Good job last night with R. Bob Philips' My Sweet Finance @ 35/1.  He tallied two third-place finishes on the card when Hast B Skipalong hit the board later.  Keep up the good starts Jr. !  TC

thanks scrounge. hopefully i can get one home tonight. i checked the usta for getting my A license and its only 5 wins now. hopefully it'll come soon. i just picked up a new stable to drive for so im doin ok right now. i bought L Crotcho last night. lol. you cant go wrong for $1500. he'll be the first horse you'll see under my name as trainer. lets hope i get the $1500 back. lol.

             ROD ,      let an old horseplayer give you a little advice . dont fall in to the gun your horse category like a lot of young drivers have done in the past . they think the if you make the lead your in the race . learn how to drive a horse in the hole and save the pace he has till the stretch. using patience will make you a better driver quickly . learn to try to follow a live horse . read the program and try to figure who" s leaving and who's ducking . tim tetrick started out the right way and has had success because he used patience . too many young drivers want to be on the lead . wrong place to be when your just getting started . john roberts is a good example of having limited success because his style is to just make the lead . the lead is for more experienced drivers . which you will be someday . save your horse and down the road it will help you to be an excellent driver . you will learn to gauge your horses true ability and his best style for racing . just the opinion of an old horseplayer . good luck with your career . chicago needs some good young drivers to bet on .                             RTP

how about the great horses i drove last night. hot number should've went right on by that field but when you're locked on the rail (which was my fault) to a 30 sec 3rd quarter, its hard to pass anybody when they come home in 28 and u come home in 27.4. there is only 1 way to make money here anymore and i've said it before and will say it again. get within 5 lengths of the lead turning for home or you might as well sit on the horse.

190 isnt too great IMO. i need to get some more good starts in the money to bring it back up. my goal as a driver is to get the best out of each horse that i drive, and to get a decent check or win if possible.hopefully i can get a good trip and beat johnson county tomorrow night. lol.

    i got a question for nance, trainers, or anybody that knows about licensing. i took the driver/trainer test while i was 17 earlier this year and passed. i called the usta yesterday to have them issue my trainers license but for some reason they told me i have to retake the test and get all of my signatures again. is this b.s. or what? i just bought a horse and need to put it in my name and i have owners trying to give me horses but have to wait now. what should i do?

Call the USTA and ask them to explain the reason why you must take it again.  Sometimes rules change or were overlooked initially.

The 190 may be a little soft, but you're hitting the board at nearly 50 percent.  Given that you've been driving mid-range choices (if not longballs) in your starts...that's nothing to be ashamed of.

Go back and check on that other forum. I recall answering the question for you there. If not, you can just go to the USTA website, and on the lefthand side of the home page, near the botom, is a  link for the USTA rulebook. You can find the information there.

You need a certain amount of drives approved by the stewards. It's all up to them. You could go a long time before you get your A or you could get it in no time at all.

Correct, but he still needs a wins within a specified amount of time in order for the stewards to even consider giving him an "A". Just getting drives approved by the stewards is OK to graduate from a "Q" to a "P", but not from "P" to "A".

Totally agree with your points, but I think this horse is a little bit of a runaway.  Don't want to say too much since I didn't see the race, but Tony had a hard time (if he even did) rating this horse...

    i'll be honest I dont know the horse ! but if he's a runaway ? its very rare that even a runaway cant be controlled . does the horse go 53 and change every week ?  maybe I'm a little hard on drivers but thats me and I really dont think he tried too hard to take a hold . but I still should keep my opinion to myself , who am I to give advice about driving ! I never drove a horse ! I only made a living betting on what they should do .                RTP

You're right about the pure runaways, Phil.  Not sure how to put it, he just looks hard to control.

I normally don't bet the 4 claimers, so I really don't have too good of an idea though -- and it does seem like Jr has checked him up a little lately.

Rod sat in with Taelon Terror last start and was absolutely life and death strangling to avoid runnig over the steed in front of him aroun the far turn.

