tracks ask for slots

Surprising no one, the racetracks went in front of the House Committee on Gaming yesterday and asked for slot machines. Also surprising no one, they were told anything like that was unlikely in an election year. (And I might add, unlikely in any year that's not the first year of a governor's term.)

Not too positive, anyhow.

While existing customers will continue to sit at card tables, looking sideways at flickering TV's, paying surcharge, and breathing 2nd hand smoke, at Arlington Trackside, until they get sick of it and stay home to bet with Winticket.

The only slot machines you'll see is the ones inside those big plush Hotel/Casino's that will line the lakefront in years to come after they shut down the riverboats.

slots here? yeah right i wouldnt be surprised if within a couple years hawthorne loses all their fall meet business to remington park a track that is set to start usuing its slots in a couple weeks. its a nicer track with a very good turf course that runs turf all the way through the end of the meet and they dont all the BS politics that go on round here
