A Dozen Pacing Colts Seek Breeders Crown Title
TORONTO – Defending Breeders Crown champion Well Said, Cane Pace winner Vintage Master and Confederation Cup winner If I Can Dream are among the 12 entries for the Breeders Crown for 3-year-old male pacers at Woodbine Racetrack.
A dozen entries forced a single elimination with two byes offered to the top money winners this season, Well Said and Vintage Master. The connections of both took the bye, leaving the remaining 10 pacers to slug it out for eight remaining spots on the starting gate. The winner of the U.S.$25,000 elimination race on Saturday, Oct. 17 can choose a post position for the U.S. $600,000 final.
Jeff Snyder and Susan Grange’s Lothlorien Enterprises Well Said has had very few flaws in a highly polished campaign that included wins in the North America Cup, Meadowlands Pace and Little Brown Jug. His record of 10 wins in 13 starts and $1,952,654 in earnings speaks for itself and trainer Steve Elliot has offered no excuse for Well Said’s three losses – an early season fourth-place finish in the Burlington, a third in the Adios final and most recently a fourth-place finish over the rain-soaked Red Mile surface in the Tattersalls – but assured the USTA’s John Pawlak recently that the horse was in peak health for the Crown finale.
The remarkably consistent Vintage Master has started 19 times this year and missed a check just once – back in May – on his way to $1,285,311 in earnings for owners Brittany Farms and the Brian Monieson Revtrust. Trainer Jimmy Takter gladly took the week rest for the son of 2000 Breeders Crown winner Western Ideal.
The ubiquitous Bulletproof Enterprises is ably represented in this division with four of the 10 starters in the elimination. Millionaire If I Can Dream, Vertical Horizon and Runaway Energy will be sent postward by trainer Tracy Brainard while Ron Burke is responsible for Straight Shooting from post two in the elimination.
Rounding out the elimination field are Keep It Real, Carnivore, Bay Of Sharks, Mr Wiggles, Annieswesterncard and Dial Or No Dial.
The complete field for the elimination in post position order is as follows:
1. Keep It Real, Steve Condren, Joey Shea 2. Straight Shooting, Dave Palone, Ron Burke 3. Carnivore, Jody Jamieson, Jack Darling 4. If I Can Dream, Tim Tetrick, Tracy Brainard 5.
