Eight Fillies To Clash For Crown Crystal

TORONTO – A powerful troika of Tracy Brainard-trained fillies will attempt to sweep the board in the U.S. $710,000 Breeders Crown for Three-Year-Old Filly Pacers at Woodbine on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Only five other fillies entered once Bulletproof Enterprises’ Yellow Diamond and Shacked Up supplemented on Monday and they added another from their eligible ranks, Kabbalah Karen B, a recent Ontario Sire Stake Gold elim winner. All three are daughters of 2004 Breeders Crown champ Western Terror and the trio has earned $1.6 million this year.

Ginger And Fred would be a dominant filly in any other year. Owned by Taylor, Silva, Feldman and Gold, the offspring of Real Artist won a division of the Adioo Volo and a heat of the Jugette enroute to eight wins in 15 starts and $462,319 in earnings. Right behind her on the earnings list is Special Sweetheart, trained by Tom Artandi for the 4 For 3 Stable. Her biggest win this year was in the $350,000 Valley Forge at Chester.

Blogette Hanover, also a division winner of the Adioo Volo, will represent the John Burns Stable. Burns co-owns the filly with Peter Berry and John Fielding. Shanghai Lil, a daughter of three-time Breeders Crown winner Jenna’s Beach Boy, counts divisions of the Bluegrass, Simpson and Tompkins-Geers among her stake wins. Trained by Pete Foley, Shanghai Lil has hit the board in 12 of her 17 starts this year.

West Of LA is winless on the year, but her connections bring some powerful racetrack cred to the event. Her conditioner [and co-owner] is Bob McIntosh, the leading trainer in the Breeders Crown series with 15  trophies and $5,532,533. He has won this event three times, with Beloved Angel [2005] Immortality [1993] and So Fresh [1992].

The compete field, in alphabetical order, with named drivers is below. The post position draw will take place Saturday night, on WEG-TV.
