed buns of major celebrities from bill clinton to burt reynolds and many others that adourn the walls... yum yum.. and if you come in the ..summer go to a toledo mud hens game...the best ball park in all of minor league baseball..last years triple aaa champs... and only 8 dollars a ticket...fireworks every weekend game and a full 10,000 crowd rocks the hen house most every weekend night

Fair enough.  I myself enjoy the #1 thing about Hoosier park - FULL FIELDS , something that's been a problem here since the Big M opened up for winter.  Perhaps you can find an angle on these 7 horse fields, but I can't.  I'll watch and root for a good trainer or if a friend has a horse in, but the gaming dollar stays on the voucher.  I won't play those short fields.  JMO.   trotter  TC

I've been told that the 30 day Hawthorne meet is going to be HUGE. Carey is saying that the purses will be great and new faces are coming to town to make the racing better and more exciting.

When do 2 year old races start around here - JULY ?  Erv doesn't have overnighters ready and waiting, mostly a couple of potential monsters on the shelf and Juvies.  All the frosh/sophs will add to the total horseflesh around here, but I haven't bet a 2 yr. old race since HP Campion (Jim Curran) @ Spk.  how did that race go, I forgot...and to paraphrase Tony Soprano..."Maywood is dead to me..."   trotter  TC

warren is from sports creek area of michigan and always has a 350-400 batting avg at detroit , windsor and indiana...he improves most every horse he claims..they pull first over and just go and go and go...his current avg at windsor is 414 training and 400 driving..at nvlle he is higher than that

Yeah, everyone's a crook who wins races. Do you consider Rucker a crook? How about Anderson? What about Darcy? What about Andrew Robinson? How about Blumenfeld? What about Seldon and Eric Ledford? How about Plowman? What about Oosting? And lot of others who win races. Are they all crooks because they win races?

Certainly not everybody that wins races is a crook.  Somebody has to win every race.  All of those trainers named win many races, how do you explain Darcy's turnaround the last couple of years, Andrew Robinson the last 6 months???  JUICE JUICE JUICE!!!!

Dan,

How can you explain Darcy's turnaround???

Here's what happened.

#1.... Got better horses to train.

#2.... Got better help in the barn.

#3.... GOT DAVE MAGEE TO DRIVE HIS STOCK!!!!!! MADE THE MOST DIFFERENCE.

#4.... Started using a better vet with a good pre-race (nothing wrong with that because everyone pre-races and that's a fact) even Donna Lee pre-races.

#5.... After his bout with health problems the Lord seemed to land in his corner.

I think Ossting may be the best trainer in Chicago. Don't any of you guys remember how many races he won with "Storm Go" after he claimed him. The horse was on the front end every week and was 1-2 every week. I can't recall him doing bad with any horse he ever trained. And as far as consistency goes there is no better trainer then Ossting. No such thing as " form reversal " with his steeds.

The man can flat out train a horse and now he has also shown he is a damn good driver too. When he takes control of the front end it's hard to beat him.

I don't know if Mike has a great pre-race or not but I do know one thing, if he does he's had the same stuff since 1997 and he never ONCE had a positive.

absolutly, davenchop, without doubt......oosting and his side kick andy...my guess is since andy has mostly bottom claimers they dont get in the way of his Rucker/other top trainer drives and maybe when they are on go , he bets them ..why else do it.....or maybe so his hottie can give him a hug in the winners circle.........

TC, I think you've sold me on Hoosier Park. It would  be nice to not fret over Orange Julius clunking into your gimmick.

I do love Chicago's post-7 p.m. post, however. Leaves time for finishing up work or the 17th and 18th holes.
