On facebook some lady posted pictures of a gelding. the poor horse I swear he had the look of a condemned prisoner on his face. He was a horse who was already racing. Whats the ideal age for that?

Probably about as painful as getting struck in the groin by a recalcitrant stud.

They're usually quite numb....but I havent had the pleasure of having one TELL me how much pain they were in. The line about being married was good... beer. I also had the "V" and didnt feel hardly anything? Maybe you had a bad doctor or something.

i gelded my horse because they told me his balls were to big and the pain wasnt allowing him to reach his potential and after the chopping 1st start back wins 3 seconds faster than he had ever been.

Very little when he retires and can be turned out with other horses and live a long happy life. Studs live a lonely life in captivity and many end up going to an unhappy place because they aren't gelded. It's a crime that certain hormones like winstrol or water based testosterone aren't legal in most places anymore. Anyways if you have a good vet doing it they can be back jogging in a couple days.  thumbs up

i couldnt agree more....hormones are/were a very valuable aid to strengthening the horse.

They actually miss no days.  Better off moving to keep the swelling down.

TALK ABOUT ANIMAL ABUSE  !!!
W@W !!

Is it also animal abuse to fix a fracture, remove a bone chip, remove an OCD, or colic surgery?
How about human abuse to transplant a bad heart?

I am just an old "Hoss" trainer, that has been raced hard and put away wet.
As my Friend from Maine(Ora Stratton) says "There are horse trainers, and then there are real "Hoss" trainers.

OGM-But YOU wouldn't KNOW how bad that hurts......

How about getting bit in the tit?  Anyway, I got struck in the groin one time and was laying on the floor gasping for breath thinking I was going to pass out.  Was a teenager at the time, and never told anyone as it was my favorite horse (yearling) and I didn't want him cut either.  Now I know better.
After he eventually almost chopped his foot off climbing the walls in his stall, I agreed to let Pop cut him.
btw John, your colt needs to be gelded before he hurts himself in the stall, too!