On the other hand Rod may be in way over his head at the moment.Nearly all the guys he's up against were much older and much more experienced than Rod is now before they started winning.

you're absolutely right you dont know the horse. he's probably the moodiest horse on the racetrack. i had planned on sitting behind davey the rest of the way until i grabbed up on him and he started throwing in steps. he is a runaway too. last week we had earplugs, minibit, the nine yards on the horse to duck from the 10 hole. he made a break when i took a big hold of him around the last turn. at raceway park, he ran out of the gate because he didnt want to go around the turn. if you knew anything about racing or this horse then you would know him. he is a very fast horse but a very moody one. he is banned from hazel, windsor and possibily raceway for causing accidents. davey might have even heard me yelling at the horse to stay flat behind him. i didnt have a problem at all going to the half in 56 or 55 if i could but i couldnt. he was just plan stupid last night. i was also told to go to the front and dont let anybody go. (which i did) and if i did have to let someone go then i needed to retake (which i didnt want to do) so learn the game laddie.!!!!!

im thinking about taking a vacation because for some reason nothing is sick that i drive and most of them get good trips and going nowhere. i let marsh in front of me for strategy. i thought he would pull and give me some cover down the backside so when i tried to flush him out, he stayed in so i stayed in like r.bob told me to. in the last 2 weeks i've picked up drives from 4 different trainers and have picked up 4 owners to train for. those of you who doubt me can tell me what you think to my face instead of *** it up on this forum.
P.S. RTP, you're pretty much hated by everybody on the track for talkin the shit that you do on here. its a good thing many people dont know who you are b/c you'd be in for quite a few asswhoopings.

Calm down Jr., no vacation is necessary.  You 're feeling your way around the big leagues right now and the sledding can be tough.  This game takes mental and pyhsical toughness.  Last night why couldn't anyone go after the leader after he snapped off a :54 half in the Hasty B race ?  look at what everyone else was doing there.  Watch replays.  When was the last time in the history of this sport an 18 year old came in on a "P" and dominated ?  I can't think of one.  soon you'll get your first win and get mobbed by your peers.  Patience is a virtue.  All good things come to those who wait.  If those fail, remember that the game is wide open starting tonight - NO TONY.  Ne cordial to all the owners and trainers and see what develops.  Hang in there.  TC

In the good old days you would have been able to get your experience at places like Quad Cities and Fairmount. It's a tall order to expect to drive in Chicago from the get-go and be successful.
Despite what TC and a lot of other have to say about the Chicago driving colony, they know it is the best in North America outside of the Meadowlands and Woodbine/Mohawk.

Perhaps you should consider at one of the lesser tracks in Michigan or Ohio until you've got your legs under you and are confident of your abilities.

I've heard all those excuses from drivers before . if they told you to not let anybody go , you had to follow instructions . so be it ! but as far as your inbred comment on asswhoopings . I'm easy to find . Strong response.  You'll be alright man -- it's tough driving 5th/6th/7th choices all the time -- but you've been putting them close.  People will take notice.

Have you given any thought to trying a smaller circuit?  I know this is home, but even with Tony leaving, it's still darn tough.

im thinking about shipping some to ohio on the weekends or even trying my luck in michigan or southern canada. i may go to hoosier park when they open up next spring also. i know my dad is taking his stock down there and i'll stay here if the conditions are good and/or im getting enough drives.

            I apologize for upsetting you . sometimes constructive critism goes a long way . I really hope you do well . like I said before the fans need new blood . again under the circumstances you explained you had to do what the trainer wanted and I'm sorry I jumped to the wrong conclusion's  .

        Rod Jr. may be good in the future. But the future is not now. He is still green and was given a license waaaay to soon. He needs to go back to qualifiers and learn not to pull out of 2 or 3 holes on the likes of Mike Oosting or Dave Magee.  When this happens the betting public gets screwed and a young talent that is rushed into something can be ruined for life.
