NJ Gov. Christie Vetoes budgets of racing associations

4th time since taking office---he's tightening the grip on spending, budgets, etc. But I think this is reflective of where he is going with respect to the entire industry. Somewhere along the line he is going to have to address this---big picture, lock, stock and barrel.

The right thing to do for this year. Hard to approve any budget increases in times like this.

He came into a very tough situation and is trying to be responsible. One of the biggest issues with the sport is the lagging economy. I know it is really hurting us here in Maryland. So when thinking about the overall health of the sport factor that in. When/if the economy comes back things will be greener all over by default.

He's vetoed other increases also...he's playing the role, in the end we'll see what gets accomplished.

He has certainly done the prudent thing. No doubt. And yes, he's vetoed other budgets et al.

I for one am not criticizing this move. However, the global issue of the equine industry in the state of NJ must be addressed. All of the issues. This was a NJ State budgetary reaction, not a horse racing/equine industry reaction. Regardless, a prudent move.
