If you have proof of this why haven't you reported it?

The tellers and security guards are allowed to bet. Not the gate crew. If you're ignoring what you see you're an accessory to crime.

First let me say that ALL of the Gate Crew and ALL of the valets are my good friends. I know all of them personally, and have never had a problem with any of these guys.
Horses may be beautiful, but they are very unpredictable 1,000+ pound animals, that don't really like humans (because we are meat eaters and they are born as animals of "prey"). They will bite you, step on you, kick you, and knock you on your butt - for NO reason what-so-ever. However, many are also real sweethearts!
Now down to brass tacks..
The casino money is probably closer to reality than ever before:
1) How long have these men gone without a "fair" raise?
2) Do they recieve insurance benefits that are paid by the employer while working at the track?
3) Are they paid their regular wages when the track cancels?
4) What happens when they are injured on the job other than what "regular" insurance pays.

I do however agree with some on here that it's bad timing to talk strike given our economic climate, but these above questions as well as many others (I'm sure) need to be answered before anyone on here throws stones...

Beau you need to get with the program.  These guys are UNION.  Their last "fair" raise was when they negotiated their last contract.  They DO receive insurance benefits as well as a retirement plan.  As to whether they get paid regular wages when the track cancels, that probably depends on what they have negotiated in their contract.  But since no one else gets paid when they don't work, I would wonder why you think they should.  And yes, when they are injured on the job, that is covered as well.  As I said, they are UNION and have been for sometime.

Don't get me wrong, what they do is certainly tough, but we choose our jobs, and that said, we should probably figure that since they have been doing this for a while, they are good at what they do, which limits injuries as any job does when you know what you are doing.  Accidents happen in every profession.  Nothing in this day and age is a "safe job".  Everyone is struggling these days to survive.  Not a good time to strike.  If they can afford to be without work while they strike, then I'd guess they are making plenty of money.  Most people I know that work at the track, can't afford to be without work.

I can answer some of your questions.
1) I can answer this question but I don't think I should on a public forum.
2) No
3) NO ( they have missed the morning gate money plus the regular gate
money for the past 2 days ) in other words SHORT PAYCHECK.
4) they are out of luck.

Good A.M. Everyone,
I have a few questions for those posters with knowledge of how the gate crew works.

1.  Who are the crew members and head starter employees of the individual track or the state racing board?

2.  Who hires the starter and the assistant starters?

3.  Does the pay and benefits vary per track and/or state?

4.  Are the crew members allowed to have other jobs @ the track like exercise riders in the a.m. or work as barn help to the trainers?

5.  What about the outriders?  Similar situation or totally different?

Just wondering since I see some different faces on the A.P vs. Haw. crews.

Thanks,

Sod

Service Tech, You're a jerk!!!!

If you click the profile and read back through service tech's "last posts of this person" you will see that's pretty much been the M.O. of this person since they joined, on every subject. Time to add that one to the ignore list, I guess.

My goodness we seem to be experiencing a rash of this type of newbie lately, don't we?

Simple solution: publish IP addresses, let the forum members call out the abusers / duplicates.

Won't help.  Too many people know how to change their IP address.  We also have people who live together, work together, or use the same public WIFI, not to mention all the AOLers.

I'd like to reddie stand in front of that gate crew and say that.  It's easy to go off like that on line under an assumed name.
