Breeders Crown draws 111 in Woodbine championships
Tuesday, October 13, 2009 - by Moira Fanning, publicity director, the Hambletonian Society
Cranbury, NJ --- A pair of 3-year-olds, Muscle Hill and Well Said, along with undefeated 2-year-old colt pacer Sportswriter, top the entries to the $5 million Breeders Crown at Woodbine on Saturday, Oct. 24.
There will be elims for all 2-year-old divisions on Friday, Oct. 16, with the exception of the 2-year-old colt pace, which drew 11 and will advance straight to the $600,000 final.
Three sophomore elims on Saturday, Oct. 17, will be needed. The 3-year-old filly trot, which drew 20, will split into two $25,000 eliminations. The first five finishers from each elim will advance to the final. Elimination winners may pick their post position.
One elim will be needed for the 3-year-old colt pace, which drew 12. A single $25,000 elim of ten sophomore colts will race with the first eight finishers advancing to the $600,000 final. Two colts will be offered byes to the final. The highest money-earners in 2009 are offered byes. If their connections decline a bye, one is offered to the next highest earner.
Complete elimination and final fields will be available when byes and elimination draws are finalized.
The Breeders Crown 3-year-old colt trot and pace will be drawn at a press conference at Woodbine on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
