Balmoral Handle?

Balmoral listed the evening handle at just over 1.4 mill but did not list the afternoon handle??

Dear Big Fan:

I look at the exacta pools and this gives me an indication what thew WPS pools are.

Here my guess.   For Saturday afternoon they are doing about $ 650,000 to 700,000

This experiment is failing miserably.

You can see what races they are filling on Saturday afternoon and they are terrible.

Doing about $2M for a day is nice, but, these Afternoon pools are ridiculous.

If they are going to run seven cards a week, then they may as well just race on Monday again -- because they will clearly crush this Saturday afternoon handle.

I remember when Hawthorne used to have afternoon cards (late 80's early 90"s) during January.
I think that the handle was very good.
I cannot find any figures to back me up, though.
I used to leave work and go bet races. I WILL NOT do that anymore. The racing is not goos enough these days

You are correct, the Saturday afternoon cards were awesome, with horses coming from all over the midwest.  The handle was great because Hawthorne was the only track you could bet on. Balmoral can't compete with Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Aqueduct and Santa Anita.  No way.  Balmoral should move the Saturday afternoon card to Monday nights.  Or race on Tuesday afternoons, since there isn't much racing across the country on Tuesdays.
