That's what YOU are looking for, right? The ability to stand there and handicap the races without any kind of rowdy person around?

Just go sit in the "Old Lady" section. You can afford it.

maroon

You're all over the map, Moon. Try to pay attention.

Rowdy (in general) at the Kentucky Derby or Preakness, in the infield, drinking beer, yelling, etc. : OK  thumbs up

Jackasses throwing full cans of beer at people, anywhere: NOT OK  thumbs down

Has is sunk in yet?

(Sheesh -- I wasn't prepared to have anyone try to rationalize this type of ***hole behavior.)

Well, everyone involved knows that beer cans are going to be thrown at you if you try this. It's part of the fun!

Go sit in the Old Lady section!!!

Guess I led a sheltered life.  I'm not unhappy about it either.  Never did go for those "bad boys' when I was young.  Worked out good for me.

I guess I am also aging; I watched a couple of those youtube videos and it didn't look like anywhere I wanted to be.   I would rather take my chances that some of those old ladys brought daughters.

They are still selling beer -- in plastic cups. You can still drink a few beers. You can no longer bring in mass quantities, a la The Coneheads. That's all. Hopefully, many fewer people will be overserved.

What Moon is advocating is lost on me. The friends that I have left from the 60's and 70's, the one's that are still alive -- we all learned about the price of that sort of "anything goes" -type behavior, and changed our ways. (In other words, we grew up.)

You learned, on your own.

But, this is a kinder gentler America now, where everyone feels entitled to save everyone else from themselves.

Seriously, because you wised up, nobody else has the chance to wise up themselves? You're the savior of the world?

Spain should stop those tomato fights. Somebody might get hurt!

Horse racing is bad. Horses are being killed!

Moon -- stop already, unless you've lost your mind.

There isn't a rational argument on the planet for advocating alcohol abuse. We simply know better now than we did years ago. It's not me "wising up", it's society wising up. It's the species wising up. Ever hear of evolution? Part of human evolution is not doing the stupid shit that people used to do in the past.

Describing the nonsense that was happening at Pimlico as some God-given rite of passage -- and then bemoaning the termination of it as some sort of dark indication that all of our personal freedoms are about to be taken away -- is childish and reactionary. Unless you are just tweaking me for fun, seriously, try taking an adult perspective on this issue, just for a few minutes.

Sort of like how many people these days consider whipping horses and animal racing in general "cruelty"?

We've all wised up as we gotten older and we don't do that anymore.

But NOBODY should do that anymore?

You're acting like getting drunk and running on top of port-a-potties is just horrible and we should ban it completely. No drinking during college. No naked mile run. No "Boat Night" at Oxford.

Get back to your Old Lady seats!!

Evolution??

/You sound like a vegetarian or one of those PETA people.

It's pretty much the same score you've earned so far for your rationalizations, though I was too polite to say so up until now.  Grin

Well, then, I haven't lost it, because I didn't call you anything. I asked you a question.

Here's a better question:

Are you FOR or AGAINST people being able to throw full cans of beer at each other?

There are only two answers here: FOR or AGAINST.

I get "zero" for saying that taking away the ability for Preakness attendees to throw full cans of beer at each other is a good thing?

Fine. Now where I stand on the Anarchist's Scale.

No, you get zero for rationalization, like I said: The weak answer on kegs that had nothing to do with "throwing", trying to morph your original statement about disgusting drunk 20-somethings that are a bad image for racing into something else, and in general your efforts on to rationalize your stance on telling other people what to do on this particular issue while trying to paint all the other examples of doing the same thing as "totally different" or "pathetic". Pathetic? The attitude toward horses and cruelty is also "an evolution" of human thinking. So, some evolution in thinking about what other people shouldn't do is good, but not other evolution, and the ultimate judge on that is ... who?

It boils down to, "If I agree with it, it's okay and obviously right, but if I don't agree with it, that's different, and other people should not tell ME what to do". It's not an unusual hypocrisy  - you see it every day in the dumb political thread. Just surprises me, coming from you, is all. You learn something every day on this forum.

You've made your views clear.

On Pimlico's part, it's probably smart. That infield was a huge lawsuit waiting to happen. People take no responsibility for their own actions these days. And God knows Magna is so hard up they need those extra beer sales.
