I used it many years ago. I used it on a horse named Swift Lift and I put a life time mark on him raising his rbc from 8.5 to 11.5 or 12.  I then learned that a friend had dropped a horse using it and I have not used it since.  It can be toxic.  If you are going to use it, use it in the butt. Frankly, I bought a bottle a couple of years ago at tractor supply and I thought my wife was going to make me sleep in the barn. Hippiron is probably as effective and much saafer.

I used ten cc onc a week in the butt. I think I used it for 4-5 weeks  before I got results.  It is about $9.00 a bottle at tractor supply.

Sammy's Star ... what a champ.  Well, you certainly monitored everything you could -- seems like you got a good handle on what is "normal" for him!!  Good for you.  Congratulations.   thumbs up

You can maybe relax a little on that aspect.

I read an interesting article about surplus iron causing inflammation, i will try to post the article if i can find a way. Also i know a trainer i worked for years ago who gave pig iron orally to a two yr old and messed up his liver numbers. The vet thought he was using some type of epogen or something, very nice horse and it almost ruined him. It was a very good vet who told him to stop and said your pre racing yourself, not the horse and extra iron has to be taken out by the liver so you have to be careful. My boss at the time thought iron could get you epogen type numbers, not the brightest you could say. I learned a lot there, what not to do ...

Your right the liver will become toxic with too much iron.  The only way to eliminate that is liver flush and or making sure your not giving an abundance of iron the horse doesn't need.

My favorite horse, with winnings of over $400,000 has been in a slump for a couple of months.
I have had him vetted repeatedly and can't find anything wrong except the usual bumps and bruises.  Three weeks ago, I asked for another blood test.  His red count was 7.6, not up to par for a good race horse.  He eats really well and his coat is good.  I always thought that ulcer horses don't eat and lose condition. My vet said that is not necessarily so.  I put him on omeprozole, let him have a week of and pumped the iron and B12 to him.  Next start he won the open a Northfield from the 7 hole and came back to the Meadows and won in 55 4.

DON'T IGNORE ULCERS! THEY ARE REAL AND IN EPIDEMIC PROPORTIONS.
